I'm wondering about Lord Kendell. Granted, I'm only in book 2, It Happened One Autumn and he may be mentioned still, but I felt bad for him, being lured into a trap then dumped. He seems like the perfect character for his own story.

I just finished Again The Magic and was so happy to learn about Westcott's family after reading the Wallflower series. :)It was like revisiting old friends and filled in a lot of missing pieces in the family history.
I didn't like Cam's story :( So far the Hathaways series has been disappointing for me but I still have to read the most recent one. Hard to top or even equal the Wallflowers series IMO.

I liked Cam's story. Not my fave of the Hathaways but I did like it. I think many of us are disappointed that he didn't end up with Daisy.
I wasn't crazy about Cam's story, either. I didn't hate it or anything, but I didn't connect with him as well as I thought I would. I originally thought I wanted him to end up with Daisy, but in the end I was happy with both of the people they ended up with.
Cam's story was just blah for me and I didn't like all the gypsy stuff either which I felt detracted from the love story. I didn't like Daisy's story either because it felt rushed and Matthew just didn't work for me.Vale I think more people like The Hathaways series than dislike it. I'm in the minority (lol!)
I apologize if some people in our group have already heard me say this, but LK originally did plan on pairing Cam with Daisy. She said that she changed publishers and there were issues with future books so she changed Daisy's love interest to Matthew. I think that explains why a lot of us thought that Cam and Daisy would be together after reading "Devil in Winter." I am okay with it (I guess) and I know I will love Cam and Amelia together when I read them.Ally

I can see why everyone is disappointed. But (don't hit me), I think Cam and Daisy are too much alike to be a good couple. I like that they have a contrast to themselves with Amelia and Matthew.

I like Daisy and Matthew too and I know I will love Cam with Amelia so it will all be good. I feel like my patience is quickly deteriorating and I will be reading the Hathaways very soon now that I have joined this group.

Like you, I love that Cam and Daisy had a moment. Daisy was feeling lonely, and she got a hot kiss from a hot guy, Cam.
It's hard when an author does a 180, so I can see why many are upset. Hugs to all the Team Cam/Daisy members.
Thanks for not throwing stuff at me, Ally. :)
*puts away bushel of rotten fruit meant for Danielle*I did like Matthew. He had his good points. I've said it a million times, though, that the Cam/Daisy pairing has a huge story to tell and it's just heartbreaking that it can never happen now.
But I really like Amelia too. At first I thought she was bland, but then her dry humor starting coming through and she made me laugh a lot. I wish she hadn't been so resistant to Cam for so long. He's someone that needed to be chased a bit, I think. And ... Daisy would have done that. Just sayin'.
I think the Wallflowers series is just slightly better than the Hathaways. The last book, TMaT, rose to the Wallflowers level, though, IMO.

That makes sense, Bean. I can see where the Team Cam/Daisy fans are coming from. I'm excited to read TMaT. In February, I think. So that's two Kleypas books on the roster. Yay, me!!!

I have high hopes for Beatrix's book in the Hathaways. She's wilder, but she reminds me of Daisy in some ways.
I think you'll really like TMaT.
Did you read A Wallflower Christmas? What did you think?

I really like Beatrix, and I haven't read her book yet. I was like her with animals. (Kind of still am).Haven't read AWC yet. I ran out of time for Christmas reads. Is it too Christmasy to read outside of the season? I heard some fans were disappointed.

It was pretty good. Just 'okay' for Kleypas I guess. The Wallflower aspect actually got in the way for me. Little vignettes of them. But it really served to make Matthew look like a total milquetoast and Daisy look completely lifeless. That was my biggest disappointment, I think. But Rafe is a very good hero.

That's not good news. I guess it can wait until next Christmas, then. Thanks for the honest feedback.
I think it would definitely be okay to wait until next Christmas to read it too, Danielle. I hate to say it, but it was a little disappointing to me. There was a minor storyline I didn't like, but it ended up happy.

I read Wallflower Christmas on Christmas day. I didn't dislike it. It actually had some cute scenes in it. And, the American in it has some great lines about when he starts his initial pursuit.I wouldn't say it was crazy Christmas themed. Takes place when they're preparing for the Christmas holiday for the most part. Still, I enjoyed reading it on Christmas.

