Maria Jo | 409 comments I just picked up my copy from my mom, who got it from their library for me. My goodness, it's a chonk of a book! I don't usually read books this long. I'm sure I can't keep up with you all much faster readers, but I'm hoping I can finish it this round to get the points!

Carrie (carriele1216) | 1526 comments So I’m 100 pages in - so basically haven’t made a dent 🤪

I never watched the show on tv. Has anyone else? I enjoy almost everything King writes and am enjoying this book. I read it in the past but never added it to Goodreads so I’m not sure when.

Jenny | 8680 comments Maria, believe it or not, it is a pretty quick read. The story moves along, and the characters are compelling.

I want to say that I watched the first episode of the series, but chose not to watch any more. Or, I just saw the previews. Honestly it was a while ago, so I am not sure, or it really wasn't memorable,

I started this one today as well. I have never lived in a small town like this one, but I think King has, and he seems to get the vibe pretty well.

I've started too!

Carrie, I watched the mini series. I love Mr. King's books and the show was too different from the book for me to really like. I kept saying...that isn't what happened! Lol

Jenny | 8680 comments I finished my reread. Every time I read this I like it better.

I will wait to comment until some of you have caught up a bit though. I don't want to be all spoiler-y.

Well that was fast!

I think I watched the first episode and just left it at that.

I say that a lot about most book to screen adaptations from King's work (Misery was particularly bad for me!)

Jenny | 8680 comments The short stories tend to work better for screen adaptations. Shawshank and The Body and The Green Mile were the best, I think.
I haven't seen the newest version of Pet Sematary though. I am curious if they did that one well.
Actually, Gerald's Game was a pretty good movie as well.

Carrie (carriele1216) | 1526 comments I haven't watched the newest Pet Sematary movie either. I read the book a LONG (40 years?) time ago but I still vividly remember the black trash bag when Church is buried!

I have not watched Gerald's Game either. It's on my list as one of my favorite King books though.

I agree the short stories you mentioned were all really good.

I know The Shining takes a fair amount of heat from King because he felt Kubrick did a poor job but I love that movie!

Jenny | 8680 comments The Shining is my favorite King book, and I love the movie. Other than the names of the characters, and the setting, though, there is almost nothing in common between them.

I can't really pick my favorite King book!

Maria Jo | 409 comments I’ve never read any Stephen King before, so I’m excited to dive into this one.

Maria Jo | 409 comments I started reading, and I wasn't expecting such a graphic description of the woodchuck being sliced in half! I should have known better, because it is Stephen King, but good grief! And, we're having mice being removed from our attic this week, so the whole thing is just gross to think about.

How have you gotten through life so far without reading a Stephen King book? Wow! Welcome to the world of King!
Hopefully this one makes you a fan. His character work and immersive storytelling is just amazing, I think.

Also, the mice being removed from your attic, will be gently handled, and sent to a lovely mouse farm upstate.
