What happens when someone who believes everything can be possessed meets the one person who refuses to belong to him?
Velvet Blade: Requiem for Captivity is a dark, mythic literary novel about Azarêa, a young woman whose father gives her to a powerful ruler, Sayyid al-Nar. He believes that everything can be possessed, understood, and controlled. Azarêa becomes the one thing he cannot fully possess.
Their relationship becomes a confrontation between control and freedom, power and instinct, possession and something in a human being that refuses to belong to anyone. The novel includes sensuality, mysticism, ritual, and a world shaped by women, inherited knowledge, the body, and the desert. It isn’t a conventional romance, and I think of it less as historical fiction than as a myth about what happens when two forces meet and neither can remain unchanged.
If this sounds like the kind of story you might be drawn to, I’d love to hear from you. I’m currently looking for ARC readers who would be interested in reading Velvet Blade and sharing an honest review.
