I thought they did a pretty good job of keeping true to the source material. Of course, the book is always better ;) This isn't one of my favourite Fitzgerald stories despite how popular it is. It brings a lot to the table about what aging and experience means in our society, and what it would be like to get younger instead of the dreaded getting older. Maybe it wouldn't be better that way after all.(she answers 8 years after the original post was made)
