Imagine a world where characters can leap out of the pages of books and enter the real world, and people can enter the world of a book and influence its outcome. This is the premise of The Eyre Affair, where an alternate universe for literature exists. Thursday Next resides in this alternative universe, and leads an interesting life as a special operations agent that investigates literary crimes. This book was highly imaginative, especially some of Thursday's uncles inventions. It was also fun to ponder how some famous written works could be changed. I give it 3.5 stars.

Melissa (littlemel64) | 45 comments I've no classes this summer and spending time catching up on my fun reading and my goodreads. I read this book a few years back and have since read one of the sequels (which wasn't quite as good). I loved the idea of a world where literature and reading (rather than celebrities and gossip) were such a focus of the culture.
