A New Story
Sent From Above
Chapter One
As the wind blew Holly's fur, she shook. The coldness of winter was making her weaker than before. Her fur full of little pieces of frost, the cold making her eyes burn, and her whiskers quivering with excitement for the harsh winter to be over. The little black cat got onto her four legs, and started towards the fence of her yard. She jumped up, her tail swinging from side to side. She squealed as some the holly berries that grew on the fence pricked at her paws. That's one thing she hated more then the coldness. And she never gets let in until it's time for her owners to eat dinner. She hated them more then anything, that she would run away. And with no one watching, this would be the perfect opportunity. She lifted up her body, and sprang. She felt even more snow rush into her face then before. She shivered. She lifted her chin, feeling more free then ever. She didn't care about the coldness. She wasn't going to let a little snow stop her. She got into a nice running position, and dashed off into the woods. She lifted her nose into the air, scenting it for prey. She saw a mouse scurrying under a little tree bunch. Stupid little mouse, she thought. If I were you, I would be hiding in the tree so I wouldn't either get caught by a hungry animal, or so I wouldn't die of coldness. She crouched low down. She snuck forward, her paw-steps not bothering the little mouse. She closed in closer, and pounced. Holly grabbed the mouse and snapped its neck with one bite. She lifted her chin proudly, and went off to find some shelter.

When she found some shelter, the mouse looked like it was frozen.
"Oh, well," Holly said. "There's probably plenty more prey like that in the forest." So after she found her shelter, she went off hunting. But as she stepped a few rabbit-lengths away, she heard a voice speaking to her.
"Hey, you," the voice said. "Come here." The voice seemed like it was getting closer and closer.
Holly shivered. She didn't know there were other cats in the forest! "What do you want from me?" Holly said, moving in closer and closer. She whiskers and ears shook from not only the coldness, but from the nervousness inside of her.
The other cat looked clearer now. It was a brown tabby with a torn tail. "Is your name Holly?" asked the brown tabby, its eyes gleaming with wonder.
"Yes. Why?" Holly cocked her head to one side.
"Yes!The day has finally come, especially when we most needed it in the harsh winter!" the brown tabby said with excitement. "I am Pine. And soon you'll get to meet the others. But first, come inside our dens and let me tell you why we're so happy that you came into the forest." Pine flicked his tail. And with that, he padded off deeper into the forest.
Holly was following right behind, scared of what this cat might do with her. And how did he know her name in the first place? She followed until Pine stopped at a beautiful waterfall. It was the most beautiful thing besides prey she's ever seen in her life! "Whoa!" she blurted out. "You live HERE?"
Pine nodded with a smile on his face. "And you can if you help us." He walked to a little cave made out of fallen trees with Holly following right behind him.
Holly kept on turning her head from side to side at the beautiful sights before her very eyes. "What kind of help?" she asked, still admiring the beautiful place.
"Look over there," Pine said, pointing to a burnt place with his tail.
Holly gulped. It looked like this beautiful place was burnt by a fire before! "Did a fire come through here before?" She glanced another time at the place, and turned back to Pine.
"Yes... And it was a very rough time. We need you to help us by not making that happen. We get mysterious messages in things most unexpected. And when the fire happened, we saw a black cat was fighting off fire and water. Then there were holly berries by her. So when I first saw you sitting on your fence, I knew your were that cat who can help us."
Holly's eyes grew wide. "Me? But I barely even know how to hunt! How am I supposed to save a huge group of cats?!"
"Clan," Pine said.
"What?' Holly asked with her eyes wandering with wonder.
"We call ourselves a Clan since there are so man of us, and all of us are family. But we don't mention the Clan part very often since we got in a fight with another 'Clan' of cats. We still are a Clan, we just don't say so. And, Holly, all of us cats will take our share of training you. Hunting, fighting, defending, finding shelter. Stuff like that."
Holly's eyes stopped wandering. "But when will we start?" she asked curiously.
Pine laughed. "You sure ask a lot of questions. Each day a new cat will come and teach you something new. I will start today with fighting. Come and follow me to the fighting cave."
Holly followed, her paws prickling with excitement. She could finally help somebody!

"No! You've gotta put your paws out in front of you when you spring if you wanna knock your opponent over!" Pine was teaching Holly a move that only he discovered. He called it the Belly Blow. You put your paws out in front of you and strike at your opponent's belly, so he thought the name suited it.
Holly panted. "I'm trying really hard, but nothing's going right!" She tried again. As Pine put his head down in disappointment at Holly, she made her strike. She put her paws in front of her, and fell on Pine's belly.
"Good job, Holly!" Pine proudly said to her. "I think that's enough training for one day. Let's go take a break."
Holly smiled with pleasure, and trotted off back to this thing that looked like a fire ring. That's where the "Clan" puts their prey. She picked out a fat, juicy, scrumptious looking magpie. "I think I deserve this," she whispered to herself. She took it back to the cave where Pine was waiting for her. "Do you mind if I share this with you?" she asked Pine very nicely.
"What cat would be dumb enough to care?!" Pine licked his lips, and took a small bite out of the magpie. Then he shooed it over to Holly.
"Mmm," Holly said, taking her first bite of her first magpie. "You know, forest prey is much better than those little things that Flat-Teeth give you," Holly said, a smile growing on her face.
"I've never tried any of it," Pine sighed. "Is it gross?"
"Well, first," Holly started, "it tastes grosser than anything on the planet. It tastes as if somebody just got a can of polluted water and poured in into your mouth!" Holly angerly said.
Pine shivered at what Holly said. "You know, if Flat-Teeth make you eat that, we should make them eat something grosser than those! Have you ever seen them eating something and calling it something?" Pine asked with an evil smile on his face.
"Yeah," Holly started out her story with.
