About this Challenge ◈ Starts on 31 August and runs for EIGHT weeks (ending 26 October)
◈ The start and finish time for each round is 9.00 pm UTC time
◈ There are four rounds, with each round lasting two weeks
◈ The team with the highest score at the end of the challenge wins!
◈ At the start of each round, the mods will spin the wheel and assign every team a word.
◈ Your team's goal is to read books that spell the assigned word, earning points for each letter based on the length of the book (see Point System below).
◈ Once your team has completed the word, you can continue scoring by reading and spelling the same word as many times as you like.
◈ Only one incomplete spelling is allowed at the end of each round.
◈ Only books started after the challenge begins are eligible.
◈ Books must be at least 100 pages long.
Rules
◈ Audiobooks are welcome. Page counts should use the default Goodreads edition. If the default edition is a Large Print version, use the next most popular print or ebook edition instead. If no print or ebook edition exists, the audiobook must be longer than three hours and will be treated as a 100-page book regardless of its actual length.
◈ Books with the Goodreads genres Children's, Kids, Poetry, Play, Graphic Novel, Illustrated, Photography or Art (or books with *Illustrated* in the title or an *Illustrator* listed as a contributor) must contain at least 30,000 verified words. Estimated word-count websites cannot be used. AR BookFinder (.com, .co.uk or .com.au) is a good source for verification. If you're unsure, ask your captain. As a general guide, the audiobook should be over three hours long.
◈ Manga, cookbooks, dictionaries and encyclopedias are not permitted no matter the word count or audio length.
◈ Books in any language are eligible, provided they meet the challenge requirements.
◈ Re-reads are permitted if it has been at least six months since you last read the book. This includes listening to the audiobook of a book you've previously read.
◈ Only books finished during the current round may be used. Books cannot be banked from previous rounds.
Point System
◈ Books under 100 pages = 0 points
◈ Books between 100 and 1000 pages = 0.1 points per page
◈ Books over 1000 pages = 100 points
(Standard mathematical rounding applies.)
Team Points for Riyria Books
Bonus points are available for books read set in the world of Elan. 20 points are awarded once per book per team. These can be earned by any player in any round and are on top of any page points or mini challenge points the book might earn.
How to "Spell It Out"
Letters may come from the first letter of:
◈ Book title or series title*
◈ Author's first or last name
◈ Fiction only: a significant character's first name, surname or nickname
◈ Audiobook narrator's first or last name
◈ Translator's first or last name (if reading a translated edition)
*If the title begins with "A", "An" or "The", you may ignore the article if you wish.
Characters must play a significant role in the story.
Please note: Non-fiction books do not have eligible characters.
Books of the Months Writing one day's discussion questions = 40 points
Participating in a current BOM discussion (minimum 3 discussion sets) = 20 points
The first BOM during this challenge is the BOM starting 2 September 2026.
Note: We will initially accept one team member per team per book to write discussion questions. If, three days before the BOM begins, there are still unfilled discussion days, additional volunteers from the same team may be accepted. If there are more volunteers than available days, places will be allocated randomly.
You can also use participation points earned from any previous BOM (from January 2022 onwards) to gain extra entries in the randomiser at a rate of 3 participation points = 1 additional entry, with a maximum of 6 entries per team per BOM.
September BOMS:
The Frozen River Start: Sept 2nd End: Oct 2nd
Blood Over Bright Haven Start: Sept 16 End: Oct 16
Backrooms September
Queens of the Jungle Starts: Sept 10 Ends: Oct 10
October BOMS:

Hey everyone! Welcome to Wheel-a-thon XI! I'm Shannon, your captain! I've captained and co captained a lot of challenges in the past! To be honest, I've lost count of the number 🤣
I'm from Pennsylvania originally, but i live in Florida part time. I have two dogs named Nutella and Millie! My favorite genres are sci fi, mystery, thriller, fantasy, and horror! My all time favorite book is Project Hail Mary (and favorite movie)!
If this is your first wheel-a-thon, don't be stressed! They are pretty straight forward and the co captains and I can help you! If you have any questions, always feel free to ask :)
Also if you guys could post your shelves and introduce youself, that would be amazingg!
First Mini:Adventurers leave much to the hands of Fate. Where will they go next? What tasks must they perform to achieve the prize? Fight a dragon? Solve a puzzle? Travel to the Underworlds and commune with those who have departed the mortal plane? Only the Gods really know and they rarely share any secrets.
Take your chances with Fate and spin for your next adventure! Each adventure is composed of 5 tasks inspired by one of Sullivan's books that takes place in the world of Riyria. Teams can have up to 3 sets of adventures going at any one time.
Once completed, books must be logged on the official sheet before requesting a new spin. Team captains cannot spin for their own team and must request a new spin in the captain's group. Teams cannot repeat adventures until all have been completed. If a team completes all the adventures and wishes to go again, they can start a new set. There are no limits to the number of times the team goes through these adventures, but a new set can only be started after the previous set is completed and logged.

