UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Blue-Eyed Devil (Travises, #2) by Lisa Kleypas

***Meet the blue-eyed devil

His name is Hardy Cates. He’s a self-made millionaire who comes from the wrong side of the tracks. He’s made enemies in the rough-and-tumble ride to the top of Houston’s oil industry. He’s got hot blood in his veins. And vengeance on his mind.

Meet the heriess

She’s Haven Travis. Despite her family’s money, she refuses to set out on the path they’ve chosen for her. But when Haven marries a man her family disapproves of, her life is set on a new and dangerous course. Two years later, Haven comes home, determined to guard her heart. And Hardy Cates, a family enemy, is the last person she needs darkening her door or setting her soul on fire.

Watch the sparks fly...

Filled with Lisa Kleypas’s trademark sensuality, filled with characters you love to hate and men you love to love, Blue-Eyed Devil will hold you captive in its storytelling power as the destiny of two people unfolds with every magical word.***

Anne OK (anne-ok) | 99 comments I was on Lisa Kleypas's website this morning and discovered a new tidbit of info to me. In her Q&A section, she reveals that Blue-Eyed Devil is her all-time favorite. Here's her words,

Usually my favorite one is the one I happen to be working on at the time . . . but "Blue Eyed Devil" is probably my all-time favorite.

I had never read or heard a hint on this before. It surprised me a bit. Thought probably she would favor a historical. I'm anxious to see what her new contemporary series will be like.

Anne OK (anne-ok) | 99 comments Although "Smooth Talking Stranger" is my favorite, the entire trilogy was captivating from the beginning and I believe I preferred "Blue-Eyed Devil" over "Sugar Daddy." But every book was typical Kleypas -- fabulous!

I like both BED and SD but I like SD more I can't wait to read STS they say that one is awesome

Carolyn F. I'm listening to the audiobook and it is really good so far. I was listening to CD 2 while I was in the shower last night and then stayed in the bathroom another 1/2 hour because it got really good. It was the part about Haven leaving Nick and all that went on. Very engrossing.

Jessa ♥ EvilDarkSide (metalgirl80) I'm enjoying this one so far. I have to say that I knew I would love Hardy and I do, of course, but Haven's best friend (Todd) is a riot. I'm liking him a lot. He is hilarious. I busted out laughing when he referred to an erection as Lap-taffy. LMFAO! What a way to put it. *snickers*

Koosh | 90 comments I totally loved Todd too! I liked how he could be this quirky enlightened bff for girly moments and then this strong reassuring male friend when a girl needs a shoulder to lean on. Having him as a bestfriend is like a bonus 2-in-1. Lol.

Carol Cork *Young at Heart Oldie* (httpsrakesandrascalswordpresscom) | 2140 comments Love Todd because he's so funny - such as when he tells Haven about his eccentric parents' exploits and his comments to Haven when he first meets Hardy. BTW did anyone notice that his surname is Phelan the same as Christopher in 'Love in the Afternoon'?

message 11: by Koosh (new)

Koosh | 90 comments @___@ That soooo did not strike me until you mentioned it. So it is Phelan! LK must either like that name or has run out of ideas. Lol.

♥ℳelody (melodiousimagination) | 314 comments I'm reading this right now and omg. I want to punch Nick in the face. Good lord what an abusive a-hole. Poor Haven. I already know where it's going and feel like I should close my eyes.

And yes Carol my mind immediately went to Christopher (my dream husband lol) when Todd was introduced into the story. What a coincidence. Hmm...I guess maybe Kleypas was running out of last names to use. LOL.

Bekah (bekah317) | 2750 comments The first part of this book is hard to take, but I do love when Gage comes and gets her. A good man, a good brother, perfection!

Sue This is one of my favourite LK novels if not my most favourite.

The systematic abuse of Haven by Nick section was extremely well written and very harrowing. Towards the end of this section I put my rubbed my face with hand hoping there was not much more of this abuse to read, (how do people cope with this in the real world).

Loved Hardy Cates. Loved the lift scene when Haven is stuck in the lift which is flooding with water and she rings Hardy and tell him she needs him and 'he does not miss a beat' and ask where she is and rescues her. Some men would probably but 'I'm on the golf course, I'm with the boys, I'm down the pub/club, Why don't you dial 911/999' etc.

I loved the fact that no matter how angry Hardy would feel, he would never take it out on Haven.

I like how Hardy was unsure of whether he would make a good father or not (total opposite of pycho Nick.

As I said my favourite LK novel.

Celeste (cesih) | 7 comments I agree, that was my favorite scene as well.

message 18: by Maria (new)

Maria (majica26) | 6 comments This book in the series was special because it touches on the issue of abuse. That being said, I'm glad there was some redemption for Hardy. Also, I really want a lot of loose ends tied up at some point maybe in a 5th book because I would not want Joe's story to be overshadowed with these details.

For example, why is Gage so slow to smile? It can't just be personality...and so private Haven had never been to his home until he brings her there to recover? Lisa has some esplainin to do! When is the family (other than Gage, Liberty, and Hardy) going to become aware of what Haven suffered at the hands of Nick? I cringed everytime someone unknowingly overstepped their boundaries What does eventually happen to Nick after all those threats to have his life ended (more than jail)? What about Vanessa; how does she get off so easy? What she did was a crime that almost gets Haven killed...and she walks away unscathed? What about Hope and Hardy having a baby? Didn't happen in book 3. Also I was left with questions about Hardy's dad and brother. So many questions!

message 19: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments I don't think some of those will be revisited, Maria. Specifically, Haven's abuse and what happened to Nick and Vanessa.

I would like to know if Haven and Hardy have a baby. If Liberty has another one and even if Ella and Jack expand their family.

message 20: by Maria (new)

Maria (majica26) | 6 comments You are probably right. Pipe dreams lol

message 21: by ♥ℳelody (new)

♥ℳelody (melodiousimagination) | 314 comments I really hope Jack and Ella expand their family. Love Jack <3. Same with Hardy and Haven.

I'm a sucker for continuity in a series and LK is a dream at it. I adored seeing Gage and Liberty with their growing family in the last two books. Too cute. :P

message 22: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments Yes, and what of Liberty starting a string of hair salons? What came of that?

message 23: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments Gosh. Just finished listening to this one again. I think this is one of those rare books I like more and more each time I revisit it.
