I just started using one and love it. What do others think?

Nancy Carty Lepri (nancycl) | 5 comments I think a Kindle would be cool to have, but I'm old fashioned enough to want a hardcover book that I can hold in my hand, turn the pages, and when I've finished with it, proudly display it on my bookshelves.

TinaNoir I've owned my Kindle now for about five months and I am in love with it. I knew I was in trouble when I was commuting from work one day and halfway through the ride I had finished Moon Called and I was so bummed. It took me a minute for my mind to catch up with reality. I had a "D'uh" moment remembering that this was a selling point of the device. I had the second book Blood Bound on my reader and was deep into reading it in under five minutes.

Also because of the free content offered on almost a daily basis, I am discovering authors I never would have looked at twice.

Has me excited; technology is fantastic. Anything that gets me to read more is great.

Cecilia (cissygold) ED! Congrats. I have had a Kindle for sometime. It is so wonderful. It really does enhance my reading experience. The built in dictionary, the search feature, and I read faster with it.

I also love having the app on my iPhone, because of that unexpected waits are no longer a problem, I can keep up with my book even though I left my Kindle at home.

Nancy, I still read books with proper bindings and still do have a rather large library in my house, but space and cost considerations of buying all the books I want to read was a major factor in why I choose to get a Kindle.

And it really does read like a book with a proper binding. I have a case so I am holding something with weight, and I have several times gotten so into the story that I have tried to turn pages as if they were leaf pages.

As for displaying my books, I do have a large library where my daughter and I keep our trophies, but more people see my book selves here on Good Reads. Kindle books included.

It really just is an iPod for books.

When I flash back to my college days where I carried all those cassette tapes plus walkman and a backpack weighting almost as much as I did. I wish I had an iPod and Kindle then.

Anita Nother Book (anitanotherbook) I asked for and received a Kindle for Christmas from my parents, and I love it! I knew I would love it because I hate carrying around multiple books I might want to read, or am in the middle of reading, depending on my mood. I like it even more than I thought I would, because I can highlight quotes that are saved forever, easily look up unknown words in the dictionary, and switch over to the Internet to look up an author or concept I hadn't heard of before.

I do wish they would make some things about it better -- I want the ability to email myself my saved quotes, and to classify my books in some other way than the date I first downloaded them, which makes them hard to find. (I want the option of grouping them by author, by title, by bookshelves/tags, etc.) I want to be able to import book info from the Kindle to Goodreads and LibraryThing and vice versa. Also there are a *lot* of books that aren't available on Kindle that I still have to buy the old-fashioned way, when my intention was to cut back on the number of hard copy books I buy/own, and I wrongly assumed that most books would be available in a Kindle version.

So I wish for improvements but overall I love it. It's so much easier to hold and "page turn" than a regular book, so I can snuggle up with my cat and not have to worry about having the arm he's laying on free to turn pages, or having to hold the book open just the right way to be able to read the page I'm on. I love to just take out my Kindle when I'm at the post office or any other time I can sneak in time to read, and it knows exactly what spot I was at and is easy to read while I move forward in line, etc., without having to worry about putting the bookmark back in the right place and then opening it up to the right spot again, etc. I love that I have a vast variety of books to choose from at any given moment, because I'm a "mood-reader", as in, today I feel like Chekhov, today I feel like Grisham, etc.... all on a little electronic device that easily fits into my purse or briefcase, instead of having to lug around a lot of books or be limited to one. These are small things but to me they make a huge difference, and I have been reading a lot more since I became a Kindle-owner. :)

Great thoughts...I love, love the kindle...I've been reading more with the kindle and I think that has borne out from studies I've read.

Ginger My husband bought me my Kindle about a year & a half ago and I LOVE it!!! It's great for vacations, etc. It beats packing a tote w/about 10 books or more to read on vacation. Haven't used it that much in the past month or so due to becoming hooked on a series & getting them from the library. Money is sort of tight right now & I can't afford to purchase any books for my Kindle unless they are free. I have about 150 or more books on it which I haven't read yet. Overall, I think the Kindle is the best present anyone to give or receive!
