Does anybody know about why rice prices went up? There were signs in Costco about a increased demand... any ideas?

I think that rice can be used as an alternate energy, like corn. Either that, or it has something to do with all of the bees disapearing.

Thanks! And yes, they have, I can't remember what it's called, but whole groups of bees with the disease just fly off to die, which is really bad, because we depend on bees for our food, one way or another. They're a big part of our econamy.

I just found this... we are consuming more rice than it can produce... wow when people at my school say Asians are sorta taking over the world... this is sort of a proof o________o

This is crazy! What would us Asians do without rice? I have to eat them every dinner... it's like the main course!

*shrugs* Hmm... I'm going to wait till the other's go on to see what they have to say about this... so overwelming! Does that mean all those Rice-eaters (mainly Asian) have to change thier diets? What will happen to tradition?

i eat rice for lunch and dinner everyday. i think that something happened to the rice crops. I feel bad for people who can't afford to buy rice. it's awful.

we need rice. i am have the habit to try new things other than chicken or meat. I am pure vegetarian. My dad does too. it is just my mom and my sister. they do eat sandwiches and pizza, but how can we buy pizza every night.

RICE is really good for you. I'm Thai and since like ever, I eat rice all the time. I would give up meat once in a while.

yea, believe me, the prices are high, for a 20pound bag, it costs 30 dollars, so for a 40pound bag it costs 60 dollars. this is at an indian store.

really sometimes i get bored of rice for one or two days, but than i am back to normal.

me too. I would usually switch to ordinary english food and then to thai because my mom cooks it and again and.....etc. Rice is really costing that much, wow, my mom didn't tell me, that's suckish. I like meat but too much of it because if you eat that much meat....lots of people concern about their weight.

Euros are also getting more powerful in the econamy, so that's another part of it, as well as inflation.

I never knew that rice could have cost so much, is it because of so many people loving it and i really wish tht they would lower the prices.

yea, i do eat rice everyday but over the weekends we change our dinner to something else other than rice.
