I don't know about soundtrack and actors, but I have thought about camera work a bit. (This is what happens when you watch the commentaries of television shows.)In After Dark I think I would use a lot of wide shots interspaced with face shots in the night scenes specifically. For one, this would make it much easier to hide certain details that are hard to hide even using this method, and impossible to hide in mid-ranged shots. Also the wide shots sort of indicate that the characters are out of their depth and although they can run there appears to be nowhere to run to. Trapped in an open space.
During the day there should be a mapped out feel, suggesting heavy use of steady cam walking shots to bridge scenes that are in the same building but not the same room - in the school for instance. This should give a sense of knowing where everything is and maybe a feel of security that is lost in the night scenes. Also mid-ranged shots, or room view shot can give a sort of sit-com feel since those scenes are usually filled with humor.
Most important is to provide contrast between day and night (as if the lighting wasn't enough) because during the daytime they are safe (as explained in the book) and at night they most definitely are not.
Oh, that sounds good!!! Obviously you have put a lot of thought into the camera. (Much more than I probably ever will...)
If The Water Angel were a movie... (on Goodreads)Dunno for the cast yet, but the playlist would hafta include:
Angel Eyes by Love and Theft (that should be Sara's theme song!)
Paradise by Coldplay
Something Beautiful by Needtobreathe
Angels by Owl City
I've actually given the commercial a lot more thought than the movie, lol
Just stumbled across this thread.Interestingly enough, each chapter of Falling Night and Rising Day: Book of Cups DOES begin with a song by bands that have been gracious enough to permit me use of their lyrics.
It begins with Harvest I by Jonas Sees in Color, and concludes with Harvest II.

(This was actually filmed on my birthday last year; If you don't blink you can see me at 3:36.)
If “Brawl Mart, Pt. 1: Occupy Wrestling” was a movie…The opening song would be “Walk” by Pantera.
Tobin Bell would play Keegan Day (tyrannical owner of Keegan Day Wrestling).
Jennifer Lawrence would play Debra Winter (Mitch‘s valet girlfriend).
Niecy Nash would play Officer Nina Jordan (Keegan‘s arrester).
Dean Ambrose would play Mitch McLeod (KDW World Heavyweight Champion).
Kim Winslow would play Rosie “The Riveter” Rogers (lesbian referee).
Brodus Clay would play Jason Finnegan (Mitch’s manslaughter victim).
The end credits song would be “So Long” by Saliva.
If my self-published book UNCERTAIN was a movie I would choose the song, "Land of Confusion" by Genesis for the opening and the closing. I believe it captures the essence of my book. It could be playing on the car radio in a flashback at the very beginning on the movie. Toward the end, it could be played as piped in music in the hospital room but not as loudly and kind of trail off...
As for actors and actresses I have four MAIN characters. Those would be played by: Cameron Diaz as Ramona Mason, Victoria Justice (from Zoey 101) as eldest daughter Lynette, Harley Graham (from Thor) as younger daughter Nicki and Greg Vaughan (from various soaps) as Brother Rudy Keegan.
For a description of this book please check it out under my books. Also check out the Creative Writing section for poetry and short stories as well. Thanks so much!

My stories as movies would have merely a film score, incidental music written specifically for them, primarily to heighten mood. I like Christopher Young’s score for Flowers in the Attic, Philippe Sarde’s score for Ghost Story, and Jan Kaczmarek’s score for Lost Souls. I think any of those composers would do a suitable job. What story to make into a movie? How about “Trouble in Scribble City”?
Alexis Scott: Winona Ryder (at the age she was in Lost Souls).
Kat Hayes: Laina Morris (the Overly Attached GF).
Tom Edwards: Tom Felton.
Cyrus Dupont: Robert David Hall (at the age he was in the first season of “CSI”).
When my book, The Clockmaker's Daughter, is made into a movie the end song will be Heart by Thomas Bergersenhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lt9TG...
I haven't given much thought to the actors and actresses. I'm actually a little wary of doing so as it may narrow my thinking if I associate a character with an actor.
If “Brawl-Mart, Pt. 2: Filter Feeder” was a movie…The opening song would be “Cornucopia” by Serj Tankian.
Patrick Warburton would play Peter Stein (heartless CEO of Stein Energy)
Walton Goggins would play Wes Edwards (clam fisherman)
Kenneth Johnson would play Jacob Kruger (clam fisherman and Wes’s best friend)
Alistair Overeem would play Tyson Hardy (seven-foot tall machinegun-wielding mercenary)
Morgan Freeman would play Demetrious Bloodworth (filter wizard)
Alice Braga would play Phoebe Velasquez (filter wizard and Demetrious’ girlfriend)
Daniela Ruah would play Kelly McVeigh (Wes’s depressed girlfriend).
