What do you think about Global Warming? Do you think it's our fault? Do you think we should do something, like cut down on pollution? I do.

Xerxes Break(Vivian Ephona) (ephona) I think we should do something. Just little every day things like turning off the lights is a good way. Also, a little fact, The Maldives (I think that's what they are; it's a tiny group of islands) are sueing the world for global warming. It's...rather unpractical.

message 3: by Allie (new)

Allie (pearlrose95) *sigh* this is so controversial.
I don't think we really need to worry as much as we are about this. I think it's a natural part of the worlds cycle- it gets hot, then cold, hot, then cold, and it's not like we can do anything to stop this. Do I think we should stop polluting the air and littering? Of course. But I don't think that we need to make such a big deal as people are.

Xerxes Break(Vivian Ephona) (ephona) I'm not too big on it but I am big on the environment.

message 5: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (v_a_b) I think it can cause cancer because of the high radiation or whatever. I'm not positive though.

And about global warming, even if it is a cycle, we don't have to speed it up.

That reminds me of something. Did you know that the sun will become a red giant in 5 billion years? It's main-sequence star time is half over. It finished forming 5 billion years ago. Wait, that might not be right... let me check...yes it is right. It also took about 10 million years to become a main seqence star. Isn't that really cool?

I think it is! I love science!!!!!!!

message 6: by Sella (new)

Sella Malin I definitely think it's our fault, and that we should do something. I once read a scary article that said that no matter what we do, global warming WILL HAPPEN ANYWAY!! But if we make differences, maybe it won't be so severe.

message 7: by Allie (new)

Allie (pearlrose95) I agree Sella. I think we could make it a bit better, but not completely stop it. Like i said, i think it's the earth's cycle.

message 8: by Katie (new)

Katie | 312 comments last year, my science teacher (theyre trying to fire him) was showing us The Inconveinient Truth movie and trying to convert us to think it was global warming. and he was just wack. he also was sharing his opinion about GWBush and trying to make us go against him. so my opinion...i dont really know. but i like the idea of dumping a giant ice cube in the ocean. lol

Xerxes Break(Vivian Ephona) (ephona) I don't think global warming is that bad YET. Up here in Utah right now, it's blowing cold. And it might snow tomorrow in places.

message 10: by Sella (new)

Sella Malin Well, in CA, it was BURNING HOT when it was supposed to be cold!

message 11: by Katie (new)

Katie | 312 comments yeah. actually, i was in LA over the weekend and it was 95. today it drizzled farther south during PE. and my meanie teacher made us keep playing lacrosse!

message 14: by Katie (new)

Katie | 312 comments yup. burns totally. i learned nothing that we needed to learn. actually all i learned was how to use the ten year old mac computers in the lab..... pier is pe teacher.

message 15: by Allie (new)

Allie (pearlrose95) pier not pierce? ha i liked mr. pier he was funny, katie dillon with creamy fillin.... but he wuz kinda mean sometimes. is he meaner in PE or something?

message 16: by Katie (new)

Katie | 312 comments o ya he is! today, he bet on us...isnt that illegal? mr peirce bet mr peir that half our class couldnt run two laps(almost a mile) in under eight minutes....the bet was for a hundred dollars or a steak dinner depending on who won. course, mr peir win but he yelled at us for slowing down, even though at least three fourths of us got six minutes thirty seconds or under....

message 17: by Allie (new)

Allie (pearlrose95) ha that's funny! i don't think it's illegal if it's just 4 fun. well it might be but it's ok. so did he get the money or the steak? remember how he always made fun of mr. pierce counting last year?

message 18: by Katie (new)

Katie | 312 comments yeah that was funny. WUH-UN, TWUOOOO, THAREEEEEEEE, FUHOUR, FIHIVE, SIIIIX, SAYVUHN, A_YATE. NI-UHN, AND RE-UST.
mr pierce is like some army guy who retired and decided to teach PE at a school. great disicion, huh?

message 19: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 3 comments well, honestly, i mean I think the issue of Global Warming is not getting the slightest bit of attention it really needs!. Where are our government officials and their standpoint? We need to take action!

message 20: by Katie (new)

Katie | 312 comments there was something i heard that there was this bill to lower use of energy for countries around the world, and the us was one of the only countries that didnt sign it...was that right?

message 22: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ arrrgh. i hate global warming. it's just so depressing that our planet is slowly dying. and it annoys me so much that i have to hear about it so often. i mean, people start to talk about it so much that it doesn't even seem scary anymore. it's just like, "okay. so the world is going to end. i hear it every day. it's getting old." and because of this, people aren't really doing anything about it. they're just like, "someone else will deal with it" or "i'll do something to save the planet later". i wish that i didn't have to hear about it so much (especially from maximum ride. i mean, really. WHY?!) maybe if people would stop being so annoying about it, we would all actually do something.

