If this book doesn't scream screenplay, I don't know what does. It's only flaw is that it has to end. And as all lovers of this book know, it is truly timeless!
Brita Your comments about the book totally sum up the reasons why Ted and I decided to seek permission to adapt a screenplay. Now that the screenplay is finished (a few weeks ago) we plan to start a blog about the process and pull together the wider audience of fans of this great book. We'll keep you posted - thanks again, Mark
Brita emailed this follow up: Mark ...thank your for your email. I can't believe I just happened to pull the book out and read it, of course, as we all do and then why I did the search on google I'll never know. I don't know what I expected to come up with, but talk about hitting paydirt. I was almost expecting (and glad I didn't see) Ms. Carleton's obituary. I wasn't exactly sure how old she would be by this time, but I knew she was getting along. I'm so glad she got to read your work and knows how many devotees she has, and how many lives she touched. Obviously the google search was meant to find you and Ted, and Ms. Carleton, and see a dream become a reality.
Out of her Book, Devoted Readers and Your Screenplay, these three
Fame will come to thee.
Not only is "Mystery of the Witches' Bridge" my number one favorite book of all time, I also enjoyed three personal visits with the author. On the first, I described wanting to make a movie of the book and Mrs. Carleton enthusiastically proclaimed she believed I would succeed in this. I will eagerly follow every step of the process of this wonderful book making it to the big screen!

Ms. Carleton (now 92) and I correspond semi-regularly, and I thought fans of MOTWB would like to know that with Ms. Carleton's blessing, we have begun work on a screenplay. Although Ms. Carleton is alive and wellm, we are keenly aware of the passage of time. Wish us luck. Feel free to reach me with any comments at militarybooks at sbcglobal dot net.
