Violaceous | 4 comments The YA shelves are a bit daunting with all the beautiful cover art and new authors. I'm an adult but I love reading YA stuff since it's the genre I'm hoping to write for one day. I'm one of the oddballs who isn't a Stephenie Meyer fan but here's some stuff I've read recently and liked:

-Thirsty and Feed by M.T Anderson

-Scott Westerfeld's Uglies and Midnighters series

-Tithe by Holly Black

And I picked up Cassandra Clare's City of Bones but I haven't started it yet. More suggestions?

Caitlín K (inkmage) | 9 comments I think most of these are fantasy, with some cross-overs. I only enjoy a little bit of sci-fi.

The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer

The Maximum Ride Series by James Patterson

The Blue Girl by Charles de Lint

and The Heir Series by Cinda Williams Chima

Brandon | 3 comments Ones I have really enjoyed, and forgot to add to my list... :D

The Sterkarm Handshake by Susan Price

The Death Collector by Justin Richards

Double Helix by Nancy Werlin

Thnner Than Thou by Kit Reed

Shock Point by April Henry

Also, my kids here at work have been reading Sleeper Code by Tom Sniegoski like it's going out of style... might be another one to check out.

Atomicgirl | 11 comments I've just started reading it but "The Silenced" by James DeVita is appealing. It takes its inspiration from the non-violent resistance group in Nazi Germany, the White Rose.

The Maximum Ride series by James Patterson has been popular. It describes the plight of genetically engineered children who have both human and avian dna (the kids have wings and fly).

"Princess of Neptune" by Quentin Dodd is a funny book where the heroine is whisked off to Neptune to enter a intergalatic beauty contest.

"His Majesty's Dragon" by Naomi Novik is a good steampunk novel.

"Percy Jackson and the Olympians" by Rick Riordan is another popular series with a waiting list.

I like the Terry Pratchett books where Tiffany Aching is featured, like "A Hat Full of Sky."

is the Host in the series, or a separate book?

message 7: by Beth (new)

Beth (bibliocat4) | 9 comments Host is a separate book - it is being marketed for adults but is suitable for teens who love Stephenie Meyer.
