Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments Hi Vale. Long story short, characters from the Wallflowers show up in the Hathaway books. Cam Rohan is the hero of Mine Till Midnight. But he appears in Devil in Winter. Also, Leo inherits a title and a property that is adjoining Lord Westcliff's property. Cam and Amelia, the heroine of Mine Till Midnight, first meet in London where she goes to bring her brother home from a gaming club, that is run by Cam. Later, they encounter each other on Westcliff's land. Cam is friends with Westcliff through St. Vincent, who he works for. Sorry if that's confusing.

Let's recap:

1st appearance of Cam is in Devil in Winter, which is St. Vincent's story with Evie. (3rd Wallflower book).

Lord Westcliff is Marcus Marsden, who is the owner of Stony Cross Park, which is adjoining Leo's property through inheritance. Lord Westcliff is the hero of
It Happened One Autumn (2nd Wallflower book). Lord Westcliff is the brother of Aline Marsden, who is the heroine of Again The Magic.

Dina (missdina) | 718 comments Psst, Danielle... It Happened One Autumn is the 2nd Wallflower book, not the 1st. :)

Great job tying the Wallflowers and the Hathaways! What a wonderful web LK has woven, don't you think?

Beanbag Love | 103 comments I have to point out that Cam was mentioned in Scandal in Spring even though he didn't appear. *sob* Daisy *sob* asks about him and gets shut down by everyone else because he's *sob* not suitable.

Now I have to take the rest of the day off to recover from the pain.

;^)

I ♥ Bookie Nookie (bookienookiereviews.blogspot.com) (ibookienookie) For the Hathaways, Will I ruin the book if I read them out of order? I am still waiting for book 1 but I have books 2 and 3 and I know I will probably have to return them b4 the first comes in.

Since you started this thread, how would you feel about listing the reading order for us? I think it could also go in the Bookshelves folder.

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) there is no continuing storyline that reading them out of order would mess up so yes, u can read them as stand alones. the first book introduces u to the characters and some may insist that the back story may be important in understanding each of the siblings but still u could read out of order imho.

I ♥ Bookie Nookie (bookienookiereviews.blogspot.com) (ibookienookie) oh good! thanks for the info.

Dina (missdina) | 718 comments Vale wrote: "Is is true that this series is not as good as the wallflowers's series?"

Vale, it's always a matter of taste, so some readers prefer one series to the other. My recommendation to you is: see it for yourself. ;) AFAIK, Kleypas can do no wrong, so even if you don't like the Hathaways as much as you love the Wallflowers, you'll still be reading something good.

message 10: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments I agree with Dina. I love the Hathaways series, as much as the Wallflowers. I like the sibling element very much. If you're worried, you might try the Travis books, and then the Hathaways. I've found, the more LK books I read, the more I want to read. I was pretty upset that she moved to contemporary, but then I realized I was being silly. It's just more opportunities to read her books, and I know I'll like a mainstream contemporary romance now. LOL.

Cheryl (ghemomma) | 900 comments Vale wrote: "Is is true that this series is not as good as the wallflowers's series?"

I think all of her series have something special and unique about them. I have a book from each series in my all-time-favorites bookshelf. It Happened One Autumn from Wallflowers, Seduce Me at Sunrise from the Hathaways, and Worth Any Price from the Bow Street Runners.

The Wallflower series will always have a special place in my heart though, because they were the first books I had read after discovering historical romance from reading Julie Garwood books!

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Julie Garwood was my first historical romance read as well. She will always hold a special place... she and those wild Highlanders!

2. It Happened One Autumn (2005)
3. Devil in Winter (2006)
4. Scandal in Spring (2006)
5. A Wallflower Christmas (2008)

Hathaways
1. Mine Till Midnight (2007)
2. Seduce Me At Sunrise (2008)
3. Tempt Me at Twilight (2009)
4. Married By Morning (2010)
5. Love In The Afternoon (2010)

Beanbag Love | 103 comments So, I've decided to read MtM and SmaS again since it's been so long. It's interesting after reading TMaT (my favorite of the series) to see how everyone was introduced. Particularly Poppy and Bea.

But I have to say that Leo is so hatable in MtM, I think it's amazing she's made him such a great character.

