Each chain requires 3 books total
Each team member contributes 1 book per chain

🔮 The Conclave’s Favor (Fallback Hunt)

When a hunt proves too elusive, the Conclave may offer… an alternative path.

During the challenge, each player may call upon the Conclave for guidance.

Instead of completing a difficult or overly specific task, you may:

👉 Roll 2d6 or 1d12 https://rolladie.net/#!numbers=1&...
👉 Complete the assigned task below instead
👉 Your book will still count as a full chain link

🎯 The Conclave’s Boon Table
🎲 1. Color of the Veil
Read a book where one color makes up at least 50% of the cover

🎲 2. Marked by the Beast
Read a book with an animal or creature on the cover

🎲 3. Hunter’s Tool
Read a book with a weapon or tool on the cover
(blade, staff, gun, bow, etc.)

🎲 4. Whispered Name
Read a book with a specific word in the title
👉 Roll 1d6:
1–2: Blood
3–4: Shadow
5–6: Fire

🎲 5. Echoes in the Text
Read a book where the assigned word appears at least twice in the title, synopsis, or text.
👉 Roll 1d6:
1–2: Dark
3–4: Death
5–6: Power

🎲 6. Domain of the Hunt
Read a book set primarily in:
👉 Roll 1d6:
1–2: Forest
3–4: City
5–6: Water (ocean, river, or lake)

🎲 7. The Unnatural
Read a book featuring a supernatural or non-human element

🎲 8. Marked Soul
Read a book with a main character who is cursed, transformed, or hunted

Read a book that includes one of these themes:
Revenge
Survival

🎲 10. Cover of Omen
Read a book with:
A face, OR
A single prominent object on the cover

🎲 11. Hidden Thread
Read a book with:
A map, symbol, sigil, emblem, crest, or other meaningful marking connected to the story.

Read a book that clearly fits the supernatural, horror, or fantasy realm
(Must be justifiable—no unrelated reads)

⚖️ Rules & Restrictions
⭐ Each Hunter receives 1 Conclave Boon during the challenge.
🔗 One Boon may replace one eligible task and counts as one completed chain link.
📣 The Boon must be declared before finishing the book.
🎲 Once rolled, the assigned Boon task must be completed — no rerolls.
📖 One qualifying book completes one Boon task.
📖 HOB Standard Rules Apply
🚫 Boons cannot replace Tasks #11, #14, #19, or #23.


🌒 Veilbound Advantage (backup players)
Veilbound Reserves may carry a maximum of 3 Veil Sigils with them when called into the main hunt. Sigils are earned while playing in the Veilbound Reserves and are available only to those players.

🔮 Each Veil Sigil may be exchanged for 1 additional Conclave Boon use.
✨ Once exchanged, that Sigil is spent.
🎲 Additional Boons use the same Boon Table and rules as the player's original Boon.
🚫 The same task restrictions apply.

“It does not fall… it returns.”

The Conclave has confirmed the presence of a Regeneration-bound entity—one that does not rely on strength alone, but on persistence.

It does not rush.
It does not retreat.
It endures.

Wounds close where they should not.
Damage fades as if it never happened.
And what was defeated… rises again.

It does not need to win quickly.
It does not need to overpower.
It only needs to outlast.

Some fight it head-on.
Some try to outmaneuver it.
Some believe they have finally defeated it.

Trolls are known to:
⭐recover from damage over time
⭐return after being defeated
⭐outlast opponents through persistence
If you notice:
⭐problems reappearing after being resolved
⭐repeated obstacles or setbacks
⭐or a situation that refuses to stay finished…

To capture the troll:
📖Read a chain of 3 books that continue a series each reader has already started.
📖Read a chain of 3 books featuring endurance, survival over time, or lasting through hardship
📖Read a chain of 3 books where defeating an obstacle or enemy takes more than one attempt.
📖Read a chain of 3 books by authors each team member has previously read. (The author only needs to have been previously read by the team member using that book, not by the entire team.)

I'm currently reading a book that will count for author I have read before or maybe defeating an obstacle with more than one attempt and one for lasting through hardship. The series we have each read will take a bit more research.

