Beginning January 1st, 2010
My goals:
Write 1000 words per week or 10ish COW journal pages.
Write 1 short story every month.
Write 2 novels/novellas this year (one throughout the year, one for Nanowrimo)
Write something in french once a week

message 2: by Amy (new)

Amy (runawaymarbles) | 400 comments 1 short story a month is a good idea. Can I adopt it?

and the french is also a good idea. Do you take it as a class or something?

message 3: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (v_a_b) | 182 comments Mod
Sure. People can have the same goals. :)

And yes, I'm taking French as a class. I have been taking it for a year and a half, and the requirement is all 4 years of high school. I know most of the grammar though. And I figure it will be good practice.

message 4: by Amy (new)

Amy (runawaymarbles) | 400 comments Yeah it will.... I do spanish, but I'm not going to try and write in spanish becasue I'm lazy that way. ;)

message 5: by Malin (new)

Malin (tusenord) French is so difficult to write in, but so beautiful. I find writing in a foreign language really taughts you to use it, so that's a good goal! Good luck with it all - and if anyone like prompts for that 1 short story a month, I'm the co-owner of a creative group. We have prompts each month (though they actually are open for two months) and would love some new members.

message 6: by Roger (new)

Roger Cottrell (rogercottrell) | 3 comments Because I'm a movie script writer AND a novelist my goals are slightly different as follows:
1) Finish editing a commissioned feature film piece by the end of this week. I'll need that testimonial if I'm ever going to get other novelists interested in hiring me to adapt their work.
2) Finish my book on script writing and film entrepreneurship by the time I come back from holiday in Lanzarotte. This is going to part finance my next feature film project that goes into production this January.
3) Edit the novella (on which the feature film project is based) as centrepiece to an anthology of short stories I've already written.
4) Edit (by February) HOLLYWOOD BOWL, the best novel I've thus far written and start pitching mainstream publishers.
5) Start a new project (novel) called DARK STEAM in earnest in March, when I've finished marking student essays and film scripts but have yet to start teaching again.

Paul Hi Rog! Fancy meeting you here :)

message 8: by Roger (new)

Roger Cottrell (rogercottrell) | 3 comments Paul, as I introduced you to Goodreads, this is hardly surprising, is it?
Roger
PS....I'm up to my ears this week but will phone New Year's day about a January meet

Roger, those sound like great goals. :) But perhaps it might be easier if you had your own topic?

In fact, I set one up for you. This is the link: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/2...

Hey Roni :]

It's great that you're writing in a foreign language. I'm not sure if I know enough Spanish to do the same, except maybe write my daily routine or something...simple?

Anyway, good luck with your goals :3

message 12: by Paige (new)

Paige Miller | 672 comments ^^ Yeah, as cool as that is, I doubt that my Spanish is good enough.

Good luck, Roni!!!!! Great goals.

Thanks guys! And hello!

Also, though I doubt anybody has noticed because nobody knows my full name, the topic could be shortened to VAB which are my initials.

Tink, if you take the first letters of Veronica's Asymmetrical Bubble, you have VAB. My first name is Veronica, my middle name is Ashleigh, and my last name starts with a B, so my full initials are also VAB. :)

Veronica (v_a_b) | 182 comments Mod
Oh, in addition to those writing goals at the top, here are my other goals (from the BFS forums on the nano site) for 2010:
-get my driver's license by June
-do YWP version of script frenzy and write 50 pages
-Write or start to write (or at least PLAN) a historical fiction novel
-start learning a third language (german if learned independently, spanish if through school)
-Get no lower than an A- in classes for second semester this year, and get at least a B+ in all classes first semester next year (would be higher than B+ but I'm not sure exactly how much I can expect out of myself with starting the IB program)
-Find the time to read at least 3 books a month (except maybe november...)
-Submit something to a contest
-Kick the habit of procrastination

message 18: by Callie (new)

Callie (neverlandcallie) You know, I feel like I just did Script Frenzy. But I gave up on that, now we're 2 days from 2010! It's so weird!

btw, I love the way you spell your middle name!

Xerxes Break(Vivian Ephona) (ephona) | 201 comments HI! Nice to see you again! And YES! Good luck! And have fun writing things in FRENCH! Wish I knew that much of another language.

Ohhhh. *face-palm* I understand now. Haha.

I like the Asymmetrical Bubble. It's cool.

message 21: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (v_a_b) | 182 comments Mod
LOL me too. Asymmetrical was the first word that I thought of to describe a room that started with an A, and Bubble was the first word that I thought of that could be any sort of space where you might spend some time. :)

Veronica (v_a_b) | 182 comments Mod
Annie-- It does NOT feel like I just did script frenzy at all... It hasn't even been a year, and it feels like a loooong time ago.

message 23: by Callie (new)

Callie (neverlandcallie) Not for me . . . :D

message 24: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (v_a_b) | 182 comments Mod
Okay. I've decided on the time period for that historical fiction novel that I'm going to write... The French Revolution. :D I cannot deny the fact that Marie Antoinette fascinates me.

