Speed Monopoly

Book Bashers (team 1)

How the game will work:
* Taking turns, each person on the team rolls two dice. https://www.random.org/dice/
* Each player will build off the previous player's roll to continue around the board.
Example:
* Harry rolls a 5 and reads a book for the 5 Spot.
* Hermione rolls a 6. 5 + 6 = 11. She lands on 11 and reads a book for that Spot.
* Ron rolls a 10. 11 + 10 = 21. Ron lands on 21 and reads a book for that Spot.
* Hagrid rolls a 9. 21 + 9 = 30. He lands on 30 and reads a book for that Spot.
That is the only time team members need to take turns rolling the dice. After you have finished and reported your book, you can roll again. You don't need to wait for another player to finish their book.
Example:
Hermione has finished and reported her book. She immediately rolls. The last player to roll (Hagrid) is on Spot 30. Hermione rolls a 12 and lands on 2. 30 + 12 = 42. (There are only 40 spots on the board, so Hermione continues past Go! to Spot 2 on the board.)
Remember, you can't read more books that you have declared. Don't begin a new book if you have reached your limit for that Week unless you plan on finishing it the following Week. That book will count towards your total for that next Week.
I foresee two potential problems with this style of team challenge.
1 - burnout. Please pace yourself. Even if you can read 4 or 5 books a Week, carefully gauge how well you are handling this marathon. This is meant to be fun! Balance your competitive side with the amount of fun you are having.
2 - cross-posting. I worry that Hermione and Ron are going to post their rolls at the same time and then everyone will be confused at who reads for which Spot. I strongly encourage you to post your message, leave your team thread, and immediately come back to check for cross-posting. If you are the second cross-poster, edit your message to build off the first cross-poster's Spot.

It's time to play Speed Monopoly! Are you ready?
* Have you introduced yourself to your teammates?
* Has your team picked out a team name?
* Have you decided in what order you will roll the dice at the beginning?
* Have you decided who will be Team Watcher? (The Team Watcher will only need to watch and make sure that the rolls and resultant Spots are correct, cross-posting, etc. Generally, watch that everything goes smoothly.)
Sample Roll and Selection Post
I have rolled _____ and am now on Spot _____.
Spot _____'s task:
I plan on reading:
How it fits the task:
And I have news... There are no Team Completion Posts for this challenge. There will be one Reporting thread where everyone will make a Completion Post as they finish their books. I will keep track of who has met the 1-book-a-Week requirement and how many points each team has.

One time use cards to roll again. You may not like a low scoring Spot, Jail, or a task that is difficult for you. Just mention on the Reporting thread that you are using a card and I will remove it from this Message.

👋🏽👋🏽nice to meet you team. Im NOT able to be watcher. I'd like to request to roll last.My go to is romance & subgenres
i don't normally pick up M/M, slowburns, clean romance, cozy mystery, YA or ROMANTASY.
i prefer historical fiction, non fiction/ true crime, poly romance/ M/F/F, romance/ erotica, dark romance, pitch black plots, urban fiction, PNR, horror/ splatterpunk etc.
Team name suggestions: Spooky Season Ghouls, From Dark to Light, Tricks for Your Treats, Book Bashers, Bookopoly Book Bashers,
I only read MM romance ..but im not seeing why we had to say First of all i thought we would have to read recommendations from each other , then i thought perhaps wed have to cover a wide range of genres ....but im not seeing either of those
Janeylou wrote: "I only read MM romance ..but im not seeing why we had to say First of all i thought we would have to read recommendations from each other , then i thought perhaps wed have to cover a wide range of..."
Yeah, I do see 2 tasks where you read from another teammates shelf, but other than that, I don't think genre will matter. I wonder if she changed up some of her task ideas after posting the sign-up?
Anyway, I don't mind being the team watcher if no one has the availability right now. I'm usually on GR everyday, so can make sure we're not cross rolling, etc.
I asked in Q&A a couple of questions because I do want to make sure I understand the rules because I'm a little confused. They boil down to: does a player have to read exactly what they signed up for each week, no more/no less. And what happens if you don't read the # you signed up for (if more than 1).
Team names? I like Book Bashers.
Other ideas: Boardwalk Bookers, JailBreak for Books
Im as blind as a bat sometimes 🙄🙄. I do everything on my phone so i think sometimes as i enlarge the print i end up missing half the page im reading 😄
From what i understand , we cant read any more than we said and if we dont read the amount we said then its tough luck 😄I shouldnt have a problem with mine ..house bound for next 2 weeks and nothing else to do , but can get back to driving after that

