Countdown to start: https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...

Countdown to End of Round One: https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...

Team Planning Sheet: will follow

Mini 1 - Wheel of Fate (runs for the entire challenge)

‼️IMPORTANT‼️

‼️With Goodreads having removed the private messaging feature, captains can no longer hunt you down if you go missing in action. So we ask you to PLEASE check in at least once a week on the team thread to let us know you're still playing. The team thread is here for chatting as well as planning around the challenge, please make use of it :-)

‼️ If you are aware you're going to be offline for a longer period (maybe you're going on a holiday, or won't be able to use your pc/etc for some reason for a longer time), then please let us know beforehand so the team doesn't have to worry about you having gotten lost somewhere in the nethers of reality. THANK YOU!

Hello and welcome to Team Alurya!!

Personally, I have not yet read any of the books in the Riyria world, but I have given the first chapter of Theft of Swords a go earlier this month and I enjoyed those few pages a lot, so I will most definitely dive into this series during the challenge!!

Has anyone on the team read Michael J. Sullivan's books? If so, what did you think? Do you have a favourite character?

If you haven't read them, let's explore them for this challenge, shall we?? :-)

Sammy and I will be your captains in this band of thieves and travellers and whatnot!
(The above is not an accurate representation of us - in case you were wondering..)

Most of you will probably know the Wheel challenge. Some of you might not. Wheel-a-Thon is a fairly easy and straightforward challenge. With a few twists, because that's just how the mods roll ;-)

⚔⚔ However, one way or another - and I cannot stretch this enough - read the rules, carefully. If you're uncertain, read them again. If you're still uncertain, feel free to ask us captains, we are here to answer any and all questions :-)

Aside from the Wheel spell-out, and whatever else the mods might throw at the teams, you can read the current Books of the Month and answer discussion questions to collect a few extra points for the team, just like you can read Michael J. Sullivan's novels for some extra points. These are not everyone's cup of tea, so do not feel like you have to read them. Extra points are nice, but only if you enjoy the reading and don't have to force yourself.

⚔⚔ Oh, and while you're here, please remember to create your Wheel shelf if you haven't already done so. When you swing by, please post a link to it, thanks!

The most important thing to remember for this challenge though - HAVE FUN! :-)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 14223 comments Hello team!

Most of you know me already. I'm Sammy, also known as "that nutcase that reads far too many huge books", or "the nut-case" for short 😆

I read anything I can get my hands on, and will read pretty much anything for a challenge. But mostly I read loooooooong books where I can.

Aside from reading chunksters, I enjoy many things, most of which have no bearing on what's going on here. what will though, is my tendency to provide inspirational posts in the form of pictures of pretty people.
These people are all ones that have chosen to be in the public eye (actors, musicians, etc.), and I will not post anything more revealing than what you would find on a book cover.
It's all just a bit of fun, but if anyone is uncomfortable with that, please sing out and I'll put them behind a spoiler tag!

As for the theme this year, I haven't read any of the books, but I definitely intend to this wheels. I have the first 3 ready to go!

Good to know... 😁

There are in fact many of your fellow countrymen who could make the cut... In fact, I'm sitting on an audio narrated by Nathan Fillion for wheels because it has a Y author... 🥰

Susan A | 750 comments Hi Team! My name is Susan; I live in New Jersey (Timezone: EST). I think this is my first Wheelathon. Unfortunately, I do not like to read high fantasy, so I'll be no help with Riyria books. I'll keep an eye on the BOMs, but I'm not hopeful - between fantasy winners and long library hold times, it didn't work for me during Tower Teams. On the positive side, I usually do read the maximum amount.

Is there anything I should be looking for in order to prepare?

Susan A wrote: "Is there anything I should be looking for in order to prepare?"

For the time being, not really. As soon as the team sheets will be released (in a few days), we'll know which word we'll have to spell-out and then we can start hunting for books that fit the words.

Fair warning, mods do tend to enjoy words with difficult letters... ;-))

Currently my combined TBR is around 500-ish. If I included books I don't own but am interested in, we'd probably hit 20x that without breaking a sweat 😆

Dizzy (dizzygraves) | 117 comments Hi! My name is Dizzy, I'm excited to be here! I will have to share my shelf on Monday, the good read app is interesting, I can't seem to find a way to copy the link.

I've been slowly amping up my reading numbers, this year is the most books I've ever read in a year. Really ambitious goal but I want to meet it without stressing so I won't be focused too heavily on page numbers and more on the amount of books I can get done. I will probably try to read the series this is based on, as I enjoy fantasy .

When I'm not reading, I'm doing mom things from cleaning to shooting 1 billion ducks on Roblox.

:) I am confused easily so I'll have lots of questions I'm sure. Maybe I'll finally catch on the third try.

Hello and welcome!

Ah, there is no sheet to request access to as we do not have a team sheet yet, which is also why the challenge sheet is locked until further notice.

Once the team sheets are out, only captains will have access to the official team sheet. The team will only have access to the planning sheet, and you usually don't need to request access for that :-)

Hello and welcome to the team!

Yes, the app is notoriously bad, and often tries out the weirdest kinds of bugs on its users. Which is why for challenge we tend to tell people to NOT use it, unless it's for talking on the team thread. Everything else will just work horribly.

Ask away, no need to worry. It's usually easier to sometimes step away from it, come back a few minutes later and re-read and rethink whatever you think is confusing because it's usually quite straightforward. We just tend to overthink things hehe.

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1780 comments Hi team! It is so lively here already! Loved the pictures so far. Lol.

I'm Juliana, a brazilian who lives in Oslo, Norway.
It has been a couple of years (coff, coff, more like 5 or more) since I participated in a challenge here on NBRC, but I was quite active before the kids got most of my free time.

I read most fantasy and sci fi, and the variations around it. But I do like some mysteries, romance and fiction now and then.
I have a limited resource of books available, I use most my library and some audiobook. Although my library has a good selection of books in English is just a small portion of the archive. But I'll do my best to help also with the trick letters.

I also didn't read yet any of Sullivan's book but have heard some good reviews through the years. And I managed to buy the first book to read during the challenge too.

My shelf is: Wheelathon XI

I think the most books I've bought in a year has been around 300 or so. I could happily add books I'm interested in at at least 10x that rate 😆

Weird that...

I missed this side of Sammy...

Ahem....

Where was I oh, right, shelf

Hi team, I'm Sonia, I live in Portugal, with my sister Eni, her lovely daughter and two cats that gracefully allow me to sleep on part of my bed.

I'm really happy to meet all familiar and new faces and I am excited to be back to my all time favorite challenge.

Right now I'm enjoying my last three days off before going back to work, and trying to finish final fantasy XVI before the challenge starts.

Last weekend I went to the bookstore and had to put my hands on my pockets because they had the entire Heated Rivalry series and I even picked the cute editions up before remembering that 1) I already have the digital version and 2) I don't like reading naughty scenes in Portuguese.

Yes, some books were bought and special editions were ordered, sadly, none for me. Even if I'm totally borrowing them to read at some point

I most certainly do... But I only singled out Karen because we were talking about Canadians and her boyfriend fits. 😉

Oh hey, I could pacify Jenny too with this guy:
