To anyone who believes that books like HP or The Twilight Series is wrong, please do not take offense. This is a discussion not a way to make fun of you!

What I am wondering, is why are some books(pretty much all fiction) considered bad, evil,or going aganist religion(particularly Christianity). So please tell me if you consider the following books "evil" and if so why. If not then why do you think people dislike them SO much?

1. Harry Potter
2. Twlight
3. Percy Jackson

I have run out of ideas! And just 4 your info I have read all of the mentioned series' and enjoyed most of them beyond belief!

Please give me some more books I could add to our list! If you disagree with this topic, please do not quit the group, but just write me a message or comment, and we will get it all worked out!

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) Umm. I was reading Heir Apparent and one of the main focus's is on a group of 'Anti Fantasy' Protestors, who believe that fantasy books, (all) video games, and movies over a G rating should be banned. so in a way, you can add all fantasy books to the list.

HOLY CRAP!! thats all I can say!

message 5: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) i know. it was a good book, and the protesters were only part of the book

yeah well, i mean have u every read a book that u thought was truly aganist religion or evil?

message 7: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) obv not. *lightbulb* i know! the His Dark Materials books! ((Golden Compass, Subtle Knife, and Amber Spyglass))

message 8: by Amy (new)

Amy | 76 comments Mod
really? i never read those! i started too, but then the head in a block of ice, through me off. so i just quit reading it! how bad is the book, from 1-10, ten being the worse.

message 9: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) they aren't bad, they just have some atheist themes in them. golden compass isn't bad, just has some bad press, but the rest are the the ones who have the atheist themes semi-largely.

message 10: by Amy (new)

Amy | 76 comments Mod
yeah a few kids who go to my school are atheists.

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) i knowz. i hope so atleast

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

I think that some people just don't have open minds, and refuse to let any thing into it.

message 19: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) exactly. now my mom still struggles with the Christianity and magic thing, but she doesn't make us not read what we want to.

WHAT?? im a die-hard evangelical Christian and i like all of those!!! in fact, my pastor did a sermon on the good-evil structure of HP and he's constantly using film clips to make his point! i think it might be the smaller fundamentalists who have a problem.
WHAT is the matter with PJ????? it promotes polytheism?

message 21: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) i guess. im a christian too, and all of those books are perfectly fine! in fact, Harry has some religious themes thrown in here and there!

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

i'm more atheist, though I was raised up christain

message 23: by Rebekah Faith (new)

♫♪Kristenn҉ (9533808008) I'm not religious, but I get presents at Christmas anyways.

Angelica(JonasBro's Fan!) I like Twilight but my parents dont.

that happens. lolz. are your relatives?

message 27: by ♫♪Kristenn҉ (new)

♫♪Kristenn҉ (9533808008) No. None of them.

message 28: by Lydia (new)

Lydia Well, I'm Christian. I think some religions don't like Percy Jackson because it has greek gods and demi-gods. Christians believe there is only one God, so I just think it's the other gods that got them.

message 29: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) yeah, most likely

message 31: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) but i guess it is america

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

It's fiction/fantasy though! It's called having an imagination!

Angelica(JonasBro's Fan!) Hahaha yeah i agree

i guess i can see why some people feel that way. but it really seems like a stretch. i dont really think any series out there is "evil" but there is 1 that i think is really really distasteful. and HP is *not* it.

message 35: by Lydia (new)

Lydia yes, but if you think it goes against your religion you could believe it's 'evil'

message 36: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) you could. though i myself dont see any problems in reading books about mythology because i know who my savior is and i only read the books for pleasure. magic is different. i dont think there is a dividing line and such between magic and christianity, but thats just me.

message 37: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) Lydia wrote: "yes, but if you think it goes against your religion you could believe it's 'evil'"

not exactly. as a Christian, just because I dont like something, doesnt automatically make it "evil." thats a word that people kind of throw around nowadays. i guess that if something blatantly goes against the Bible, that be considered "evil" though. im not really sure about that :D

message 38: by Lydia (new)

Lydia But I did say 'could'.

i know. i love all those books, and im christian

message 40: by Amy (new)

Amy | 76 comments Mod
i understand why some of the books may be considered evil, but none listed.

message 41: by Amy (new)

Amy | 76 comments Mod
i mean seriously. u have to be a total extremist.

message 42: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) definitely. i think its frustrating when people think that all Christians are like the extremists out there. i just wanna yell "I BELIEVE IN GOD AND IM TOTALLY NORMAL!!! I like Harry Potter, I eat 3 meals a day, and i use deoderant just like you do!" :D

message 43: by Amy (new)

Amy | 76 comments Mod
hahahah that deoderant part, was a nice touch i must say!

I know its like there are two kinds of conservatives, republicians and then people who are too conservative where they are extreme. the party shouldn't mix with the lifestyle.

message 45: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) im conservative, but not ultra. i mean, when it comes to politics, i try and do what the Bible says :P

you know what's funny? the "conservative" party in Australia (as in center-right in ideology) is called the Liberal Party :D that kinda confused me at first

message 46: by Amy (new)

Amy | 76 comments Mod
I am confused. hahah. yeah i am conservative, politics. mostly yeah, gay rights and stuff like that is kinda iffy tho.

message 47: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) wow you + me = the only 2 conservatives on this site, lol. im almost scared to admit that i

(shhhhhhhh)

message 48: by Amy (new)

Amy | 76 comments Mod
