Jane | 2306 comments I am looking at the 2027 calendar and would like to propose Wednesday, May 5, through Sunday, May 9, as our convention dates. We talked about arriving in Los Angeles on May 5th in time for dinner and then being tourists on May 6 and 7. On May 8th, we would all go to San Clemente to see our friend, Ruth, and stay in a hotel there.

If you are planning to attend, what do you think of these dates? If some of you agree, I will start working on hotels and activities.

Lynn | 2579 comments I plan to attend, and right now those dates look good. I'll pencil it in.

Barbara | 8419 comments I plan to attend too and don’t know of any conflicts on those dates. Thank you for doing this, Jane!

Jane | 2306 comments I will start looking at hotels then. Ruth can help us think of activities in L.A. I also have a number of friends who live in that area, and they can suggest things. I know we all want to visit the main library.

Ann D | 4033 comments I just saw a story on CBS Sunday Morning about the opening of the The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in LA. George Lucas and wife Mellody Hobson are the founders. I would definitely be interested in visiting that while we are in LA for the convention.

We will fly out and are not comfortable driving in LA. Is it easy to use UBER or LYFT?

I don't know, but maybe Ruth does. I was planning on ride sharing with others.

Jane | 2306 comments I just checked with the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles. We can't get a block of rooms unless we have 15 rooms.

The price for a deluxe double for three nights is $1226, including taxes and fees. The price for a single is $1118 for three nights. Both include breakfast. The cancellation policy is good in that you can cancel up to the day before your arrival.

What do you think? Should I look elsewhere? I can ask my friends who live in the area to give suggestions.

That's pretty pricey, although the inclusion of breakfast helps some. I would definitely be looking for someone to share with. I'd like to see if you can find some other alternatives.

I don't think we're likely to get 15 rooms with our group at this point. Last spring we ended up with 9 or 10 (I can't recall where it ended up after some cancellations.)

I will check out some other hotels next week.
