WACC- Writers Against Cardboard Characters discussion

Name: Harvey ________ Madison
Age: Uhm. He's in three stories, so 13, 15, and 26.
Appearence: Slightly curly medium brown hair, dark blue eyes, tan. He's about 5'6" and relatively muscular.
Things you know about the character so far: He's our lovely Mitchell's 2nd closest friend. He's quiet with a subtle sense of humor. I think I might have him be really easy going, but he has a limit. He's really loyal.
Things you know about the character's past: Uh, well, he's been friends with Mitchell and Nicky for a while and Mitch used to be really mean, so I'm trying to figure out why the heck they were friends. (Mitch was only mean to this one nerdy kid, BTW, not Harvey)
Where you think the character will end up: Uh, he's not uber-important, but I still say he's flat and it's bugging me.
What you want help with: A little of everything. He needs quirks, interests, FLAWS, a reason to have been friends with Mitch through what I call the "Zjark Phase"....

Oh, I'll just add this, but he's okay with being "second best". Like, it doesn't bother him that Mitch and Nicky are best friends and he's kind of...well, second best.

Snarky is more like, uh, the teenaged version of Mitchell. Harvey's much sweeter.

Well, Mitch gets nicer when he's like, 15. Before that he's very snarky.

Yes! I'll use all of those! For me, his fave band being the Beatles is a total flaw.

When did he become friends with Mitchell? Maybe Mitch made a really snide comment to him when he was getting annoying, so Harvey thought "This guy can be as mean as I am! He's cool!" I dunno. That make sense?

Could Harvey be really freaked out by girls? Or he could be a bit of a ladies' man, since he's so loyal and sweet.

Mitch and Harvey have been friends since they were like, four. I don't think the "Cool, he's as mean as I am" thought will work, because A) Harvey is such a sweetie and B)they were, uhm, four when they met.

Maybe he gets too involved sometimes. If he's really loyal, he might want to be helpful but doesn't know when to let it go... am I making sense?

But it could still work.

Just making a suggestion. You don't have to use it. I was meaning the more concerned kind, though, not "Are you okay? Huh? Tell me! Tell me! What is it?"

I know. I think I might use it, actually. But he'll drop it if you tell him to.