Well, I think I'll save it. I might need a new LK to get me through, if I end up reading all the contemporaries and the rest of the Hathaways. I firmly believe that a less-than-stellar Kleypas is still gold. :)

Hmm. I think that Scandal in Spring is very good. But I'm such a St. Vincent/Evie fan, Devil in Winter was a hard act to follow for me, personally.
Me too, Danielle! I think that is why I didn't connect so much with it. Although, I love Daisy's character and Matthew definitely grew on me. In a way, I am glad that Cam wasn't paired with Daisy because it left a good opening for the Hathaway books while still keeping a connection with the Wallflowers.Ally
Alexis wrote: "Me too, Danielle! I think that is why I didn't connect so much with it. Although, I love Daisy's character and Matthew definitely grew on me. Granted, this way Cam is an integral part of the Hathaways and that's a bonus I celebrate.
I really didn't like what LK did with Matthew and Daisy in AWC. I didn't even dislike ASiS but I really don't want to reread it now.
But, it's water under the bridge. I wonder if we'll get any interaction with the Wallflowers in Leo or Beatrix's books. I hope so. I thought they were great in MtM.
I read on LK's website that Leo has been one of her favorite characters to write. I haven't read the first or third Hathaway's yet so I am not sure what I think.

Argh!!! Did something bad happen to Matthew and Daisy? I'm scared now!Leo's come a long way. I can see that LK likes him. I think she likes to show how a person can change for the better. She is great at writing those kinds of stories, so that makes sense.
I agree! I think that is why I sometimes like her series more instead of individual titles because she can really show that development over time.

The thing about Matthew in AWC is that he's a big nothing-burger. Really. And Daisy has no spark. The whole book could have been written without them being there. I would have preferred it, because I took away a real dissatisfaction with their relationship. Here's part of the problem. The father seemed to lighten up a lot at the end of ASiS. He showed a side of himself that seemed like it could be a bit softer and maybe even a little honorable. But he's back to being an absolute tyrant in AWC. And Matthew is still his right-hand man with no sway. And Daisy is just as under daddy's thumb as Matthew because she's married to him.
It's not a huge part of the book. But it made me a much stronger Cam/Daisy shipper than I already was (no disrespect to Amelia, I'd be willing to clone Cam). And it made me feel that LK wasn't really very into the Matthew/Daisy story in the first place.
I still really like a lot of AWC. The main romance is very satisfying. Rafe is great and the heroine (name escapes me - sorry!) is very good as well.
Alexis wrote: "I read on LK's website that Leo has been one of her favorite characters to write. I really have a hard time forgiving that. But since he got cleaned up I'm in love. He's so hilarious and he genuinely cares, although he hasn't completely let go of his pain. It makes him a very textured character and I love that.
I can't wait for Married by Morning!!!!

You mean (gasp!) you haven't read it yet?! Then I don't feel quite so bad. Let me know when you get it!
OMG I thought I was the last to read it. I just read it this week. Nice to know I'm not as behind as I thought I was.

I am currently reading Secrets of a Summer Night. And am liking it. It is my first Kleypas book. I am really liking the friendship that the Wallfowers have formed. It makes this story less ordinary than other historical romances.

It should have been book 1 in the series except that the Wallflowers hadn't formed their group yet, but the Marsdens and Stony Cross Park are prominently featured in it. So basically, it's a prequel but it is sooooooooooooo wonderful!
Keep us posted on what you think of the story!
UM,
I am glad I read your post to Alycia because I ordered the Wallflowers but didn`t know about this one.I got Sugar Daddy first so I have started it and like it.Thanks UM.

You're welcome! Glad to help!
Again The Magic was written as a stand alone novel, but as she does so often, Lisa Kleypas then went on to build characters around that setting.
I read it last, and it was still amazing but I wish I had known and read it first.

I do like Simon Hunt even though he seems like a rake! I am at the part where Annabelle was brought back to her room after feeling bad, realizing that she was bitten by a snake. It was great to see humanity in Hunt. Although, the bad boy image does appeal :) I always like flawed characters that realize their potential with a great love.