Felicity/Rosestar (felicity) | 39 comments I know the world is heating up, but I don't think that we are the cause of it. People keep saying, "Stop polluting, save the environment," but they drive, just like everyone else. I also believe in the cycle. What comes up, always comes down. And what goes down, usually gets back up. Besides, we are only kids/teens we can't do much. The only thing we can really do is get a recycling bin for our houses and recycle.

message 24: by Allie (new)

Allie (pearlrose95) yay! wow i agree with basically everything felicity hasbeen saying.

message 25: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ yeah, felicity that's the sad thing. by the time global warming really has a horrible effect on the world, the people who mostly caused it will be dead, while we kids, who are pretty helpless when it comes to global warming, will be the ones who have to suffer through it. :(

Felicity/Rosestar (felicity) | 39 comments I think that by the time that we grow up, the world be back to the whole global cooling concept. No human caused global warming. Remember how hot it was when the dinosaurs were around? No human was there to cause that. And right after that was the ice age, again, not caused by humans.

message 27: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ idk. pollution isn't the only thing that causes global warming, but it has a big impact on the world.

Felicity/Rosestar (felicity) | 39 comments I do think that we should pollute a little less. I don't mean stop driving, but cleaning up our cities.

message 29: by C'est Moi ♪ (new)

C'est Moi ♪ | 59 comments No more pollution! Actually, I do believe in Global Warming, and we really need to help the enviornment. I'm not totally obsessed with it, but it is a controversial issue in society nowadays.

message 30: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ yeah, same. i'm not totally obsessed w/it, and i get kind of annoyed when i keep hearing about it EVERYWHERE. (i mean, the fourth maximum ride book being all about global warming???? What???!!! that's just not right...) but it still concerns me. i mean, i don't want the world to end. no one does. but even small things can make a difference, like remembering to turn the light off when you leave a room, or taking shorter showers, or sometimes walking or biking instead of driving, etc. it's not much, of course, but it if everyone did those little things then it would build up and global warming would be less of a concern.

message 31: by Waffle...♥ (new)

Waffle...♥ (rawritzwaffle) | 94 comments *sigh* All this going on is making me feel so small because it's like, out of our hands. I mean like... who made the decision for the world to go hot all of a sudden? And us fearing the sun is going to turn into a Red Giant and swallow us whole? I definetely feel VERY small. :<

message 32: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ not to sound emo or anything, but when i think about the end of the world it's really depressing, cuz it's like "what's the point of life???" when the world ends, all the history and achievements of mankind (or any other creature for that matter) will be gone in an instant. and that's just too weird to wrap my head around...

message 38: by Allie (new)

Allie | 15 comments I really don't know enough to know if I support global warming. And let's face it, most laypeople don't. However, if the threat of global warming makes people take responsibility for themselves then I'm all for the propoganda.

On average, Americans produce over 2 tons of electrical waste (cell phones, tvs, laptops, etc) in their lifetimes. Even England is half of that. We use twice as much water as England per person per day which is more than 20 times what the average person in the world uses. I use very little resources- if I'm going any less than 2 miles, I walk. If not, I take public transportation. I don't use air conditioning. I conserve water (if it's yellow, let it mellow). I recycle, reuse, donate, and compost. Despite living very much reduced from the average American, it would take 2.2 planets to support my usage of natural resources.

The world will hit an energy crisis, water crisis, and food crisis within our lifetime. It's not a question of "if" but a question of "when". When gas hits $4 a gallon, think about how we're going to get food. Most of what we eat is transported to us. My grandfather owns a trucking company that transports vegetables from California to New England and all of cost of higher diesel fuel is going to go to the consumers. I know how much my grocery bill is going up as compared to wages and it's just not sustainable. The water is drying up in the lake in my hometown that supports the water infrastructure of all of metro Atlanta.. and there are fishing villages around Lake Chad in Africa that are now miles from the shore. I've also read that the aquifer supporting the midwest farm belt will be depleted within 20 years.

My environmental chem professor who is a senior consultant for the EPA told us on the first day of class, "it's not the rising oceans that you need to worry about- it's the fact that you're so packed full of chemicals that your body won't decompose when you're dead". :P

message 39: by Waffle...♥ (new)

Waffle...♥ (rawritzwaffle) | 94 comments And to think, many people don't know about this, or care. I really miss the old days where we actually work for our food and the populations are low. I guess, all we can do right now is do our best to help the planet and make everyday a great day as much as possible, we don't know when crisis is going to hit but we know it will, so what's the point of fussing over it? But I am really, really scared. :<

Felicity/Rosestar (felicity) | 39 comments I'm with Waffle, let's just try to stay happy and make each day worth while. I don't think that any crisis will take place before we can fix it. Besides, here in Tucson, the gas prices are still fairly low, like 2.30. I think. Let's all just relax and do what we can. Don't worry about food. We will always have something to eat. Maybe we will learn to grow more and find ways of producing more with the little spaces we have. Hasn't anybody heard about the seed vault?
