How was If I Stay and I Heart You...? I've been considering buying both.

Both were good. I Heart You was a super fast read (like just a couple of solid hours). It wasn't a very "deep" book for the topic, even though it wanted to give the appearance of being deep. I liked If I Stay a lot. It was a tear-jerker and the boyfriend in the book is pretty awesome. Wanna trade them for something? Okay, did you love We Have Always Lived in the Castle and The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian? So fantastic. And Perks, which is one of my fave YAs, hands down.
And I am more than a little jealous that you've read the Dead Tossed Waves...

I did love We Have Always Lived in the Castle, in fact, I just gave it to my sister as part of her birthday gift!

And I was anxious to read Dead Tossed Waves, which I really liked. It seems like many people were disappointed with the Forest of Hands but I thought the premise was unique enough to overlook character issues.

I liked it. I think people wanted romance and fluff, and that would have been too easy. I was impressed that Carrie Ryan had the guts to write a YA book that wasn't happy and perfect and that there were questions and a flawed main character. Also, people seemed to really think Mary was so selfish, which is absurd to me. What did they expect from her? What exactly was she supposed to do? The goal was getting free and finding out there's a world out there; that requires a little single-mindedness to achieve, and I didn't find that selfish, but necessary.
I really need to review it before I forget everything.

I read "We Have Always Lived in a Castle" when I was in high school. Although that particular book wasn't on the required list for book reports, the author was and my sophomore English teacher "allowed" this book for a book report. I had loved the book so much that, for once, I wrote an (in-class) book report that garnered one of my few As (for book reports, that is). I wrote in the first person, as if I were the main character, and I still remember one particular comment that one of my fellow classmates said about it. He indicated that whoever wrote it, "must be insane"...I felt like it was a real compliment although the teacher never told who wrote it. Come to think of it, I never got my book report back from her.
Regardless, still an awesome book, and although "The Haunting of Hill House" is considered her classic novel, I still prefer "We Have Always Lived..." I am glad to see that it is still being read today and is just as compelling as it was to me (lo, those many years ago)>