Cote de Pablo would play Sheila Victor (Vice President of Stein Energy)
Ariel Winter would play Chloe Turner (homeless teenager)
Victoria Justice would play Ariel Tavares (homeless teenager and Chloe’s best friend)
The closing song would be “Killing in the Name of” by Rage Against the Machine.
Since “Confessions of a Schizophrenic Savage” isn’t technically a novel, but a collection of rock songs, I’m going to approach this a little differently. The opening song would be “62” (the first poem from that book)
Ivan Moody would be the dirty vocalist.
Shaun Morgan would be the clean vocalist.
Wes Borland would be one of the guitarists.
Barry Stock would be the other guitarist.
Flea would be the bassist.
Christian Lorenz would be the keyboardist.
Joe Nunez would be the drummer.
The Ultimate Warrior (R.I.P.), Cesaro, Brock Lesnar, Big E, Bray Wyatt, Erick Rowan, Luke Harper, and Roman Reigns would all be security detail.
The closing song would be “You’re Not a Gangster” (the final poem in the book)
This doesn’t count as a book since it’s only three pages long, but here’s one for the story I did this week, “Never Hit a Lady”. The opening song would be “Evil Ways (Justice Mix)” by Blues Sacareno.
Ethan Suplee would play Desmond Andrews.
Peter Greene would play Seth Franklin.
Pauley Perette would play Laurie Bryan.
Lira Angel would play Emma Williams.
The closing song would be “Never Coming Home” by Crossfade.
This book-to-movie game is so much fun that I’m going to do it again. In this case, my book (more like work in progress) is “Fireball Nightmare, Pt. 1: This Is Violence”. The opening credits theme would be “K.C.S.” by Soulfly.
Dave Batista would play Deus Shadowheart (forest-dwelling barbarian and servant of Vahd).
Angie Harmon would play Gayle Rinehart (religious paladin).
Zoltan Bathory would play Jan Nexus (religious monk).
Ronda Rousey would play Sandi Trent (religious cowgirl).
Famke Jansen would play Diva Shadowheart (Deus’ barbaric sister).
The Big Show would play Rudiger Seran (moronic lumberjack).
Gary Busey would play Dr. Scott Cain (perverted scientist).
Bruce Dern would play Dr. Herman Stan (perverted scientist).
Max Cavalera would play Shawn Takuma (dreadlocked psychopath).
Tuomas Holopainen would play Syphid (scythe fighter).
The end credits theme would be “Burn MF” by Five Finger Death Punch.
If The Darkness Within Us got made into a movie:Opening song: I'm Moving On, Rascal Flatts
Cast:
--Dakota Fanning as Peyton
--Evangeline Lilly as Glory
--Kellan Lutz as Ghost
--John Cusack as Kodi
--Michelle Rodriguez as Blood
--Julia Roberts as Sin
--Nicolas Cage as Michael
Playlist:
--Radioactive by Imagine Dragons
--Clarity by Zedd
--One by Metallica
--She Will Be Loved by Maroon 5
--Killing Me Softly by The Bee Gees
Ending Song:
--Stronger, Kelly Clarkson
It’s been ages since this thread has been used and you all know by now how I feel about abandoned threads. I’ll breathe some life in this thread with the second act of Fireball Nightmare called Valley of the Damned (even though I’ve only written one chapter so far). The opening song will be “She Is My Sin” by Nightwish.
Tamina Snuka will play Kat Sexton (human warrior).
Roman Reigns will play Brutus Warcry (human barbarian).
Liv Tyler will play Darthania Gaveston (elf wizard).
Gene Snitsky will play Agrusk Xis (orc barbarian).
Tony Cox will play Tazz Breakneck (goblin barbarian).
Orlando Bloom will play Orlando Deathkick (elf monk).
If he was still alive, Heath Ledger would play Flip-Flip (android clown).
Kia Stevens will play Leela Guerrero (human barbarian).
James Earl Jones will provide the voice of Vahd (fiery god).
The closing song will be “To Kill a Stranger” by Fozzy.
I used to think having my books being made into movies would be cool, but more and more, I think I'll pass. I have a very specific image of my characters in my head, and I would be too difficult to please if a movie was made.
Now that Fireball Nightmare has been officially cancelled and Watch You Burn is my current work in progress, I think I should do a movie what-if for the latter. The opening song will be “Burn” by Three Days Grace.
Seth Rollins will play Mario Bryan.
Emma Watson will play Jessica Harley.
Matt Hill will provide the voice for Gryace.
Kevin Nash will play Austin Carlo.
Linda Miles will play Cameron Gillespie.
Tony Sampson will provide the voice for Sage Thunderbreath.
Ethan Suplee will play Brad.
Jennifer Lawrence will play Terri.
Chris O’Dowd will play Mr. Johnson.
Megan Fox will play Cherry.
The closing song will be “Burn” by Papa Roach.
Funny that I found this thread, I've often thought about what it would be like if my fantasy series, 'Reaper,' was turned into a film. I've already decided (long ago) on some things. Opening song/movie's theme song: 'Demons' by Imagine Dragons.
