The buddy read/study for Genesis is beginning tomorrow, so here is what I thought we could do. Of course, before we start reading we need to pray for wisdom and guidance. After we read over the three chapters, we should share what stuck out to us and we can have a general discussion.
Also, if anyone sees this and wants to join in when we are in the middle of the book, feel free. It’s always better with more people 😁

So I have only finished the first chapter of Genesis so far, but I still want to talk about it. So when everyone else finishes chapter one, I want to talk about the Gap Theory. (Other stuff too, but that’s the main thing I was thinking about). And after we discuss chapter everything in chapter one then we can move on to the others, of course.
Sorry everybody I didn’t end up having time last night but I can now. Does everyone know what the gap theory is (between verses 2 and 3)?
Also I only ended up reading the first chapter but I will catch up today. What chapter are we going to today?
Anyway…
I know a little of people believe that there was a big gap of time between those verses (some believe millions of years) but I noticed that it never says when God created time. In verse 5 is the first mention of any measurement of time (the first day), so I believe that was when He created time, disproving millions of years (there can’t be a gap of time if there was no time). What is everyone’s thoughts on this?

Can we slow down a bit until I catch up? I’ve been busy the past few days, and I’ve really been trying to get into the details of Genesis so I’ve only had time for one chapter a day. So can we just do one chapter a day for a bit? Or everyone else can keep reading and I can just catch up in a few days, but I won’t be able to discuss it. (I could probably finish chapter five or six tomorrow). Sorry for the inconvenience
You are totally fine! We can go at whatever pace we need to, I have also been very busy the past few days so I am only on chapter 4 💕💕
Ahh I totally wanna join studying it with you guys! Ill try my best to catch up but I can't promise it'll be right away 😭. I'll probably do like two chapters today but I really wanna study it and not just skim
Reading Genesis 1 made me rethink the 6,000 year old Earth theory. In verse 28, God says to 'replenish' the earth. That choice of wording makes me believe the Earth itself is much older and was previously occupied maybe by angels before humans were created, even if humanity's timeline is still 6,000 years. Just a personal takeaway, take it with a grain of salt!
Yes I’ve heard about that but I still need to study further on that matter before I can say what my opinion is.
I do think I agree tho, I just want to look into it further before I completely trust it. It does make sense.
Ok we have not been talking about Genesis at all since I’ve been on a different pace, but now that everyone has read at least chapter one we should start talking about what we’ve noticed. And I still have to follow up on Kendall’s comment, but I’m gonna try to figure it out right now.
Ok I have had a talk with my dad and we discussed the Gap theory and I completely believe that angels lived before us. Also I made a mistake, the gap theory (which I now know is fact) is between verses 1 and 2, not 2 and 3. In verse two it says “and the earth was without form and void”, and I believe that would not have happened if God created it, so it makes sense that beings before us would have lived. My dad also told me he believes Adam would have had a water system instead of blood because he ate a grape from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. And he says he believes the fruit would be a grape because scientists have found their juice is almost the same as human blood. There’s more to it but I don’t really want to type it all out in one comment rn but I will later
So I think the gap theory is cool and all but I don’t really know what to think about it… so I don’t really have an opinion on it. I personally found how God created the earth in so much detail more fascinating. I have also never heard the theory of Adam having a water system, that in my mind is a little odd but an interesting opinion
Yeah when I first heard that it sounded strange to me too, but it made sense to me. I think it’s cool to think about all of this but you are right: we should also be talking about the main parts. Today we are reading chapter 8, right?
That’s okay, I know it’s hard to get motivated or sometimes we’re just super busy. Just make sure to read one chapter a day from now on
