Shark Week discussion

This is the place for comments about the second half of Generations (including spoilers).

Closing thoughts on this year's Shark Week are also welcome.

It was ok. The plot was a bit allover the place. I enjoyed the last two hours the most. Quite the body count, as usual.

Lackluster audiobook narration.

I finally finished. "Finally" not because I didn't like it but because reading time is scarce at the moment. Despite the plot indeed being a lot in this one, I really enjoyed it. Like I said in my review: sure, it's formula, but if you space the volumes out, it's always fun - especially when people get eaten. ;P

And that is my only criticism: not enough blood. Or, rather, not the "right" people dying too. *LOL*
And maybe the ending ...

I think you two liked it more than I did. I thought it was a stinker.

The scene with Jackie about to be tossed overboard by the mutinous crew but then she becomes "their queen"? When was this supposed to be--1650?

OK, I concede the cancer story with Terry actually became more relevant to the plot than the earlier doctor scenes. But it still seemed pretty forced.

That being said, I think Alten has done the best he could to set this series up for a future series/Meg world if that makes sense. If he retires, a ghost writer could take over with a constant string of adventures with the deep sea, David, Monty, et al.

The formula is pretty well set--evil billionaire fails to capture a dangerous, prehistoric giant fish, and the Taylor family (plus girlfriends & sidekicks) have to clean up the mess, while some innocents and some bad guys get eaten along the way.

"Professional" is probably not the word that most people would associate with Alten's writing, but compared to some of the cheap novellas we've read about megalodons by copycats, Alten still seems like the real novelist and their stuff reads more like fan fiction.

So, I think this was bad, but there's a lot worse garbage out there. For a summer shark read, this was passable.

I do get where you're coming from. Maybe I have simply adjusted my expectations? *lol*

As for the Jackie scene, it's unfortunately not so uncommon in certain parts of the world. Yes, to this day. *sighs* If it would have played out exactly like that, is doubtful, but it wasn't too outlandish for me.

Personally, I think we'll get another one out of Alten where a cure for cancer will be hunted down, probably with the help of the Taylors in order to help their mom/wife.
