Shelby (stang_lee) | 2118 comments NBRC Book of the Months
You have 1 month from start date to finish reading the book to count towards BOM. You must participate in the conversation with at least 3 responses for participation points. If you are volunteering to write DQ's for a BOM that does give us additional points, just add your name to the relevant BOM's thread as a DQ volunteer from Team Burj Khalifa. It's typically only one volunteer from any given team that will get to claim one of those spaces.

Vicky (librovert) | 3335 comments Hello Team!

Welcome to Wheel-a-thon XI!

I'm Vicky and along with our co-captains Shelby and KayLynn we will be your captains for this challenge! We've all captained together before so it should be a very smooth challenge.

I'll have some more official captain hat info as we get closer to the challenge, but for now come say hi, introduce yourself and let us know what books you're trying to finish up before the challenge starts. :)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 2178 comments Hello team!! Happy to be here!

My name is Kaley and I live in Indiana in the US with my husband and our dog and cat.

Before this challenge starts I’m trying to finish up Tress of the Emerald Sea. It’s my first Sanderson book — we are reading it for book club for my work and it also fits perfectly for an individual challenge I’m doing, so win-win.

message 13: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 2043 comments Yay, so happy to see the team thread open! Hubby and I are headed to my MIL for the weekend, not much chance to be on GR while there, so I was stressed that I would miss the team check-in window. Phew!

Anyway, I'm Camilla (59) from Finland. Happy to see some familiar faces as well as new ones! I also sent a friend request to everybody in our team, but feel free to ignore it if you wish. I live in southwestern Finland with hubby, we have two adult daughters who have flown the nest. I work as a psychologist in an outpatient psychiatric clinic for adolescents. I read mostly horror, thrillers, scifi, fantasy, dystopia and non-fiction. Currenly have several books I'm trying to finish before the challenge starts. E.g. Keep Clear: my adventures with Asperger’s and Becoming Frozen: Memoir of a First Year in Alaska. Looking forward to playing with you!

Sam A. | 156 comments Hi everyone, I'm Samia and I'm from Sudan!
First time trying this challenge and I'm so excited, I'm planning to finish up some short books from my tbr Rosarita,At Night All Blood is Black and Writers & Lovers.

message 15: by Sam (new)

Sam A. | 156 comments Is it possible to increase the amount of books I can read?

message 16: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 4005 comments Hi team!! I’m Rebecca from NY and I can’t wait to get started. I love how this fuels my competitive tendencies and gets me to work on my TBR. I have two small kids and am lucky enough to be able to listen to audiobooks on my long commute and multitasking at work hehe.

Right now I’m finishing up The Calamity Club and I’m OBSESSED. It is so freaking good.

message 17: by Alaina (new)

Alaina (ameserole) | 451 comments Hello hello! I'm Alaina from VA and this is my first wheels challenge, I think? I've done the towers challenge a few times. I love reading any kind of book - audio, ebook, physical, ARC. Audiobooks make my work day go by much faster which is a huge plus in my eyes.

I'm also currently reading the calamity club!! I started it yesterday and enjoying it a lot so far.

message 18: by Audrey Jane (new)

Audrey Jane | 1886 comments Hello team, checking in. I'm Audrey from Belgium but living and working in France (I work for one of the many castles in the Loire Valley).
My favourite genres are historical fiction, gothic fiction, and mysteries, however I occassionally read fantasy and romance :-)

I will check in later with my shelf, I just came back from work and I'm really tired. Looking forward to play with you all !

Saar The Book owl | 844 comments @Audrey Jane: I'm not assigned to a team yet, but on the waiting list. I just wanted to say: Finally someone from Belgium! I think I've got 2 or 3 friends on GR from my country, so very happy to read this! I'm from Bruges, btw.

Vicky (librovert) | 3335 comments Sam wrote: "Is it possible to increase the amount of books I can read?"

Unfortunately not. The mods create the teams so that we all have a pretty even number of expected books. We do, however, have an extra 10 books per round over our sign-up numbers that can be read amongst all of us, so we do have a little bit of overflow room.

message 21: by KayLynn (new)

KayLynn Zollinger (kaylynnskorner) | 427 comments Hi Team! I'm KayLynn and will be one of your co-captains for this adventure. I'm from Salt Lake City, Utah, USA (for those unfamiliar with the US, it's about 6 hours drive to Las Vegas and 10 hours to Disneyland). Random Salt Lake fact: The rebels of the city like to say we are SL,UTs. (Salt Lake, UT) Makes me laugh every time, because in my heart of hearts I am a fourteen year old boy. I am a stay at home mom to a 12 year old with autism and adhd, so life can be stressful - but I also have a lot of time to listen to audiobooks (or have Alexa read me my ebooks). This is my second time doing Wheels and my second time as a co-captain. Happy to be here.
I will read pretty much anything. I have a firm belief that you have to read awful books to fully appreciate the incredible books, so it's extremely rare for me to DNF a book. I WILL read anything, but tend to gravitate towards fantasy, romance and thrillers. I do also read non-fiction a lot, so if you have any good memoirs or nature non-fic, please tell me!
Happy Reading, everyone!

KayLynn Zollinger (kaylynnskorner) | 427 comments Can I just say I LOVE how worldwide our crew is! We have people have some really cool places!

message 24: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 2118 comments Hey all! So excited to dive into a round of Wheel with you guys! My name's Shelby and I'm the last of your captain team to check in. I live in LA and work in film, thus between the randomness in projects and well the bar that keeps me afloat in between projects, my schedule is pretty all over the place. While the timing of when during the day might not be consistent, I can usually check in at least once a day.

I'm an avid reader and I'm not picky. I like a wide variety of things in my reading, but my go to's are usually MM Romance, Paranormal, Fantasy, or Urban Fantasy. :)

I too have been knocking out a few of those shorter books leading up to the start here and doing the anxious thumb twiddle as I can't wait to get started.

message 25: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 2118 comments Also everyone - you'll see I have our BOM's linked up above in Post 6. Nominations for October's BOM's are still open if you want to go nominate a book in either or both categories. :D

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 4005 comments I can never remember what I say I'm going to name my shelf.. so here it is

message 27: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (stang_lee) | 2118 comments So since we only get bonus points once for reading any of the Riyria books, has anyone read any previously? Are you planning on reading any for the challenge? It's a new series for me, and I plan to start it.

Team Points for Riyria Books

Bonus points are available for books read set in the world of Elan. 20 points are awarded once per book per team. These can be earned by any player in any round and are on top of any page points or mini challenge points the book might earn.

message 28: by Alaina (new)

Alaina (ameserole) | 451 comments I'm down to read it, I've only ever read book 1 and that was in 2018.

message 29: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 2178 comments I just decided I was going to be a complete lunatic and reread all of the Sarah J. Maas series books before her next book comes out, so I'm not sure how much time I'll have to start a new series. Between those, some of my anticipated upcoming releases, and trying to fit in some of the BOMs I'm going to be completely swamped. (I really hope we get good words because my new fear is that all our words will have letters those can't fit LOL)

message 30: by Sam (new)

Sam A. | 156 comments First time hearing of this series but I don't mind reading one of the books for points!

message 31: by KayLynn (new)

KayLynn Zollinger (kaylynnskorner) | 427 comments I'm struggling to find copies (see: free) for any of the upcoming BOMs. However, my husband has apparently read some of Riyria and we own 5 of the 6 Riyria Chronicles and I think a couple of the Riyria Revelations series, so I can maybe read some of those instead of the BOMs this time round.
