When I became Goth/Punk, I knew that I'd be an outcast. Some of my friends are understanding, others think something's really messed up with my head. Others . . well . . some people just can't see difference, or tolerate it. Some people think when someone or something is different or out of the ordinary, they want to label it or comment on it or express it as something. In our case, we're seen weird becuase we do things in another way. Nothing is really wrong about being different or dark or creative or being a part of what you wanna be. It's just . . some people can't understand, and they want to express their own opinions on something that's new or unusual to them. I'll ignore about the comments that make their way to me, or the rumors. Some people just are . . well . . people? It hurts when it happens, I know . . we just have to put up with it sometimes. It sucks. The other day, a guy walked up to me and asked, "What's your problem, you little freak? What's your problem, huh?"I ignore anything, if possible, but it eats at me. I agree with you, Quietbutloud: Why can't we be left alone?
This is just my opinion.
i don't agree with us being mostly stereotyped as uninteresting/mean...in chick lit., any emo/goth characters are portrayed as misunderstood, but having amazing personalities....
however, the other stereotype does exist, although i don't see it as much...i don't really give a shit about what other people think of me.
Ah yes, clothes. Isn't there at least one Goth who can't clam they've needed to "straighten out their outfit" before going to school? :)Yeah, some parents get in the way. I wonder why a lot of parents won't let them participate in such a wonderful subculture though . .
i know what you mean, sometimes i have to, as you say "straiten out my outfit" cause my mom doesn't think something is approiate to wear.
*sigh* Yeah .. I got stopped for wearing one of those spiked dog collars around my right wrist. Thing is, I bet it would take forever to puncture someone's skin with my spiked dog collar! Alwell .. hafta wait till I'm 18 ... then the fun begins >:)I still try to be the best I can when I'm around people: I can be rebellious, but sweet ;)
haha same but my mom's fav color is black yet she don't want me to wear none of it...it pissses me off so much.
my mother makes me wear bright colors everyday and it makes me so frickin mad, but i just consider myself to be scene instead.
A lot of my friend's parents won't let them wear black or anything "Gothic" -- some of them are forced to attend one of those preppy Christian girls' club -- not that I have anything wrong with Christianity, I don't mind going to services once every few years myself -- but I heard that it's awful. My parents gave me a lot of privileges that my peers didn't have . . for that, I'm glad . . but I guess it helps when your father was once Goth too. ;)This one girl in one of my classes thinks I'm (insert heavy emphasis on the proceeding word) evil. I try to act especially kind around her, but it seems like I'm poisonous or something. You can't really convince someone that you're not "evil" when they don't wanna believe you :/
wow what an idiot i don't really have problems with that stuff except this one girl who thinks im this like weird girl who can't wear colors.....
Huh .. alwell. It interests me, how the media looks at us. But then again, I have to remember that we are the odd, "different" (gasp) people .. or maybe not even "being" people, in some cases. What's wrong with being different? ;)
It seems like learning new things, thinking a different or new way, or being something different is bad. Sigh ..
Stereotyping and labelling are used by ignorance and fear to face the unknown. And it's always been that way with people. It's only but human.
that's what they think at first....but then when you meet one their sweet and caring....but maybe not all...i don't know
Some of the comments I have been given:"Hey! Goth girl!"
"It's not Halloween,"
"Ugh!"
"why do you look like that?"
"You look like a/an _____"
The main reaction I get is when a group of girls pass by me. They'll look at each other, and start laughing. I allow people to ask questions, but every time I reply with "yes" to "are you Goth?," they follow with "Are you Emo?"
People are scared of what they don't know. People have been treating me nicer after some found out about my sexual orientation (bixesual), but it seems very deliberate.
You learn not to take comments personally. And because I decided to keep my head up, I now have a loving sweetheart. He's not Goth, but to find consolation in someone else .. is amazing.
I may not know all of you, but it is quite a blessing to be yourself and be true to yourself .. even if the community, the people, or the place around you refuses it. :)
weelll, it's better than living in a really poor run down neighbourhood- in a rich neighbourhood you can freak people out, there are nice houses (usually) and AWESOME for halloween. :D
Well, I mean, I'm obviously glad my family is better rather than worse off, but on the other hand, my parents are the sort who want to fit in, and that means having a prep for a daughter >.< So it's quite annoyingful....And I never go trick-or-treating here, all my friends live in a different neighborhood xD
I'd be cooked meat if I was a rebel :PMy parents are comfortable with what I am. A shame other parents don't see such potential in "alt" subcultures ..
my parents are totally awesome. I don't really like to rebel against them, but I do my grandparents who are fairly conservative. I listen to the same music ( pretty much as my parents) and have generally the same ideas about things.
My grandmother (my only grandparent) must of had a heart attack reading through my wishlist. The music, posters of idols .. eessh, sometimes I feel bad for her :P
Nope. I had plush cats and pigs, but that was about it ..I was more of a give-me-paint-or-crayons-then-I'm-happy kind of kid. Constructive things were more up my alley.
cool. Yeah, I'm super- artsy too, I've been drawing and making comics and writing stories since for ever. I would always make my littlest pet shop (little figurines of cats and dogs) toys have a murder mystery and need to solve it.
nice :). I have a deviantart.....my user is rowanshadowcat is you wanna look at my stuff so far. I do a lot of watercolour and i draw in black brush artist pens. I draw slightly cartoony animals, but still realistic, and I mainly draw cats.
Has it ever struck you that you can see anyone as a cat? o_0I would have a devianart .. but my scanner isn't hooked up. I'm not sure if it works either. I promise that you guys will be the first to see any DIY pics -- probably under the rather small DIY thread we have. ;)
