...classically awful. I got 20 pages in and couldn't handle it. Instead:
Persuasion by: Jane Austen
I just realized I've never read this one! Years ago PBS featured the BBC productions of "Sense and Sensibility," "Emma," "Persuasion (missed this one!)," "Northanger Abbey," "Mansfield Park," and "Pride and Prejudice." Every Sunday for 5 weeks I was glued to the tube watching fabulous unknown British actors (except for Colin Firth of his portrayal of Mr. Darcy.) I enjoyed BBC's Pride and Prejudice adaptation so much more than the one that starred Keira Knightley. One day I hope to own the BBC Jane Austen 6 dvd disc set.
I have the BBC P&P DVDs (hehehe). I have yet to watch them. I loved the Keira Knightly movie though. Matthew Macfayden was yummo.
The BBC movies are THE BEST!! I refuse to watch Pride & Prejudice with Keira Knightly because she's creepy, besides, no one can play Darcy like Colin Firth! :) He's so sexy! Amanda - you must start watching your BBC DVD's ASAP .. heehee
Matthew Macfayden didn't portray confidence like Colin Firth + Colin's snobbery won me over from the beginning and always left me wanting more.

A classic stands the test of time. The work is usually considered to be a representation of the period in which it was written; and the work merits lasting recognition. In other words, if the book was published in the recent past, the work is not a classic.
