Victoria (nemerith) | 1560 comments Overview Nem's 2026 RAT

The Stats:

✓ Number of days/hours spent reading:
3 days of 8 hours

✓ Number and/or list of books read:
Spark the Flames (Secret of the Syphon, #1) by Ivy Asher Ignite the Infernos (Secret of the Syphon #2) by Ivy Asher Lark (Beware of the Widows) by Lexi C. Foss The Games Gods Play (The Crucible, #1) by Abigail Owen Claimed (The Caged Wolf #2) by Shona Knight Freed (The Caged Wolf #3) by Shona Knight

✓ Number of pages read:
1665 pages

The Fun Part:

✓ Did you find it fun or was it more of a chore to complete?
I always love our yearly RAT, even when I'm cursing life for getting in the way of precious reading time *sigh*

✓ Is this your first time participating in a Read-a-Thon? If so, would you participate again or was once enough? If not, how did this year's RAT compare?
Nope, I've completed a few RATs by now, and this year was at least a lot easier than the previous one. I didn't plan enough backup days, so I ended that RAT in October.

✓ Did you choose RAT books in advance? If so, were you able to read all of the books you'd set aside? Did you find yourself straying from your chosen books and reading more based on mood or another reason?
Oh, as always, I chose my list beforehand, taking into account how many pages I normally read an hour. But even then, I'm a mood reader, so staying with the books I picked was doomed from the start (and that's okay).

✓ Did you have a favorite reading spot?
On the sofa (sitting sideways with legs stretched out), with one of my cats sleeping on my legs and the other one trying to pretend he's a demonic scarf.

✓ Did you find it difficult to stick to your reading schedule? If so, how'd ya overcome it?
As work was rly busy, I felt very tired during the weekends, so reading for 8h was frequently interrupted by catnaps lol (gotta love a countdown app on your phone)

✓ Did you discover a new series, author or genre?
I actually discovered 2 new-to-me authors: Abigail Owen (The Crucible) and Shona Knight (The Caged Wolf)

✓ Did you read alone or with a partner?
Alone... all alone. Though, are you ever alone when you have cats?

✓ Which book format(s) did you use for your RAT? Audio, Paperback/Hardcover (DTB), or eBook OR did you use a mix of formats?
ebooks ftw!

Eldarwen | 2366 comments Oooookay, so let's see what I ended up with this year.

Give us the Scoop:
⓸ SLOW & STEADY: Four or more days (2-7h)

✓ Number of days/hours spent reading: I managed to read my 24 hours in 7 days and that was before I had time off work and more reading time, so not too bad actually!
But as always I tracked my reading throughout the month anyway and I even managed a decent number of pages most days. I need to make a clearer distinction for next year though between those specifically for the RAT days and the rest of the month.

✓ Number of pages read:
for RAT: ~900
for the entire month: 3029

✓ Number and/or list of books read for the entire month:
Completed Books:
Death at La Fenice (Commissario Brunetti, #1) by Donna Leon Death in a Strange Country by Donna Leon The Last Phi Hunter by Salinee Goldenberg Queens of the Jungle (Dino Island, #4) by J.R. Hogan John Sinclair 1748 Pakt mit dem Jenseits (German Edition) by Jason Dark John Sinclair 1747 So schmeckt der Tod (German Edition) by Jason Dark You Only Love Twice (London Steampunk The Blue Blood Conspiracy, #3) by Bec McMaster The Story Collector by Evie Gaughan Blind Date with a Werewolf by Patricia Briggs The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon

Planned Books
The Last Phi Hunter by Salinee Goldenberg The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon Queens of the Jungle (Dino Island, #4) by J.R. Hogan The Story Collector by Evie Gaughan Blood Over Bright Haven by M.L. Wang Theft of Swords (The Riyria Revelations, #1-2) by Michael J. Sullivan

Books started during RAT

Optional Add'l Info to Share:

✓ Did you find it fun or was it more of a chore to complete?
always fun :-)

✓ Is this your first time participating in a Read-a-Thon? If so, would you participate again or was once enough? If not, how did this year's RAT compare?
This year, the RAT went better than it has in other years. I found more moments where I spent several hours reading than at other times, and I could have happily made it to 48 hours without trouble.

✓ Did you choose RAT books in advance? If so, were you able to read all of the books you'd set aside? Did you find yourself straying from your chosen books and reading more based on mood or another reason?
I had a few books picked out and actually stuck to them, mainly because they were BOMs in another group and my real life bookclub read so it was easier to stick to a book plan this time haha.

✓ Did you have a favorite reading spot?
Nope :-)

✓ Did you find it difficult to stick to your reading schedule? If so, how'd ya overcome it?
No reading schedule - if I plan these things it works out very poorly haha.

✓ Did you discover a new series, author or genre?
I read a few new-to-me authors. I'm probably going to read more Donna Leon off and on, my mother owns all the books after all. I may pick up another Evie Woods for a slower yet engaging pace. I'm not sure about Salinee Goldenberg. Ariel Lawhon picks interesting real-life people to write historical fiction about, so I'll be keeping an eye out for her books and see if another one catches my fancy.

✓ Did you read alone or with partner?
Alone - sometimes the cat would deign to be present as well, but only sometimes hehe.

✓ Which book format(s) did you use for your RAT? Audio, Paperback/Hardcover (DTB), or eBook OR did you use a mix of formats?
Paperbacks all around with a bit of audio mixed in for the Donna Leon books.

That's great, regardless of the reason. I always struggle. I feel a need to make a list, then can't make myself stick to it. 😝

Thanks for joining us again for our RAT, y'all! Hope to see ya back for another in 2027!

Thanks for making it happen! And I'll be sure to sign up then as well... who knows, I might actually stick to my choices (but tbh... I think I enjoy making lists more than... you know... following them lol 😉)

Eldarwen | 2366 comments So you're saying that lists are meant to be followed? Not just made for fun? Huh! What a novel concept hehehehe

message 8: by Victoria (new)

Victoria (nemerith) | 1560 comments I know, right???

Hmm... looking at my to-do list for today, though, yeah, I'll have to follow that one, unfortunately 😩
(I rly rly rly love crossing these tasks off when finished hahaha)

But book lists... yeah, no 😂😂
