Thank you to everyone who is adding books to the group shelves!
I just have one request. When adding, please tick off as many applicable shelves that apply to the title because many cross genres. For example, Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series could fall under romance, historical fiction, time-travel or fantasy. It will make books a lot easier to find on the shelves especially for those genre-busters, as Misfit likes to call them.

I just realized that I didn’t properly introduce myself to everyone. My name is Lee; I am the creator and moderator of Comfort Reads. I’m a homeschooling mom to a little girl who is in the beginning stages of learning to read – yay! I’m a confessed GoodReads addict and book-a-holic. I try, (well not too hard) and fail to keep my urges under control. I consider myself a lifelong learner and have varied interests. Some of my favourite genres include historical fiction, classics, mysteries, speculative fiction and memoirs. I love to cook healthy meals for my family, crochet, swim and do yoga. A few days ago I had a nasty headache and while I was searching my virtual bookshelves for something light to read, I hit upon the idea of a group dedicated to Comfort Reads!
My goal is for all of you to feel welcome and at home here. As I’ve learned over the past few days, thanks to our diverse histories and experiences we all have different ideas of what makes a comfort read. I encourage members to treat each other with kindness and respect, especially considering that people may feel vulnerable sharing what comforts us when we feel stressed out, sad or overwhelmed with life. But most of all I want you all to have fun here!
I want to introduce you all to the amazing Lisa Vegan who has kindly agreed to co-moderate the group with me. She is a super-librarian here at GoodReads and is one of the most helpful people on the planet. I’m sure she will want to say a few words for herself. :-)

Hi Everybody, Thanks, Lee for adding me as a co-mod. I love helping with this group, and I’m shocked that there wasn’t an existing comfort reads group before Lee had her brilliant idea. I’m glad actually because Lee has set a very friendly and welcoming tone for this group and has created a wonderful infrastructure for us.I’m Lisa and I’m very active here at Goodreads. I’d say about 2/3 of my reading (when I’m not in a school program) could be considered comfort reading. Some of what I consider comfort reading might not be considered comforting to others, but I’m sure that’s true of many of us. I have very eclectic taste in books, but some of my favorite genres are children’s, young adult, mysteries, science & nature, vegan theory & cookbooks, biographies, general and historical fiction, psychology, and humor.
I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone here; I already know quite a few of you and I’ve enjoyed getting to know you, via messages in groups, messages at reviews, etc.
I’m here to enjoy myself, help all group members, and help Lee however I can. Lee and I both want this to be an enjoyable group for everyone, so please let us know if you have ideas for changes, additions, improvements, and please let us know if we can help in any way.
I've noticed, as has Lee, that our most active threads are the various chat threads and the what we're reading right now thread, and I'm glad we're having fun with those. But, please don't forget to add your newly read or newly remembered comfort read books (or, in the case of new members) all your comfort read books, in the various discussion topic threads. That way we will help other members find comfort read books they might enjoy, as they will be listed in both the discussion threads and the group bookshelf.
Lee and I also have fun in the various chat threads, as I'm sure you've noticed. I also love hearing about everybody's comfort read books. We enjoy such a wide range of books!
For members who are lurking, if you're comfortable doing so, simply posting books in the appropriate threads will be most welcomed. Lee and I are happy to add them to the group bookshelves. if you don't feel comfortable, or don't have time, to do even that, Lee and I hope you're enjoying the group.
Thanks All.
Hello everyone!
I just want to let everyone know that I love our community of Comfort Readers and would be so happy to meet you all in person. To this end, I plan on organizing a live event and would appreciate your feedback and input. I have created a series of four polls to gather some initial information and to see how many of you would be interested in attending.
From the initial conversations I've had with some of our most active members, I think it would be fun to hold a weekend event with some social activities, at least one author talk and book signing and perhaps a few other fun activities. I am open to suggestions. Feel free to comment or make suggestions in the following thread: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/6...
Our membership has really grown and although not all of you are vocal in your participation, I consider you all an important part of our community. I look forward to meeting many of you soon!

Hi, All. Even though I co-created this group with Lee, I haven't been active in it for a long time. I used to be, as did Lee, and this used to be a very active now.Now it's not, and I don't have the time to work on it.
So I'm taking away my mod status and I've decided to leave the group.
Lee and All, If this group ever becomes active again, I'd love to be alerted because I might then rejoin, but probably not as a moderator, just as a regular member.
Best wishes to everybody and I hope that I see some of you around the site.