🧟♀️⛓️Lanelle says we can roll but CANNOT start reading until Monday on the Q&A thread. I am ready when you all are, I would like to roll last please🎃👻
Once your team has decided in what order everyone will roll for this first time, go ahead and roll so you can find a book for your first task and be ready to begin reading Monday morning.
I randomized the rest of us and put Trigger Warning last. How does this look for the first week roll:1. Princesspint
2. Janeylou (Janine)
3. LaurLa
4. Trigger Warning
We just need to wait for each other to roll this first time, then post our spot for the next person to know where to go. I'll make a tracking post of who is where and try to keep it current with all of the rolls as we go.
TrackingRolls & Spot
1. Princesspint - rolled 4; on spot 4 (1 of 4)
2. Janeylou - rolled 7; on spot 11 (1 of 2)
3. LaurLa - rolled 12; on spot 23 (1 of 1)
4. Trigger Warning - rolled 8; on spot 31 (1 of 2)
5. Janeylou - rolled 3; on spot 34 (2 of 2)
6. Janeylou - rolled 6; on spot 40 (1 of 2) - must finish after 10/12
7. LaurLa - rolled 7; on spot 7 (1 of 1) - must finish after 10/12
8. Princesspint - rolled 12; on spot 19 (2 of 4)
9. Princesspint - rolled 6; on spot 25 (3 of 4)
10. Princesspint - rolled 2; on spot 27 (4 of 4)
11. Trigger Warning - rolled 9; on spot 36 (2 of 2)
12. Princesspint - rolled 6; on spot 2 (1 of 4)
13. Janeylou - rolled 8; on spot 10 (1 of 2)
14. LaurLa - rolled 8; on spot 18 (1 of 1) - must finish after 10/19
Books completed by week:
Week 1: Oct. 5 - 11 (view spoiler)
Week 2: Oct. 12 - 18
1. Princesspint -

Princesspint, you need to read and report your book for Spot 4 before rolling again. I'm sorry for any confusion. It seems like there's always a learning curve at the beginning of every new challenge. :(
Other people on your team also need to roll their first rolls this first time.

Let's see how fast we can move around the board. Let's play Speed Monopoly!
The game begins Monday, October 5 and ends Sunday, Nov. 22. There are 7 weeks of the game.
Week 1: Oct. 5 - 11
Week 2: Oct. 12 - 18
Week 3: Oct. 19 - 25
Week 4: Oct. 26 - Nov. 1
Week 5: Nov. 2 - 8
Week 6: Nov. 9 - 15
Week 7: Nov. 16 - 22
The team with the most points at the end of the 7 Weeks wins.
Details:
You have seven (7) days to read one (1) book. (You can read more than 1 book if you declared in your signup post that you could read more than that, but you cannot read more that you declared.)
Rules:
1. You can't begin reading your book until Monday morning, 12:01 a.m. your time.
2. You must finish and report a book by Sunday night 11:59 p.m. your time.
3. For those players who declared that they would read 2 or more books a Week, if you have begun a book towards the end of a Week, you can continue reading it into the next Week. The book will count towards your total in the Week it was finished.
If a team member does not make a Completion Post for a certain Week, the team misses out on the points that team member's book would have added to the total. That person must begin rereading that book the following Monday, or start a new book.
If that team member misses a second Week, they will be removed from the team, and a replacement will (hopefully) be provided.
Exceptions are made for a planned absence or emergency.
Books must be 140 pages or more.
Graphic Novels must be 200 pages or more.
Audio books must be at least 3 hours long.
