Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments Are you a fan of the sexy, slightly older, very self-controlled magistrate from Lady Sophia's Lover? Then let's talk about Sir Ross!

Cheryl (ghemomma) | 900 comments Bahahaha! I love the name of this thread! I loved this character too! I had Gerard Butler starring as Sir Ross!

message 3: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (ghemomma) | 900 comments Oh wait! Did you mean his "bedchambers" or his "office chambers"? My mind is in the gutter...

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) hmmm, he was delicious wasn't he?

Cheryl (ghemomma) | 900 comments Pamela wrote: "hmmm, he was delicious wasn't he?"

Indeed, especially with whom I had pictured as Sir Ross! But seriously, I did really like this character. He was wonderful!

message 8: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments I love Ross! Cheryl, that might be Freudian slip on my part. I guess I was thinking 'bedchambers.' LOL. LSL has some spicy scenes!

It does have some spicy scenes, but several that leave you hanging (if you know what I mean! I don't want to ruin it for those who haven't read it yet ((Dhestiny))!!)

Dhestiny- Patience, grasshopper! :)

So, everyone needs to say what they love about Ross! We all say we love him but haven't said what about his character we love (including myself).

I loved that he was gruff and kept his emotions hidden but had an extremely tender side to him that Sophia brought out in him! I also loved that he had only one lover after his wife died and he couldn't even stay with that lover b/c she was falling in love with him and he didn't want to hurt her. He was very sweet in that way!

message 10: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments Ditto to what you said, Cheryl. He was a very formal and pragmatic man, but he fell hard for Sophia, and he became obsessed with her. I love them obsessed!

Your words are so much more eloquent than mine, Danielle!

I seem to recall you loving another hero who became really obsessed...can't think of who that might be...maybe it will come to me if I think hard enough...did it start with a "K"? Oh, that should be on another thread, but not Lisa Kleypas... ;)
But I totally agree with you, heroes with an obsession are hot!!

message 17: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (ghemomma) | 900 comments Dhestiny! Is that a tickle in your throat or did you just say Kylemore? Poor Sir Ross, this is HIS thread! I wonder if Kylemore and Sir Ross knew each other? (there, I just had to bring it back to the correct topic!)

message 18: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments Well, it could happen. London and all! LOL!

message 19: by Cheryl (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments That's awesome, Cheryl! When are you going to write a book?

message 22: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments I love that!! Tooo funny! Did he cross paths with Lord Dain as well?

message 23: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (ghemomma) | 900 comments Who is Lord Dain?

Danielle- my husband asks me that every time I sit down to write my reviews! But seriously, I do not have the vocabulary to write a book! But, I can definitely think up some interesting scenarios for stories!

message 24: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments Oh that would be so cool for all my favorites to intersect. It would be like a crossover (you know like when Miami CSI goes to New York). LOL.

Lord Dain is the hero of Lord of Scoundrels. My favorite book of all time. Favorite hero of all time. Favorite heroine and couple of all time.

Cheryl, you have quite an imagination. Maybe one day something will come to you. I write, and it's hard work most of the time. I don't think I'm that creative, but I have been bitten by the writing bug, all the same.

Yes! A crossover for our favorites! That would be so much fun coming up with that! Hmmm, which characters would I want to intersect?

I am going to find that book, Lord Of Scoundrels soon! The other book I read by Loretta Chase I LOVED! So I know I will love that one, especially since you love it!

Yes, maybe one day I will write something...

message 26: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

message 30: by Verity (new)

Verity | 21 comments I normally am not a fan of virginal heroes (w/ the exception of Jamie Fraser), but I gotta tip my hat @ heroes who keep a tight rein on their self-imposed celibacy after they lost their former partner, until they fix their attention on the heroine.

Dhestiny, LOL... LK's backlist isn't that extensive, so savor every book 'cuz soon U'll run outta LK books in your TBR.

I luv Ross 'cuz he's passionate & protective. As soon as he meets Sophia, he 'stands up' in his chambers =P LK didn't waste any time in showing how attentive he was.

I agree with this statement, although I love the virginal heroes, too. All that pent up male energy! (Shivering)

Fear of running out is why I haven't read the wallflower series yet. They are in my pile waiting, and one weekend I will rip into them. But I love that they are sitting there waiting for me so I can savor the moment when I get to dig in!!

message 37: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments I save books up too, Bekah. That's what I did with the Hathaways. But then, I found I couldn't put off the next book the way I wanted to.

message 38: by [deleted user] (new)

Hell, just re-read them! No need to save them ladies!

message 39: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments Heidi I would, but I have tbr pile guilt. I don't allow myself much time for rereading. I might have change that, though.

message 40: by Bekah, Fellow Kleypasaholic (new)

Bekah (bekah317) | 2750 comments one of the reasons I buy is so that I can reread, but I don't do so well with rereads. There has to be a long long time between reads for me to be able to successfully reread a book. Even then, even if I absolutely adored the book, it's hard for me to get into it a second time - I think its primarily like Danielle I just have too many other books to get to in my tbr pile.

