Emily recognized the girl walking towards her from a photo they'd shown her back at The Base. She jogged to meet her.
"You're late. And sweaty," Emily grimaced. It was just her luck to get a partner who was completely exhausted. Now things just had a greater chance of going wrong. She took out a map they'd given her before she left, of the high-security building they were supposed to steal a folder of documents from. The building was on the other side of town.
"You walked here?" she inquired.

"It's pretty routine. Break-in to the Owen Center, get to the President's office, grab a file that should be sitting in a the top drawer of his desk, the drawer may be locked but nothing that a bobby pin can't outsmart, and sneak out. We've got blue prints of the building, a floorplan with all of the alarms marked, and a schedule of the guard's rounds. It should be easy-peasy," Emily rattled off the directions, and by the time she'd finished her annoyance at this girl had simmered down, and so had her anxiety at screwing up the mission. It really was simple.
"Well, I guess we're just going to have to hoof it. I'm Emily, by the way."

Emily and Luna started walking in the direction of the Owen Center, in companionable silence. After about half an hour they were halfway there, and Emily's feet were throbbing. She finally yielded and removed them, now in her bare feet, as she muttered a low string of curses.
"These boots are great for sneaking about inside without making noise, but not so much for walking long distances," Emily said by way of explanation, tucking the soft leather boots under her arm.

"More of a solo agent?" asked Emily, her interest piqued. It wasn't every day that she heard about another young spy that she hadn't encountered before. And let's face it, she was imagining what his face might look like under the helmet. Dangerous guys were her type.
Emily blushed, ashamed that Luna had been able to read her thoughts so easily.
"Yeah, maybe. It's always good to meet other spies, to, you know, discuss techniques and compare strategies and such," Emily said unconvincingly, crossing her arms self-conciously

"How long ago was this?" asked Emily softly, she couldn't help but feel that she was invading Jasper's privacy.
"That's awful," said Emily, imagining the boy and his broken heart. She wished that she could meet him, and maybe heal that heart, but then scoffed mentally at herself. Since when was Emily April Donovan a bloody hopeless romantic? That was never going to happen, if he was anything like Luna said. And she hadn't even experienced it first-hand. She was glad to see the lights of the Owen Center in the not so far off distance. A distraction.
"Okay, here we are. Time to come up with a game plan."
"Okay, here we are. Time to come up with a game plan."
"Like you said earlier, if we cut through the delivery bay, it's pretty low security, and get into the vents through there. As long as we don't get lost, we can crawl through to the southeast stairwell, Base has dealt with the security cameras in that sector, go into the President's office through the fire escape, and get out the same way," Emily said.
She removed two black rose pins with little rubies in the center from her pocket, pinning one to the strap of her tank top, and handing one to Luna.
"It sends live-feed audio back to the base," Emily said, "and also serves as a walkie-talkie for us. Just push down on the ruby to while you talk, and let go once you're done."

"Let's do this!" said Emily, and then burst out laughing, "Oh god, I sound like a doofus. Well, we should stick together for the first part, and then I'll do a sweep of the bottom floor of the building while you go get the files. Base wanted me to set up some microphones and surveillance cameras."
Emily smiled, "Good luck!" And she started making her way towards the delivery bay, slinking in the shadows and motioning for Luna to follow.
Finally, they reached the vent. Emily slipped on her boots again, scowling as they brushed over her blisters. She removed a small screw driver from her pocket and had removed the vent cover in less than 20 seconds. She gave Luna a 'thumbs up' sign and placed the vent cover gently against the wall, and waved Luna in with her right hand.

Emily was surprised to see another girl dressed in black.
"Who are you? Did base send you?" Emily asked, hand reaching into her back pocket to grasp her gun.

Emily whispered the same, shot a glance at the strange girl who had just appeared from nowhere, and followed Luna in.

"Calm down Agent Emily, the base did send me to supervise. I'm Agent Lola"
Emily checked the schedule of the guard's rounds, shining her penlight on it. They had a good half hour before the next one recorded, but Emily wanted to play it safe. So she setting up the mini-cameras as quickly as possible in strategic places.
With two people at work, it took much less work and time than anticipated. Only 10 minutes had gone by, and already they were done. Now all there was left to do was wait for Luna. And then walk home. Ouch. She had an idle thought, "Lola, did you come here by car?" she whispered.
"Thank you," Emily smiled at her, "So why did base send you, exactly? I was told that I was being sent on a solo mission with Luna. You're not a veteran supervisor, are you?"
"But you're so young! Usually the veterans are at least 22. Uggh, and Base promised that I wouldn't need to be baby-sitted this time." Emily sighed.
"It's fine. Not really your fault that Base decided that I couldn't cut it out on my own. What kind of special experiences does it take to become a vet supervisor?" Emily did love a good story.
Layla was in the presidents office when another girl in black snuck in through the vents. Layla works alone, mainly since base had problems with her getting emotionely attatched to her partners. She was assigned to get files from the bottom drawer. She knew there was another mission here tonight, but she didn't think they would collide. "Hi." She whispered as the girl dropped from the vent system.
"You have a mission, I have mission. We weren't supposed to see each other... That's a mistake on their part I guess... Hi I'm Layla. You must be Luna. Your here with your partner Emily. Don't look at me like I'm crazy! It's my job to know things like that." She whispered back.
"She was mine..." Layla trailed off. The thought made her want to cry. "You must be some girl to be close to him, especially to be his best friend."
"Thats not true..." She scowled in the dark. "Come on, we better get out of here. You wanna go down the side of the building, or go through the vents? I choose building."
"Ok. Do you have your rappling hook, or do you need to go with me?" She asked, already knowing the answer.
Layla laughed. "ok. Grab on." The two girls rappeled down the building. When they landed, they were greeted by Emily and Lola.
"You guys need a ride back?" Layla didn't really want to part with her new found aquaintence just yet.
"Or what? Whatever the 'Or' is, tell me thats it." She whispered. She turned around to gaze at the parked motorcycle infront of them.
Layla felt the other girls move, but she couldn't move a muscle in her body. She was staring at the person in front of her.
She ran. "Who is that?" She asked while running. Although she already knew the answer, she wanted it clarified.
"I really wish that wasn't true." She groaned. She stopped dead in her tracks. She let the 1 guy on the bike catch up. 1 guy. Thats it. Why was she running. The guy got off the bike. Layla charged and kicked the guy, knocking him unconcious. She heard another motorcycle stop. This time she DEFINETLY knew it was him. She grabbed Lunas hand and made their way back to her car.
"There was only one. This type of thing is my specialty. Ask your friend, he knows..." She trailed off and they got in the car. "Do you know why I work alone?"
"One, for the same reason he does. Becuase we lost her. Two, because I become to emotionally attached to my male partners. Base got sick of it. I knew him like he was my brother. I liked him in a different way though. I knew he liked her, and her him. I didn't want to interfere... That's how he would know. Like it's my job to know all agents, that was his too." She got quiet.
