Here's a place to put suggestions, recommendations, comments, requests whatever you want to call it - about what you'd like to see in the group.

I just noticed that our group membership decreased by one - from 57 to 56 members. This is the first time this has happened that I know of (not including in the very beginning when Matt R. had some technical problem with his groups - remember that Matt R. - I thought I had written something that offended you and we were just getting started :-)

Anyway, I am realistically minded enough to know that we are going to have some people that leave the group for personal reasons. Perhaps they just don't have the time to participate, they are leaving goodreads, whatever. Life Happens.

I just want to make it perfectly clear that nobody is required to add comments, vote on group reads or polls, start new discussions, or read along each month. You can participate anyway and anytime that you want. Maybe that is just following the discussions and reading other people's comments - that's fine. You are still welcome in Koontzland, no matter your activity level.

If you ever have a concern about the Koontzland - Dean Koontz group. Please either post a comment here or send a message to any moderator. We know we can't make everyone happy but we'll sure do what we reasonably can :-) Thanks everyone! You make Koontzland Awesome!

message 3: by Matt R. (new)

Matt R. (matt2009) | 202 comments Yes, the technical problem gave me a headache but luckily it was resolved quickly, kinda strange. Anyways, good point Dustin, all are welcome, whether you actively participate or not. Hopefully you all decide to stay here and if you have any suggestions, just let us know.

Well, since you brought it up... If it's okay with Matt R., it's okay with me. I actually mentioned making you a co-moderator to Martin in a message yesterday, but Martin has still been having computer issues. Let me message Matt R. about it.

Yay! We will be the Koontz Quadumvirate! :-)

I've got to log off now but hopefully Matt R. will be okay with it & will contact you about it :-) We just want to keep some control with the group, you know - not have everyone as moderator but also have people that are active in the group and active on goodreads in general as moderators...Talk to you later :-)

FYI
I formatted the bold text at the top of our group info to be kind of a current event area - announcing that we're nominating, voting, reading & discussing etc.

The picture in the group description can be a place to put upcoming releases as they are announced.

Okay gotta go.

Sorry to leave things like that. I do think Jason is a great addition. I always intended to add him once he joined based on his past activity and devotion to Koontz. I think if any more moderators are added - current moderators need to discuss & approve :-)

Lori (barfield) Hey my computer almost crashed. It started going crazy about 30 minutes ago. Good thing I got a computer genius for a friend who only lives 3 minutes away. He tore down my mail box pulling in the drive, but hey my computer's fine right. Like I said it's good to have friends. My buddy's name is Jreey Friend. I am not shitting you, his last name is Friend.

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm in the mood for a change of scenery so soon I'll be switching The Fear Nothing Graphic Novel picture in our group description to Lost Souls :-) It looks like the Fear Nothing cover has Chris Snow sitting on the toilet and I'm sick of it :-) The book has been out now for 2 weeks - still waiting for my library to get a copy in.

I was going to switch the pics today but all of the groups in goodreads have had a little glitch - nobody can edit the group settings or create a new group :-)

Let us hope he is not straight out of the Oates short story Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?: Selected Early Stories.
For anyone who hasn't done so, it is a very worthwhile read, and short.

I'm surprised to hear someone like book 3 of the Frankenstein series the best. Book 3 was a total disappointment to me and it felt to me like Dean was hurrying to finish it up so people would quit bugging him about writing the third installment. I even told my sister not to bother. Now I better tell her to give it a chance if she wants since some people disagree with me. I liked the first and second book, but the third one just didn't seem as good to me.

I like them in the order of 3--1--2. Of course, there are things I don't like about it.

Hi Lori, Umm good question :-) I see you noticed. We don't know what's going on with Martin. At the beginning of the year he was having computer problems and wasn't able to get online very often. He has not logged into Goodreads at all for over 2 months, so I haven't had any communication from him. The other moderators & I decided to remove him as Moderator, so I did that this morning. Hopefully, he'll be back sometime :-)

Lori (barfield) How odd. You'd think he would have access to a computer somewhere. Library, friends, somewhere. Hope he's alright. You get used to hearing from certain people on here and if it's been awhile you tend to get to worrying about them.

We agree :-) The Odd Thomas Movie has been made and we are all anticipating the release. Dean Koontz has been very impressed with the film himself so that says a lot.

Sorry, I read your comment wrong. I thought it said "'cause I'm not really into all that disturbing stuff" :-)
I think Mr. Murder is quite good :-) it ranks in my top ten. My top four are: Life Expectancy, By The Light of the Moon, Relentless and Cold Fire

If you want disturbing: I suggest The Voice of the Night :-)

I just wanted to remind everyone or bring it to your attention that this thread exists. You are welcome to share your suggestions to improve Koontzland. Please feel welcome to share your ideas or ask questions.

As a personal favor, I would request that any suggestions and ideas are provided in a kind and clear manner so that I do not feel personally under attack.

Please know that I will continue to do my best to keep Koontzland organized and friendly. My co-moderator, Jason of the Borg has not been online this summer due to personal reasons. If you are interested in becoming a co-moderator - yes, a position may be available. Feel welcome to message me :-)

I have never claimed to be a Koontz expert and I don't have all day to spend online. Goodreads, and Koontzland in particular have been fun times for me - a way for me to wind down, relax and connect with like-minded friends - I intend to keep it that way. No one is paying me to do this and it does take some time to keep up on everything. There will be times when due to my work schedule, you may not see me for a while.

One thing I plan to to at some point is create a thread that would help orient new members so they can familiarize themselves with Koontzland easier. I would like to explain that not all topics show on the group homepage (especially in the Koontz's Many Stand - Alone Novels folder) and how we try to avoid duplicate threads. Group members are welcome to create new topics- we just ask that you check that there isn't already a thread on that topic. .... Anyway, I'll get to that eventually.

Thank you for being with us here in Koontzland. I appreciate your support.

Karen B. (raggedy11) | 884 comments I have no idea where to put this so I am hoping Dustin will help me and put it in the right place.

Is anyone else also a Stephen King fan? Well I found several things that I find "coincidental". Often books are recommended with the following "For fans of Stephen King and Dean Koontz" and I have wondered about the relationship between the two.

First I found a book where one author wrote about himself ... "No, I don't live in Maine and don't write about Maine. I don't own a golden retriever and I don't include dogs in my books."

Last month because I didn't get our October read book but I had ordered "Doctor Sleep" by SK (which I enjoyed even more than "The Shining"}
and I ran across a reference to a villainous character comparing him to the villain in Koontz's "What the Night Knows". I took that as a real nod to DK from SK.
Then when I finished that book I decided to read an "oldie but goodie" after seeing parts of the movie being shown the week before Halloween, so I re-read IT which was one of my first King books. And I don't know how I missed it the first I read it in the 80's but don't you know it ... one of the mean (in fact meanest) caretakers at the insane asylum is named Koontz? That cracked me up. I am sure each of the writers knows his name is being linked with the other's but I found SK's references interesting.