ALPHA MALE thats all I can say!

message 42: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments Yes, Sir Ross is definitely an alpha male (in the best way).

message 43: by Laura (new)

Laura (laurastamps) Oh, how wonderful!!! A thread for my fav guy. Yummm! I have been thinking a lot about Sir Ross and you know what? I wouldn't call him an Alpha. Not only because I can't stand Alphas, but because he had too many Beta traits to be a true Alpha.

I would call him a Gamma (part Alpha/part Beta). And I adore Gammas. They are my fav heroes. Yes, Ross was protective of the ones he loved and assertive and dangerous to the bad guys. That's an Alpha.

But he was also compasionate. He could talk about the touchy-feely stuff with Sophia. He listened to her for as long as it took for her to explain her feelings, thoughts, and opinions. Alphas are in too much of a hurry for that. Also, he didn't dismiss her opinions/feelings or try to dominate her like most Alphas are prone to do.

I think that's why so many adore him. He was a true Gamma with the best traits of an Alpha and a Beta, making him not only sensuous and sexy, but also compassionate and unafraid to express his emotions in a way that a woman can handle. Most Alphas get the moody thing going, clam up, and stomp off, leaving us to guess what they are thinking and feeling. Ross never did that.

Grant and Nck were true Alphas. The heroines in those novels were always having to guess what these men were feeling or thinking. They had to smile and brush off those hero's attempts to dismiss them or dominate them. Ross never did that.

You know what this means, right? I want my own Sir Ross!!! *dashing off to find him* lol

Laura you said it. ;) I want my own Ross as well. Maybe we should start a hunting party...since we are talking Alpha, gammas, and betas. Though, I'm not sure the difference. I'll have to look it up. I just got a glimpse of Ross as I attempted to read LSL but got distracted by Ward at the time. Now that I've read this thread I'll have to pick him back up again

message 46: by Laura (new)

Laura (laurastamps) Alrightyyyy! Great idea, gf!! Let's get a hunting party ready for Sir Ross cause I WANT him! *lusty grin*

In romance novels, Alphas tend to be the agrressive/protective/leader/dominant type. They have no patience with emotional stuff, even though they tend to be rather moody (think Derek Craven in the first 300 pages of "Dreaming of You").

Betas are the opposite. They are compasionate, nurturing, very comfortable with talking about emtional stuff. They have no desire to dominate anyone. They are lovers not fighters.

Gammas are a combination of both. I don't know if you have read any of my novels but being that Alphas tend to piss me off (I know too many in real life *lol*) all my heroes are Gammas (Donnie, Wynn, Dray) or Betas (Blaine).

By all means, read "Lady Sophia's Lover" again and let Ross have 100% of your attention. You will adore him even more!

message 47: by Annie (new)

Annie (prplskys) Oh boy! I'm thinking I like me some Gammas. True alphas would just piss me off and i'd end up wanting to hurt something. ;) I'm working on getting my ebook reader, no worries and I'll keep you posted on my progress through your books. I find myself wanting to read yours instead of Kleypas! Agh! Thanks for explaining the difference! Now I've also hear of an Omega as in referenced to a female (I think Patricia briggs' books). What does that mean?

message 48: by Laura (last edited Jul 01, 2010 08:52PM) (new)

Laura (laurastamps) Actually, I am an Omega. Omegas are more rare than Alphas, Betas, and Gammas. An Omega is a Beta with healing abilities (I have healing in my hands). In a wolf pack they are the most valued (and always female) cause their calming/healing personalities keep the Alphas from killing each other.

Thus, my plight in life. Alphas adore me. They are attracted to me like bees to a honeypot. Wes says he only gets into trouble when I leave town. But after 5 decades of being surrounded by a$$hole Alphas I'm more inclined to let them tear each other apart, ya know? Good riddance! *falls over laughing*

Yeah, if you adore Gammas you would love my sexy heroes, Donnie, Wynn, and Dray. It took me two months after I finished "What Witches Want" to get over Donnie. And when "Call of the Witches" came out in 2008 the ladies on GR said Blaine was the sexiest Beta hero they had ever read. Betas are rare in novels, but he is soooooo sexy and sweet. Yummm! Right now "The Witchery Series" novels are in paperback ("What Witches Want" and "Call of the Witches") and you can buy signed copies on my vamp site. But they should be in ebook by the end of July.

message 49: by Annie (new)

Annie (prplskys) Whoop! Great. And thanks again for explaining. I would have googled but no telling what I would have come up with. Healing powers...I believe it. The transfer of positive energy, calming energies, replacing the negative. I've always been fascinated by the theory/practice. On another note- I just devoured Kleypas' secrets of a summer night. I LOVE this book. More specifically Simon Hunt. OMG can I just marry him now please? Please? I'm a good person, Simon would love me. And HOW does LK do this?? I swear people are just born with too much talent. They must hoard it from life to life...

message 50: by Laura (new)

Laura (laurastamps) Oooooh, is that one of the Hathaways? If so it's on my TBR list to read. Cool, you can have Simon and I will take Sir Ross. Yummmy! Yeah, we've been good girls (kinda). We deserve some hunky guys! ;)