I still think it's unfortunate that she has Cam being the pursuer. I think it would have been better if Amelia had hunted him despite his concerns about his suitability.

And Again the Magic takes place before the Wallfowers and has Lord Westcliff, from It Happened One Autumn. AtM is the story of Westcliff's sisters.

Cherra, I personally think Mine Till Midnight really sets up for Seduce Me at Sunrise. I remember feeling the longing of Merripen and Win in MtM, and in fact felt they were stealing the show from Cam and Amelia a bit, which is what made me so excited to read Seduce Me at Sunrise when that came out. But tell what you think if you have read them out of order. Did you feel like it spoiled anything for you?

I love those books, too, Cheryl. And I think Julie Garwood is great. I read Kleypas after Garwood, too, because of recommendations from my best friend. The books that made me love historical romances was Judith McNaught's historicals. They will always be special to me.

Oh, I can't wait for the answer to this one. My daughter says her favorite is Paradise, but that is a contemporary.

Lady Jayne *~*The Beach Bandida*~* (ladyjayne) | 400 comments Hi Cheryl! I'll copy and paste what I said to Dhestiny in one of her reviews:

Re. Judith McNaught, These should be read together, in this order:

Westmoreland Dynasty Saga:
- Kingdom of Dreams (this is set in medieval times and the rest are all during the Victorian period)
- Whitney, my Love
- Until You
- "Miracles" (Nicholas DuVille's story) in A HOLIDAY OF LOVE (199) (with Jill Barnett, Jude Deveraux, Arnette Lamb) or also found in SIMPLE GIFTS (1997) (with Jude Deveraux)

And these 3 should be read in this order:

Sequels series:
(Not sure why it's called that but that's what they call it on wikipedia, maybe because they are considered "Sequels"? since Whitney My Love was her first novel and these are set in the same period?)

- Once and Always
- Something Wonderful
- Almost Heaven

These 3 are my all-time fave McNaught books. I just adore Jason Fielding, Jordan Townsende and Ian Thornton. Ian is my absolute fave. I’ve loved him for what seems like forever now. I can’t resist the genius that is his own worst enemy. *sighs* Or maybe I just have a thing for men named Thornton, as in, I also adore John Thornton from the BBC miniseries North and South, based on the novel by Elizabeth Gaskell. I highly recommend this miniseries.

And because the "Sequels series" are my faves, I, personally, would recommend starting with those actually. ^_^ Though I do know lots of people who LOVE Whitney, My Love.

Judith McNaught was always my No. 1 historical romance author since I was a teen. I thought no one could top her and then Lisa Kleypas equaled her, for me. Of course, McNaught and I have a long history. Ever since I discovered her books as a late teen, I re-read her historicals every few years.

I did enjoy her Contemporaries but LOVE her historicals the best. I loved Paradise and Perfect. And also the Foster Saga.

Here's the wiki link which has a list of her books that are connected.

Lady Jayne *~*The Beach Bandida*~* (ladyjayne) | 400 comments Argh! Don't make me choose! It's like choosing between babies! LOL

Okay, okay! If I must choose an absolute fave it would be Almost Heaven because I love Ian Thornton. (I've re-read that one the most.) I wanted to shake him, at times, but I love him. But you really can't read Almost Heaven without reading Something Wonderful first. These two are closely tied-together. I mean they could be read as stand-alones, but Jordan and Alexandra's story is in SW and then they are secondary characters in AH - Ian and Elizabeth's story.

Even though wikipedia lists Once and Always first, I think the only real connection to the above two is Roddy Carstairs (a secondary character) and that O&A happens first in time.

I do also love O&A and for some of my friends, that is their fave. But as I said, other friends have listed Whitney My Love as a fave. Others list A Kingdom of Dreams as their fave. So, to each their own. I don't want to influence you with my opinions. I did enjoy them all though.

But if you really want my reco, then start with Something Wonderful. ^_^ Then move on to Almost Heaven. There! LOL

Yes, my fave of McNaught's contemporaries is Paradise, too, and Perfect. I do love Matthew (Paradise) and Zach (Perfect), too. These two are also tied and should be read with Paradise first, then Perfect.

Some people have said that these seem dated. Well, they were written in the early 1990s. So, they are contemporary at that point in time. Reading them back now, I love the "retro" references. LOL