I'm clearly missing it. I don't see anything in our spreadsheet with a spinner. I also don't see anything to track our monsters.

I used the dice in message 2 to get the number. I rolled twice.

Maybe this is why I was so confused at the start of this lol.

I think I need to request access to the spreadsheet as mine is view only right now.

Ok, I finally found it. I was supposed to get the wheel by going to the picture on the Conclave Assignments tab.

Sigh...NOW I understand the assignment I think lol

I have tons of open series, so this one will be easy for me.

I'm currently reading two books. One will work for all 4 and the other one I think only works for lasting through a hardship.

I can double up on some of these if needed. I think Amanda is traveling for the next couple of weeks.

I thought that series book was one that we all had read so maybe I read that wrong. I can probably double up if needed as well.

Do you have access to make changes on our spreadsheet? I'm view only, so I can't add any books or anything just yet.

I asked in Q&A to open the sheet up, so everything should be good now.

Oh good-I hadn’t added my Duma Key book yet until I knew which task it will work better for but I should be able to start one of the other tasks soon.

I'm about to start one that will work for chain 3!

Btw, Shaw—Jamie is aware but just FYI I'm in Japan until the 13th so I might be a little less active on here until then but I'll still be getting on sporadically :)

I'm still trying to get an understanding of how everthing works. The dice we use is just to determine what monster or creature we get right?

Gotcha- Japan sounds like such fun! I think the spinner is for the monsters and the die is for if we call in a conclave favor.

I don't understand how it all works yet. I rolled the dice, but Donna said there was a spinner.

I later found the spinner on the spreadsheet, so I started this challenge off wrong lol

Well - none of the books I am reading includes that so I will be switching out my series book to something else.

Yeah, I don't have anything for this either...sigh

Ok, I'm currently reading a book, so this will need to be my next read.

But I have no idea what this is??? I tried to find something, so I'm not sure if we are all supposed to read for this or just one of us?

Do we have to read this before moving back to the spreadsheet with our tasks for the troll? Or is this something extra we read?

I'm clearly reading too much into this, lol.

That was my understanding that it applied to all of us and I happened to be currently reading for my last two books on the spreadsheet and neither of them fit that so that's why I am switching that series task as that will be easier to fit.

Yeah, I switched my one book to the series. I did find one that I think will work for the obstacle now.

I get home tomorrow so once I'm home and caught up on everything, I'll make a tracker for the thread so it's easier to keep track of what's completed and stuff.

I have finished my books so y’all let me know if you need any help.

I should have my last book done today. My son broke his collarbone last night during pre-game, so I spent 4 hours in the ER and didn't get it done as I was hoping.

Oh no! Hope he is doing ok now.

He's in a lot of pain today, but no surgery. The next couple of days will be a bit rough. The pain meds are helping though :)

I forgot to come back but I finished my book Sat., night.

Amanda - Do you need any help with the two you have left? I have books that will fit both of the ones you have left.

Thanks! This was the same son who broke his wrist (back in May) and needed surgery, with a couple of pins put in. Thankfully no surgery with this one. We go and see the ortho Dr. next week so I'm hoping to know a bit more then. My 14-year-old plays football/basketball, and my 10-year-old plays hockey.

I added my books to the spreadsheet, but I wanted to make sure you saw this before I post. Do you have a book with "Lost" in the title that will work for any of the tasks? If not, I believe it'll have to work for whatever we get next.

Ah no I didn't so thanks for mentioning it lol damn. If I can do it next round that would probably be quicker for us than waiting for me to get to it cause I'm in the middle of a book now and I'll have to find something that works. I'll read it next though.

A cute little indie book shop just opened 5 min from my house so I'm really excited about it and am about to go check it out. I'm gonna see if I can find something there.

I'm also gonna see if the owner will take donations (i'm hoping she will) because I need something to do with all my books lol

I have so many books I have to get rid of. I just don't have room, and when we moved back to the states from Germany, I went crazy and subscribed to every book box known to man. I've since cancelled all but 3, but I have way too many (2478 to be exact lol)

I thought it wouldn't matter as long as it was the next book posted, but it's best to ask. I've had the rules messed up on this challenge since the beginning lol