I like to think that my three main characters, Darius, Peyton, and Eve, would all be unknown or little-known actors. Although, if I had to pick anyone for the protagonist, Darius, I might pick Tequan Richmond, who played TJ Ashford on General Hospital.
Benjamin Myles: Josh Holloway (Sawyer from 'Lost')
Danielle Voss: Helena Bonham Carter
God/Elohim: Mandy Patinkin
Fate: Meryl Streep (potentially)
There are lots of other characters, but I couldn't even begin to pick actors for them all.
Closing song, I don't know... maybe 'No Fear the Reaper' by Blue Oyster Cult, just because of "Reaper."
My unpublished manuscript would be a TV series, not a film. Too many sequels in the making. Plus, then I could really concentrate on developing characters and relationships. The audience could really get a sense of who they are and the dynamics of the coven. Because I would write the script, of course, haha.As far as actors, I would want newbies: all unknown faces. I would want my story to start someone's acting career!
Music, wow this is hard. So many songs have influenced my writing. Hmm, since I'm talking about my sci-fi/fantasy novel here, I'd have to pick as an opening "Attack" by 30 Seconds To Mars.
There would be plenty of songs by Coheed & Cambria, AWOLNATION, The Brilliant Green and Breaking Benjamin throughout the show.
And in closing, "Pass Slowly" by Seether. Yes, I'd like each episode to end on a sad note.
I'm really into anime and I used to make AMVs. I HAD to make a couple using Dear Agony and Pass Slowly. Actually, I used a lot of alternative music for my AMVs. Once in a while, I go to Youtube and rewatch those old vids and sigh while my heart leaps to my throat. Those lyrics... get me so bad.
I'm going over to You Tube right now to check out "Pass Slowly". The only Seether album I have right now is their 2002-2013 greatest hits.
If you like anime, check out my channel, just type in naturechild02 in the search. it should pop up. wow, i haven't made a vid on that channel in a while.
I watched one of Seether's new vids the other day. it was hilarious!!
Okay, I'm off to bed. have to get up in a few hours to take kids to school. Night!
I love that someone recently discovered this older post. If your book was a movie....
What song would open the movie?
What actors and actresses would you cast as your main characters?
What would the last song be?
Anything else you want to include?
Since I write mainly satire, my book If I Can't Wave Like a Princess I Must Be a Loser would probably be a series like Orange is the New Black, but with less criminal activity.
The opening song would have to be Puddle of Mudd's Psycho.
Playing Kat Nove would be Aubrey Plaza.
Richard would be Crispin Glover.
The rest of the characters/real people play pretty minor roles, but in a film I think Norman Reedus should play all the male parts.
The closing song would be I Want to Look and Feel Younger by Brad Sucks.
AS far as published works, IRISH SQUEEZE would be a fun movie.I'd get Charlize Theron to play Melissa
Mila Kunis would play Riley
Who to play Robert? Hmm, I suppose I would pick Chris Hemsworth because, well, damn!
James Franco would be a great Joey
As far as music, I could really hear Lady Antebellum's "Downtown" or "Hey Bartender" as the opening and "Nothing I've Ever Known" by Bryan Adams as the closing song.
There is a lot of dubstep and dance music in the story but it is romance after all so the closing music should be meaningful.
I'm gonna revive this topic!I always imagined my published novella Divine Intervention opening with the tune Salsoul Nugget (If You Wanna) by M&S Presents The Girl Next Door. I pictured the girl Jimmy is spying on dancing to it in her room.
With it's original ending I imagined HK Farewell By Placebo., but that's a little downbeat for the final ending.
Shows you that I started writing that story many years ago!!!
Who would play Jimmy? Jay Baruchel in his heyday. Now? That's tough! Maybe Dave Franco.
Frank would be Matt Ryan.
Arthur would be Christopher Mintz-Plasse all the way.
Pixie would be Analeigh Tipton.
Vanessa would be someone obvious like Kate Upton, or perhaps a bitchy young actress like Bella Thorne.
I guess the movie would have to be American. Grr.
For Illuminated Vol. I (Trial & Error):Vaxtor- Joe Manganiello
Katie- Bonnie Wright
Jackie Sapphire- Tina Majorino
King Zyne Xavier- Jon Cor
Edmond Vale- Viggo Mortensen
Jessica- Natalie Martinez
Maria- Nina Dobrev
Tommy- Michael Cera
Cynthia Vale- Jenna Elfman
(Volume II would add Chace Crawford as Danny Owens and Cillian Murphy--in a ridiculously long blonde wig--as the dark wizard Levariat.)
Opening song- Pearl Jam, "Last Kiss"
Ending credits song- Smashing Pumpkins, "Cherub Rock"
Other stuff:
Zyne's hair and eyebrows would be bleached even though the actor is already blonde, because Zyne has naturally platinum hair.
