Oh god, Barney Snaith?!? What a name. :-)
I don't think I could feel romantic about a man with that name!

We have been talking about Frances Hodgson Burnett on another thread but she also wrote a book I've been wanting to read called The Shuttle. Has anyone read any of her adult fiction?
I am not sure if The Shell Seekers can be considered as a classical romance, but I liked it any way.
Yay Misfit! You must have read my mind. I was just thinking about you and Mary Stewart. Okay, I'll add the thread if you help fill it!

Misfit and Laura, what about all those juicy sounding historicals set in India you've been reading? Would they be classified as Historical Romance or Historical Fiction do you think?
The Splendor of Silence by Indu Sundaresan was a great read--one of those Indian historicals! Also, my crack of book series is the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon--I cannot put them down!!

Of course but only if you're willing! That's what we're here for! I'll gladly add some but since I haven't read them yet, I'm not sure exactly where to put them.
Then, just to start with HF-India, I must mention The Far Pavilions, Olivia and Jai, Zemindar, The Jewel in the Crown, Trade Wind. All of them I consider to be 5 stars book. Misfit, it's your turn now.
Laura, I'll start a historical fiction - India thread and then maybe we can post them over there.
I agree with Laura, although those books are what I call *genre busters* as they are books that could satisfy a romance reader as well as an HF reader.Through a Glass Darkly
Now Face To Face
Gwen Bristow's got some keepers as well,
Jubilee Trail
Celia Garth
Calico Palace
Then there is Celeste de Blasis (huge books though),
The Proud Breed
Wild Swan (the first of a trilogy)
The Tiger's Woman
EC is an historical fiction author but her earlier books have a *romance* feel to them. I always drag them out when I'm in the blues,
The Champion
Lords of the White Castle
The Love Knot
The Marsh King's Daughter
The Conquest
Great! Thanks for adding all those Misfit! I've read the Karleen Koen books and they are a juicy combination of history and romance.
I am really quite fond of Katherine, by Anya Seton. Also the novels that start with Dawn's Early Light, by Elswyth Thane.
