UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Suddenly You by Lisa Kleypas

*** She was unmarried, untouched and almost thirty, but novelist Amanda Briars wasn't about to greet her next birthday without making love to a man. When he appeared at her door, she believed he was her gift to herself, hired for one night of passion. Unforgettably handsome, irresistibly virile, he tempted her in ways she never thought possible. . .but something stopped him from completely fulfilling her dream.

Jack Devlin's determination to possess Amanda became greater when she discovered his true identity. But gently bred Amanda craved respectability more than she admitted, while Jack, the cast-off son of a nobleman and London's most notorious businessman, refused to live by society's rules. Yet when fate conspired for them to marry, their worlds collided with a passionate force neither had expected. . . but both soon craved. ***

Cheryl (ghemomma) | 900 comments Oh Yes!! Do read it because it is amazing!! Here is my favorite quote from it:

How do I look?" Amanda asked.
Jack shook his head ruefully as he glanced at her. No one could mistake the remaining flush on her cheeks, or the soft sparkle of her eyes, or her lusciously swollen mouth, for anything other than the results of physical passion. "Like you've been ravished," he said flatly.
She astonished him by smiling. "Hurry, please. I want to go inside my house and consult a looking glass. I've always wanted to know what a ravished woman looks like.

Oh it was soooo good...

Verity | 21 comments This book will always have a special place in my heart 'cuz not only it has my most beloved theme, cougars, but also it's a shiny showcase for LK's unique talent. She's outdone herself w/ this book =^D I've re-read this book several times & Jack is still 1 of my most fav heroes in romancelandia, alongside Hunter.

Bekah (bekah317) | 2750 comments I loved Jack too! He was so yummy. And confident, and sexy. I loved when she finds out that he's 5 years younger than her! This was such a cute and sexy and romantic book. Ugh...they had such a great relationship!

Well, I usually come up with them on the spur of the moment. Some others I enjoy are "...a frog's fat fanny" and ..."a bull's left nut" and few even less tactful ones than those. LOL

I guess it's like my daddy always said... "I can't take you anywhere." LOL That was usually accompanied by "You've got diarreah of the mouth and constipation of the brain."

First of all... Because of everyone's raves about this book, I plan on reading Suddenly You as soon as I'm finished with the Wallflowers series. :)

And second...those videos featuring everyone's new man Giulio? I guess I must have stared at him too much yesterday, because he ended up being the star of quite a lovely dream i had last night. *nods*

I hope my dreams are as good as yours last night, Holly!

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

I have spent way to much time wacthing the youtube clip too(even tho I did get all the laundry done in between),and now have gone straight to watching the entire mini series, I have gotten in 40 minutes of 14 hours worth of Giulio...and I am not sure the 14 hours will be enough! Also, I never realize how close to Spanish, Italian is, I can actually understand some of what they are talking about! Not that I care, I just wanna look, not listen! Body language is a wodnerful thing! His freaking eyes, and that mouth(licks lips), holy cow batman!

message 25: by Holly (new)

Holly (velvetsun) | 144 comments I love coming back to Goodreads and seeing that so many people have changed their profile pics to Giulio. LOL

I plan on watching more of the mini-series later. I keep going back to that original fan made video that KarenH posted in the Yummy thread...That opening shot of him kills me every time.

Oh, and yeah...the dream was memorable. :)

Holly (velvetsun) | 144 comments I was planning on reading this right after I finished the Wallflowers series, but the person I bought the book from on Paperback Swap is being super slow in sending it to me.

I have all of LK's books for my Kindle, but I want hard copies of her books. A sure sign she's one of my favorite authors now! :)

Bekah (bekah317) | 2750 comments Tell me about your kindle. Do you love it? Do you commute? What made you decide to buy it? I've been thinking about it, but i just LOVE books, and the feel of a book in my hand and no matter how I try to reason that I might need an excuse to buy one...I just can't do it. Can you help?? :-)

message 30: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments I'm with you, Bekah. I've been thinking about buying one, but the cost! Oye! And the books aren't that much cheaper than paperback, either. But.........

