Yeah, this was like my favorite. I love when they discover the Dragon Boat! And when Boy 412 was dancing around making faces while he's Unseen. Then he like trips...
This was the first of my 'magical finds' when I was looking for something to take the place of Harry Potter. I saw the cover, thought it looked interesting and the rest is history. Luckily i'd picked up book one in the series:-).
That's what happened to me! I loved the cover so I took a chance. This book is probably the reason I love reading so much! :D
I was in the bookstore Christmas Eve, sitting with my family waiting for my mother to do some last minute wrapping, when I scanned the shelves and happened to see Magyk. I read the first two pages, decided it looked interesting, realized I didn't have any paper, and chanted the title to myself until I could write it down. When we got back from vacation, I took a chance and requested that random book off the shelves from the library.
Hmmm... How did I get introduced to the Septimus series? In 6th grade, we had to bring a reading book to school everyday and got 15-20 minutes to read. I, being an amazing student, frequently forgot one. One the first day I did this, my friend said I could read her book with her. That book happened to be Magyk.

Physik was my favourite but i'm a sucker for anything with time travel. I've had some cracking magical find using the same method. The Stravaganza series, The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flammel series, The Children of the Lamp series, Mortal Instruments/Infernal Devices series and three more which I discovered pre Harry Potter/Septimus: 'Night of the Solstice/Heart of Valor', The Obernewtyn Chronicles and the books of David Eddings specifically the Belgariad, the Mallorean, the Elenium and the Tamuli.
I assume you have all heard about the sequels being written to the Septimus series?
Yeah I can't wait! Did you know they were planning on making a movie about Magyk? I don't know if they're still are though. :c I guess some books are better without the movie. Most of the time the book is way better anyways.
