Chandra, thanks for starting a thread for Sarah Waters. I look forward to being able to comment and it's helpful to know which were your favourites.

Paula | 184 comments I read Tipping the Velvet a few months ago, and was just enthralled. It was a new genre for me, and as sheltered as this sounds had never read fiction with homosexual couples as the main focus. I thought it was brilliant, and I had a hard time putting the book down. I loved how the author managed to capture the essence of the city, the grit, the sociopolitical turmoil and still remain focused on the life of one poor soul.

Needless to say, I bought Affinity and Fingersmith right away, but those two are still sitting patiently on my TBR shelf.

Paula | 184 comments No, alas, I tend not to watch movie versions of books. I tend to play my own movie version in my head while I read, so often feel let down or disillusioned when I watch actual movie adaptations.

I hope to read the next book soon, so I'll be sure to come back here and add comments :)

I felt the same way about recommending her books; I don't want to offend anyone but I loved the book. I don't typically like books that have any strong sexual content (just my personal taste, is all) but there was so much to enjoy in this book outside of that!

Peregrine | 91 comments I saw Fingersmith and agree that it was excellent. The DVD notes call it a Victorian thriller, and it sure is, with startling plot twists and heroines in peril. I got Tipping the Velvet for Christmas; I'm doing some TBR catchup before I read that one.