It would have been nice to have one on my vacation, rather than toting all those books along.

Decisions, decisions!

I can honestly say the Kindle was worth every penny. I truly love it. And even though i still like to hold a book in my hands, the Kindle is invaluable as far as being able to have a bunch of books with in a nice little package. :)

One of the things i like most, is the text to speech option. So when I'm driving to and from work i can listen to a book, and than just pick it back up where I left off at my destination.

message 32: by Pamela(AllHoney) (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) Suddenly You was pretty good. Not my fave of LK but good. Jack was definitely hero worthy but Amanda made me mad a few times. I know she had her insecurities but I wanted to slap her a time or two.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments There have been very few authors, only 4 in fact, who once I start reading their books, I can't stop until I've read them all - J.R. Ward Julie Garwood Lisa Kleypas and Kathleen Givens

I am trying so very hard to savor Lisa Kleypas - to pace myself - but it is sooooooooooo hard to do!

I did the same thing with JR Ward! And I know what you mean about trying to make LK's books last, but it's not working out that way. Suddenly You is my 8th book in a row. LOL

I'm glad you are finding "Proof By Seduction" to be so good! I loved Esmerelda and her stuffy Marquess. They certainly entertained me with their battle of wills.

It was that "battle of wills" that reminded me of Lord of Scoundrels!! This morning I actually cried when reading ***slight spoiler*** the part where Gareth finally told his sister that he had always loved her. ***END SPOILER**** I'm not on good terms with one of my brothers and that scene made me think about it a lot.

Depends on ur taste but there are several I think are better. But I did enjoy Suddenly You a bunch. She has some series... Bow Street Runners, Wallflowers, Hathaways to name a few and there are some standalones too. I think there is a thread on here somewhere with a list of her novels.

Thank you!

Jessa ♥ EvilDarkSide (metalgirl80) I love Jack Devlin. He is naughty, sexy, confident and not to mention he's got some Irish in him....what's not to love! This was another good story by LK. It was quite a bit higher in the steam factor, which was totally fine by me. I nearly choked when I read the "raspberry scene". O-M-G!!! Holy hotness.

message 45: by MashJ (last edited Oct 30, 2010 01:01AM) (new)

MashJ | 733 comments I have been rereading Suddenly You on and off in the car (there are major roadworks going on in Plymouth at the moment so I get plenty of "stopped" time). I have realised that the reason I didn't particularly take to it before was Amanda.

I don't seem to like her much although I respect her career and living independently at a time when that was difficult for a woman to do. I find her constant need of warmth a bit irritating and I think her brown and orange striped dress didn't really appeal (she constantly seemed to have very complex overheavy clothing)!! She seemed to me to be a very inactive/indoors sort of person- I'm more of an active outdoors type so I guess that was where the problem lay. I preferred heroines like Lily and Emma and Lottie and Sara. Anyway I am definitely a Jack convert and I though the plot worked quite nicely although there were no edge of your seat moments.

message 46: by Bekah, Fellow Kleypasaholic (new)

Bekah (bekah317) | 2750 comments I loved Jack, especially when the age difference aspect came into the plot...it made him that much more appealing to me.

message 47: by Julianna (last edited Oct 30, 2010 07:02PM) (new)

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 380 comments I was surprised to find the age difference very appealing to me too. I think this was my first older woman/younger man romance. I didn't think I would like the theme, but through reading this one and a couple of other books, I discovered that it can be a very fun change of pace.

Suddenly You wasn't one of my favorite LK books, but it was very good. The love scenes were quite spicy. Yummm! I'll never look at raspberries the same way again. LOL!;-) I remember my favorite scene being the one where Jack tells Amanda all favorite parts with her intellect being at the top of the list.
