Andrea wrote: "Great idea, can we copy you?..hehehe"sure - just go to tickerfactory.com and look towards the bottom of the main page for tickers related to # of items like books. You can create your own combination of background and "moving" object.
1. The Shipping News, by E. Annie Proulx. I gave it 2/5 stars - not sure what all the fuss was about when it won a Pulitzer.
352 pages
Kay if you don't want to do a new message every time you change your ticker, just go to the original one and click on edit and you can just change the original one you posted.

Good to know I don't need to worry about reading it. I've heard of others who felt similarly.

This one has been on my shelf for awhile (in fact, it is staring at me right now). I've heard SUCH mixed things about it..

Hi Kay,I remember you commenting on one of the books I read last year: Puhdistus by Sofi Oksanen. It wasn't available yet in English but I found out it's being published in English this spring. There's an excerpt here if you're still interested :)

Susanna,
Thank you so much! I just pre-ordered it. I'll look forward to reading it this year - sounds like it will be quite emotional and dramatic.

Oh wow! I hope you enjoy it! :)

"My Life as a Torpedo Test Target", by Bill Myers, 3/5 stars.
128 pages

I've decided my son's books are getting long enough to "count" - at least, the ones that are over 100 pages. We read this one together. He laughed over much of it and still learned the dangers of greed.
4.
"Dust", by Martha Grimes, 4/5 stars. I would have given this one 5 stars if it weren't for the fact that it ended in a cliffhanger. I like books with real endings!

Kay, Loved John Paul II, I need to add this to my tbr list!
JanB wrote: "Kay, Loved John Paul II, I need to add this to my tbr list!">Jan, overall it really is a good book. I don't know much about the Catholic church, but I always admired this pope. I learned a lot. The author does go off on a couple of tangents that aggravated me - and at one point she talks about some of the problems the church faced and whether they were in any way the pope's fault. (She does give him a share of the blame on one issue - more from the standpoint of how his background would not have him to even imagined such a thing). But the book is a loving portrait of her "spiritual father", as well as Peggy's own spiritual journey.

Kay, I'm glad to see that you loved the help. I just gave it to my mom as a gift for her birthday. Now I'm waiting for her to read it so I can get my hands on it!

True confession: I've been known to buy a book for my mom, and then actually read it before I wrap it up for her.
