I do most of the times. At the bookstore, I check the covers and buy the ones that look nice. Normally I check reviews too but the cover is what takes my attention
I have a couple of publishing houses whose covers I really like and prefer to have my own copy from them!
The childrens books I choose promised illustrations within.
Peter Pan
Pinocchio
I may yet read
The Wonderful Adventures of Nils

I mostly pick based on recommendations from my buddy reading groups, so covers don‘t really come into it for those picks. If I look at general lists of new publications, I am swayed to look at blurbs with prettier covers first. For example anything with naked people is skipped… 😝 or if there is kissing etc involved on the cover.
Similar book types/genres tend to have similar cover styles, so it can be a great help to look at book blurbs with covers that remind me of books I really liked.
Absolutely . And I have been dead wrong a lot of times .But , over the years , I have learned to read the plethora of online book reviews about the book , read the book jacket summaries and save the purchase reciept . If it's not a sale book it can probably be returned within 30 days .
