Has anyone read The Catcher in the Rye or any of his other works? What did you think of them?

I read 'Catcher in the Rye' in high school and wasn't thrilled. Maybe it was because at the time I just couldn't relate, but I did not enjoy reading it. I should probably attempt to give it a reread though.

stormhawk | 1184 comments Although you're supposed to read Catcher in the Rye in high school, I somehow managed not to do so (I guess it was a College Prep Book and I avoided it by taking Accellerated classes).

You know how all the serial killers and high profile assassin types always seem to have a copy, like Mark David Chapman or John Hinkley, Jr.? We have this one guy that comes in to my office, he's really creepy, like he's a serial killer who hasn't figured out who he's going to hunt yet ... he carries a copy.

Steven Belanger | 43 comments I love Catcher, and I'm (relatively) normal. Please read it again. Plenty of people who have killed others also had a copy of the Bible at home, if you know what I'm sayin'. The Unabomber used to read The New York Times and the Constitution religiously.

Give Holden Caulfield another try. You won't regret it.
