Alias Reader (aliasreader) | 34585 comments What shows are you looking forward to seeing this Fall ?

I'm looking forward to seeing:

Ludwig on BritBox premieres in the United States on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, with new episodes coming out weekly.

I also want to see
Season 4 of Blue Lights premieres on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK on September 29, 2026, but an exact release date for BritBox in North America has not been officially announced yet (it is expected in late 2026 or early 2027). Seasons 1 through 3 are currently streaming on Brit Box.

I never heard of Law & Order Toronto.

Is the CW an app?

JoAnn | 5141 comments I am looking forward to DOC returning next week. Great medical + show.

Other shows I enjoy return mostly in October, including Ludwig, Noboby Wants This on Netflix and The Diplomat.

madrano | 28633 comments Alias, i thought the CW used to mean “Country Western” channel, which we called it, for years. No, it’s a combo of Columbia & Warner Bros, i think. It’s on my TV dial, so to speak, but there is probably an app, too.

Last year we watched the few episodes they offered of the Toronto show but thought it had been canceled, so we’re happy to learn otherwise.

Here in New York, CW is channel 11. I thought it was just one of our local channels. I don't watch much TV so asked Google what there programing was. According to Google -- In New York City, The CW broadcasts on WPIX-TV (Channel 11), which serves as the network's de facto flagship station. Programming is split between the national CW network lineup and WPIX's local broadcasts "The prime-time and weekend schedule consists heavily of sports, unscripted reality television, and game shows"

Alas no Law & Order Toronto. :(

Joy | 216 comments I just started watching The Pitt (am about a quarter of the way through the first season) and love it! Also planning to watch the Chinese adaptation of The Three Body Problem.

A few other shows that sound interesting are Slow Horses, Pluribus, and now Ludwig that a few people mentioned earlier in this thread. Based on my TV-watching history, I'll most likely never get around to most of these because I almost always get lured away by a book!

Interesting. In Dallas, the channel which is now CW used to be a local. I thought they were bought out, but maybe not. My feeble brain cannot handle many changes. lol

Joy, we really like Pitt. I watched two seasons of Slow horses, but was tired of Oldham’s character by the end. DH is eager to get caught up. He’s working his way through the books; i stopped after the first. Plenty for every taste. Enjoy!

We didn’t start with that program, but the bits we saw last year looked better than i expected. I hope it continues to please you.

I didn't realize Slow Horses was based on books. I'll have to look them up!

madrano | 28633 comments PattyMac, one of our members who lives in Australia reviewed the first, Slow Horses—Mick Herron a few years ago. I followed up by reading & liking it. When the series began we watched it, which was when he began reading them.

Here is a link to her review, Joy.

I love THE PITT!!!! So real.

There is an "official" podcast that started with season 2 that I really enjoy. The hosts are a doctor and a TV person. They discuss the show, how it is made (the one about the costuming was fabulous!), and usually have 1 or 2 of the actors on, as well.

JoAnn | 5141 comments Just saw this and know some of you like this show. It may be old news!

The Great British Baking Show returns with new judge Nigella Lawson, a cookbook author and TV personality. She joins Paul Hollywood, Noel Fielding, and Alison Hammond as they seek the UK's best amateur baker. New episodes premiere every Friday on Netflix starting Sept. 25.

I've never been a fan of Nigella's cooking. As far as i can recall, i've never used one of her recipes. Although, to be fair, until these UK Baking Shows, i'd never heard of Paul Hollywood, either.

Her recipe for ETON MESS is the best!

and this chicken recipe is so quick and easy:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioFCE...

I do put the chicken back into the sauce for a minute, though

message 23: by madrano (new)

madrano | 28633 comments I would, too. Thanks, JoAnn. For the last few months i've been off chicken. It's been years since i even cooked any, but used to at least eat it. I hope this changes, as i have some recipes i really, really liked.

Does it just turn you off...or what? What proteins do you eat?

We probably have chicken 3-4 times a week. Very little beef. I try to do meatless once a week. Use a good amount of (USA wild, fresh-caught) shrimp and salmon - never the farmed stuff).

message 25: by madrano (new)

madrano | 28633 comments During this trip, i also am iffy on fish. Not good. Fortunately, we are fans of all sorts of beans, lentils, tofu (best as Sofritas, imo), quinoa and eggs. Not all egg dishes, though. It's a weird phase, i think. I hope. :-)

I still eat meat, it just seems to be a daily thing.

We eat a lot of chicken too. Sometimes we prepare a batch of chichen breasts on Sunday night, then I use it in different ways throughout the week to make meal prep easier...chicken parmesan, chicken tacos, just chicken with sides....

message 27: by madrano (new)

madrano | 28633 comments We used to do the same. As fans of Asian Chicken Salad, a greens-based dish, we used quite a bit of the cooked meat, after marinating it in a mild concoction. I also liked Cold Chicken Salad, similar to tuna, so used the already cooked meat there, too. Another salad i liked was based on Ina Garten's recipe. She cooked the chicken, with skin & bones on, but i just used the cooked stuff.

And casseroles, of course. It's a great meat and i hope i will be able to stand it again in the near future.

I eat vegetarian meals most of the time. I would add tempeh to the list.

Every other week or so I will have chicken. Fish (salmon or flounder) usually once a week or every other week. I eat canned tuna and canned sardines. Beef maybe a burger every few months.

I now try to mix rice with lentils or quinoa for extra protein.

Though contrary to the current protein craze, the vast majority don't need to worry about protein. They get plenty. Fiber is another story. Most American fall way below the recommended Minimum of 25-30 grams.

From the list, I've only seen a single show. Downton Abby and that was years ago.

I've watched far too many, i guess. Most of those were from when we lived in a motel here in Tx, so had free HBO. Did you note how few "regular" (NBC, ABC, etc) programs there were? We really liked the fresh look at families, which "Modern Family" offered.

Curiously, the more recent ones i've watched has been because our daughter lived with us inbetween her international travels. "The American" was probably my favorite of those, but "Chernobyl" was outstanding, too.

Apparently i'm picky about tempeh but if my daughter cooks it, i'll eat it. lol

True, re. fiber. This is a bonus in using more beans, btw.

I find steaming it a bit first is helpful. About 10 minutes.

---Why Steam Tempeh

Removes bitterness: Raw or packaged tempeh can have a slightly bitter or funky taste from the fermentation process.

Softens texture: Steaming makes the dense bean cake more tender.

Opens pores: Warm, steamed tempeh absorbs marinades and sauces much better.

message 37: by Barbara (new)

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 4367 comments The Remembrance of Earth's Past Trilogy by Liu Cixin is a favorite of mine; I've read all three books. The first book is The Three-Body Problem

Now I've watched the American screen adaptation of the first book - called The Three Body Problem (8 episodes) on Netflix and I've watched the Chinese screen adaptation - called Three Body (30 episodes) on Prime.

The Chinese version is MUCH better, and sticks much closer to the book. The American version fiddles too much with the characters, adds new ones, and departs too far from the story.

Both have seasons 2 coming out.

This is my review of book one https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

message 38: by madrano (new)

madrano | 28633 comments Thank you for this post, Barbara. I decided i want to revisit the Prime version, as a result. But first, i'm going to reread the novel. While i liked it the first go 'round, there were parts which baffled me. So, before i try the second in the trilogy, i want to refresh my mind as much as i can.

I appreciate that you took the time to explain the differences you saw. I do NOT need more characters.
