Is anyone reading it?
I rented the movie after the book. Liked it a little better because it was shorter & to the point...But it doesn't stand the test of time, however Richard Matheson wrote the screenplay as well...

I'm finished! Loved it. Ready to discuss when more of us are done. I read this in three days; it really held my attention, surprised me at times and was very well-written.
I really didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped I would. Perhaps because I'm a bit of a prude when it comes to my reading tastes and the book is full of sexual content. Pretty strong for the time it was written though... I started to watch the movie & thought how boring if I hadn't read the book.

I didn't mind the overt sexuality, I guess. I do agree that it is pretty strong though I didn't find it overwhelming and it didn't seem like it was added just for shock value. Would it have been scary/creepy without it? Definitely, so it could have been left out.
One thing I especially liked was the contrast of Fischer's humility vs. the ghost's ego. The bad guy's in it for himself; the good guy's part of a team working for the greater good. It's a common theme but it was interesting to see it woven into a horror novel.

I think age has a lot to do w/it... I didn't mind reading novels like that when I was younger, probably much younger. I'm gettin' too old for it now, ya young whipper-snappers
