Jennie | 38 comments Okay, this is the review I wrote of "Drums of Autumn": I gave up on this book, sorry to say. I loved the first three in the series but this one was really meandering and didn't give the reader any of the things that are great about the series -- adventure, passion, sexy love scenes. I would like to know how the series ends, however. I might try this one again in a few months when I'm further removed from the other books in the series.

Can anyone tell me if I should go back to this book and try again, or does the series go irretrievably downhill? The first three were great books for the cold winter days ahead and I'd gladly try again if I thought the remainder of the series were worth it.

Kei (2kkeina) | 18 comments I couldn't even finish the first book because I found it disgusting and disturbing. The main character travels in time and cheats on her husband almost right away. The book glorifies beatings and submissive female behaviour because it's 'period appropriate'. A guy who looks exactly like the main character's husband is a psychopath who get's off on torturing people. It's been a while since I tried reading it and I don't remember all the details I found disgusting, but I remember clearly not wanting anything to do with it on multiple accounts.

Shannon P (shannonmarieparker) | 3 comments @Kei This^^ is the type of honesty I need when I read reviews. Thank you! I don't see that often on popular books and series so I don't really know if they are good or just something everyone reads because they see the name everywhere.

Personally, when I pick up books, I do it in one of 2 ways: I either don't read anything about it, not even store description or the blurb, and go in completely blind; or, if it's something I've already heard about, I look through the 1 or 2 star reviews, especially the ones where people include quotes. I feel like the people who leave negative reviews tend to give more details and examples to justify their negative opinions. I really need & enjoy honesty when I read reviews too.