Hi Everyone! I'm one of your co-caps - Elizabeth, looking to get us all started on this awesome adventure! I'm located in Wisconsin (central time zone). I'm married with 2 little kids that keep me very much on the lookout - my youngest thinks he's battle ready and keeps taking butter knives to fight his sister so that's fun! We love going on short hikes in our very beautiful parks. I spend pretty much every second of my day with at least one ear bud in and that means i listen to a lot of books. I'm also on Goodreads an absolute ton so if you have questions/need help I'm usually available to answer. This is my first-time co-captaining wheels but i will definitely try my best!
Hi Guys, I'm your other co-cap, Maritza. This will be my first time co-captaining a team (thought I'd dip my feet into things after so many years of lurking about). I am in NY (time zones always confuse me).I look forward to this challenge as it pushes me to up my reading. My reading has been all over the place these last couple of years.
As for challenge, I will read anything for points (have some of the BOM on hold list). I look forward to learning and working with you guys for these next few months.
Please add TT Shelf link as you introduce yourself.

Hello, my name is Catherine I am not new to reading, but newer to Goodreads. I luckily stumbled upon this challenge in my first year. This will be my third year. I live in Utah and have done all the outdoorsy stuff you can think of. I have no kids, so I live vicariously through my sister and spoil my Niece and Nephew. I am starting a new job where I will be travelling a lot less and not sitting at a desk. Not sure how that will affect my reading, so we will see.Shelf-https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...
Hi team! I am Kate. I live in Virginia. I am an avid reader. I will read most things in most formats. My shelf: trilos-wat
hello, everyone!I'm in Brazil, I'm an ebook reader (physical copies are very inconvenient for me, as they are way more expensive and harder to pass on).
Here's my shelf: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...
Hello everyone, I'm Lucy. I'm from the UK (at the moment GMT+1) but I'm a night shift worker who works batches of shifts so timing of messages will be a little bizarre. I read a lot of everything, but I'm a big mood reader so planning my reads is not my strong point! I've done a few of these group challenges before but I'm excited to do another Wheels!

Hi Everyone, I'm Lisa - from Sydney Australia and I've played lot of NBRC Challenges over the last ten years or so, I'm a bit of a challenge addict and also will read anything for a task.
I'm a Mum of 3 and a grandma of 6 which keeps me busy. Other than reading and my family my other love is travelling, I'll be going to my 50th country later on this year.
Great to be playing with you all. 😍

Czechia - part of a Christmas Markets trip. So looking forward to it.
Hi everyone. I'm Cilla from Missouri. I'm looking forward to this challenge and have participated in many challenges. Other than reading, I love to knit, crochet, cross stitch, spin my own yarns, quilt, etc. My kitties, Andrew and Kane, are my assistants in all fiber craft endeavors. I'm a mom to three grown children and have three grandchildren. My shelf: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...
Are we going to have a planning spreadsheet, or did I miss it?
Just one more check in and we're all here! What's something everyone's looking forward to during the challenge? Reading or otherwise.
I'm so ready for fall. We keep having days that will be 69°f and it makes me think here it comes! Then today it was 80 and humid and yeah. Trees have started to change color so there's that! And my family is super into Halloween so I loveee doing all the different events for the kiddos.
I love finding books that fit the tasks, boy I have read some great books and some not so great. 😁Capts, just following on from Cilla are we having a planning spreadsheet or do you want us to post completed books or tasks we are reading for in this thread?
Hi hi, I am Aimilia and I am originally from Greece, grew up in the UK, almost got married in Australia, and now live in the US in the PNW. I do big finance for big corp (#LateStageCapitalismSUCKS) and just came back from a 3-week vacation where I spent my days
1) reading all the books
2) lounging in hammocks, pools, floats and beds for 4 hours every day
3) eating all the ice cream
4) buying TONS of stickers and candles to feed my ever-growing love for scrapbooking and things that smell nice
5) swimming with dolphins and hot Hawaiian guys
6) eating more ice cream
Going from that back to corporate America makes me a grumpy cat.

Currently I am part of 8 different book clubs to cover all my favorite genres (Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Horror, Romance, Mystery, Fiction, you name it). My favorite of all my book clubs though is one where we read trashy romance novels! It didn't start as such; we did an honest-to-All-Gods effort to find good romance reads. However after 6 years, and with the rise of AI ghost-writers and BookTok, finding quality reads that we hadn't read before became an exercise in futility.
So we gave up and now purposefully choose the trashiest, stupidest, or most absurd romance books we can find. And to our surprise, some are actually pretty good! One of the latest ones we read was Impasta Syndrome: A Sentient Pasta Romance, which is a solid 3.5-stars from me. It has plot, it has world-building, it has spaghetti getting into places no pasta should ever go(!)... What's not to like?! :D
This is my challenge shelf
Shannon wrote: "My all time favorite book is Project Hail Mary (and favorite movie)!"
I read the book for a book club, and then watched the movie I think 17 times. 6 in the cinema and 11 at home with friends. I adore it and I sincerely hope it gets some recognition come awards time!
Lisa, my ex-fiance and very good friend just graduated the NSW police academy and started work in Kings Cross. I plan to visit him in a few months! For now he is getting his apartment furnished and I want to send him a housewarming something, so if you have recommendations for florists and bakers (for a bouquet and muffins or something) please do share!
Question: I noticed we have a mini on Message 9 and then another one on Message 19? Or is it the same? You can reserve one of those posts for a later mini if so!
I'm pretty sure we'll have a planning sheet i just don't think it's ready yet!As for the mini i did post it twice. Once in the reserved slot so anyone could find it easily and once just in line so everyone would see it scrolling through. 🤣 not that it's not just available on the mini page too.
Sounds like you had a super fun vacation! I would love to swim with dolphins 🤣
I too am in many a group on here and my challenge obsession started with this group, but has since become a sprawling thing. I've got several team challenges starting next month (and finishing this month) and I've gotten very good at task juggling. 😬
