New Year's Day, 1772: The Wedding of Thomas and Martha Jefferson.

On New Year's Day in 1802, Thomas Jefferson penned a reply to a letter... One sentence in Jefferson's reply became the foundation for the argument against government sponsored religious activity:

On New Year's Day in 1802, Thomas Jefferson wrote:

"...Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church & State..."

Freedom means NO COERCION. Since government is FORCE, it should not enter the realms of religion, economics, science, education, and art.

Private/personal faith, private atheism, or private anything is no one's business.