Also, I'm going to date everything that I write, so that I can better keep track. In case I can't get on here to post ever day. Which I know I won't be able to do.

message 25: by Callie (new)

I'll be sure to do that. :)

Annie wrote: "ha ha "Let them eat cake" . . ."

^Actually said by some Spanish queen. Marie Antoinette was actually not a bad person. She just didn't like being the queen of France very much. After all, she was married off to Louis XVI at the age of fourteen or fifteen. The marriage was mostly to end the feuds between Austria and France. And of course, she had to sleep with him so that there could be an heir (which turned out not to matter anyway, because the poor third estate (which consisted of everybody who wasn't nobility (2nd estate) or clergy (first estate)) decided to start a revolution so that they could have some influence in the government...)

Veronica (v_a_b) | 182 comments Mod
Oh! Almost forgot!

Jan 1st:
I wrote one cow journal page about why we need something fun in March. The words were bothering me as I tried to fall asleep.
I also made a decision on the (very) general topic for the historical fiction novel that I made a goal to write this year! Yay! Now I just need to do the research.

Jan 2nd:
I got the first few sentences for a short story. They were stuck in my head, but I didn't want to go and think about something else and then lose them, so I wrote them down. I continued for a small bit, but as I only had a tiny Moleskine notebook with me, I had to stop... I will continue it on the computer. It will be posted on goodreads. by the end of today, I think. Or at least part of it. This will fulfill one of my writing goals for this month (see first post).

Hey TOLI! Thanks. :)

As for January second... I didn't finish the story, but I did write 600 ish words of it!

January 3rd:
Absolutely nothing. Either sleeping, eating a meal, working, or reading Pride and Prejudice. I feel stronger affections for that book than Mr. Darcy feels for Elizabeth Bennett. Having so far read only half, I cannot guarantee that the truth of this statement will persist. No doubt exists that my adoration for the book will remain the same (or even grow) in the time I will take to read it. However, I suspect that Mr. Darcy's admiration will grow into a love over which I will be unable to triumph.

Jan 4th: I don't think that I wrote anything. Oh well.

Jan 5th:about one page worth of a poem (approx 100 words). A tidbit in French that is maybe 30% fictional.

So far this week: about 800 words total (600 of story, two cow journal pages). Monthly short story is partially completed. Writing in french completed. 200 more words to go!
Also, I finished Pride and Prejudice. It took me about four or five days to read, I think.

Thanks! I haven't written any more yet. I haven't really had much time. School and such got in the way. And wanting to write other things... but I'll get back to it soon.

Jan 6th:
I'm pretty sure that I wrote absolutely nothing.

Jan 7th:
Stuff for school, totaling to maybe 400 words? 500 max. I haven't counted... I'll just assume that it's 400.

Jan 8th:
Finished the short story! Doesn't have a very good ending but... http://www.goodreads.com/story/show/5...
934 words today.

Total for this week (which is going until the end of today, Jan 8th, so that the new week can start on a sunday): About 2130 words. Weekly WC goal met.
1 tidbit in French. Weekly write-in-french goal met.
Short story written ("Parking Garage Murder" 1539 words). Monthly short story goal met.
Read 1 book, started a second. Monthly reading goal partially met
Drove a little over an hour, adding to the 25ish that I still need before I can get my license.
Decided on time period for historical fiction novel that I plan to write this year.
Didn't have that much homework, but I procrastinated too much anyway

And if you did not notice, I'm including my other goals (not just writing goals) in the overall week. I figure that it's good to keep track of those somewhere as well. Also, keeping track of my progress on those goals will help me to keep them in mind and to achieve them.

I haven't really written anything this week. Haven't had time. Too busy with school. .Not sure if I should count the six pages that I wrote for my American studies test today or not... or that speech that I'm working on. I don't think that I should. Nor that script for french class. So I've got 2 days and 1000 words to write. No big deal. I won't have homework this weekend, so I'll write it all tomorrow or Saturday.

message 48: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 814 comments Stupid school. It has been keeping me from writing too … plus all the editing I have to do. Ugh, you have no homework? LUCKY! I have so much I'm like drowning in it. Aggggh. Stupid end-of-semester … omg, halfway through the year already. Freaky.

Anyhoo, What's up with you? How's life? :D

message 49: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (v_a_b) | 182 comments Mod
yeah... the no-homework weekends are very nice sometimes. With half of the school doing IB and the other half doing MYP (middle years program, pre-IB), everybody gets a bit bogged down sometimes. So our school schedules no-homework weekends each month, usually centered around holidays/long weekends. This weekend being 3 1/2 days (end of the semester was friday, MLK day on Monday), we got one. I guess I picked a really good weekend to get sick...

message 50: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 814 comments Gaah not fair. We do not get these so-called "no homework weekends". XD

Aww you're sick? :( I'm sorry! Get better!
