Yes! I got to go hear a reading by Chaon at my local indie - very interesting! It was clear he couldn't say too much without spoiling twists in the story. I have to finish it quick, because I'm giving my dad a copy for Christmas!
Has anyone read anything by him as yet. I see he has written 4 books. He flew low on my radar screen.
That's what happened with me, too!!!Publishers' Weekly just came out with their 2009 list, and there he was... top ten!!!
I'm so glad I saw this thread--I just read his short story "The Bees" last night and was utterly freaked out and so naturally now, I need to read everything he's ever written! To anyone who's read his books before...which would you recommend I begin with?
I finally started 'Await Your Reply' - the writing is really good. It reminds me of Ishiguro. He's also really, really good at describing the scene.
Yeah - it has that easy ebb & flow of scenes and characters that reminds me of Ishiguro. So far the story is heavy on the characters, but I think their stories are going to start intertwining soon.
Someone told me that Santa was getting me 'Await Your Reply', I can't wait! I also just got a copy of
Wow, I meant to come back and comment once I finished Await Your Reply but the holidays snuck up on me!It was AWESOME! Wow. Sadly I can't say too much without revealing the twists and secrets. It's fun to have a thrilling, twisty book with amazing writing and treating the characters in a complex way. It was so good I gave my signed copy away for Christmas. :)

as of today, it has made the TOP TEN LISTS of all the major newspapers (New York Times, Los Angeles, Salon, Literary Guild, etc., etc.) including Amazon, as one of the BEST NOVELS OF 2009!!!
Mr. Chaon, may I offer my congratulations and sincere thanks for your tremendous accomplishment. It is really wonderful to belong to a group of people that are as gifted and talented as the people we find in Goodreads.
And, yes, the hardcover edition is sitting on my night stand right now!!! I can't wait to start reading!!!
