Maggie Nelson, Annie Dillard's literary executor, confirmed earlier today that Annie died at her home. She wrote and published many books, but it was her 1974 book, Pilgrim at Tinker Creek, that made her famous and highly regarded as a nonfiction writer associated with nature and environmental writing (although she was not fond of being pigeon-holed).

RIP Annie Dillard

I have never read anything of hers, but I just saw she was originally from Pittsburgh, so of course I now have to read up on her! I just purchased her memoir on the nook for $1.99!

I thought that everything she wrote was environmental/nature themed and so haven't avoided her but also haven't made a point to read anything she wrote. There was always some day. But my big learning today was, she wrote about a lot of topics - and also wrote poetry.

Her website lists books as well as essays and when I have time later this week, I want to invest some of it checking out an essay or two and seeing whether I want to find and experience more.

I knew I had heard something similar before. There are two quotes, unfortunately according to Goodreads not attributed to Annie Dillard.

I hate to admit this but it was probably Jordan's that was popping into my mind!
