Challenge: 50 Books discussion

Do you always stick to your preordained list, or do you allow a little serendipity to come into your life and do a spur-of-the-moment impulse read?

I know; I often will veer off in one particular direction when something hits home with me. Last year I got infatuated about books in which the characters faced the wilderness, and suddenly I had a pile of books on that subject. I belong to a book club and two book classes, so I sometimes have trouble balancing what I want to read and what I'm reading with the group.
