In all honesty I read this first in December when it was just released and I haven't gotten the time to reread it but here is what I remember.

1. Which character do you like the most and why? The least and why? - Loved Evy. Evy is my kind of girl tough and resourceful but with her own vulnerabilities and a strong moral compass.

2. What passage from the book stood out to you?- “I didn’t know if you loved me, and now I don’t think you did. But that’s okay, because I never asked you to. Everything I did was my choice, and mine alone.” That's when Wyatt was redeemed in my eyes. A man accepting his responsiblilty for the situation that caused.

3. Are there situations and/or characters you can identify with, if so how? I identify mostly with Evy, as I do with most UF heroines, because like Evy they are usual thrown in situations they aren't prepared for and usually have to take charge....story of my life!

4. Did you learn something you didn’t know before? Yep I learned what a Dreg Bounty Hunter is, "they hunt rogue elements, carry out special warrants, try to keep some species from killing one another and wreaking havoc in the process and dole out punishment when lines are crossed." Also men can be so blind , I don't know how Wyatt couldn't see this was a trap. It screamed trap to me for the first time I heard about that leader the Wyatt trusted so much

5. Do you feel as if your views on a subject have changed by reading this text? Nope men are still blind as ever!

6. Have you had a life changing revelation from reading this text? Yep, my husband is a lucky bastard to have me to see for him! ;)

7. What major emotion did the story evoke in you as a reader? Honestly anger. I just felt like all of it could have been avoided if Wyatt was a bit less blind

8. At what point in the book did you decide if you liked it or not? What helped make this decision? I decided I liked it pretty early on. The scene in which Evy and Wyatt finally meet and Wyatt admitted he killed her, which in a way he did. I was hooked and the rest was history

9. Name your favorite thing overall about the book. Your least favorite? I liked Alex and all the scenes with him the fact that we was so willing to help even knowing his roommate was gone and Evy was the one in her body. The world itself was fascinating. It was a complex world of Triads, Handlers, Bloods and Elves that Ms Melding has developed.

10. If you could change something about the book what would it be and why?
This book is built around the question, whether Evy will survive those three days (and beyond) or not. In the story, all clues seem to be against it, but the discerning reader of urban fantasy knows better.

11. Describe what you liked or disliked about the writer’s style?
I am not a fan of the long internal dialogues if anything I would change that. That's why the book got a three star rating from me .

Lady Allison | 150 comments I just finished reading this book today! I was sort of hot & cold while I read it but considering I did so in 2 days, I ended up hooked. :) Can't wait to hear what everyone else thought!

1. Which character do you like the most and why? The least and why? Both Evy & Wyatt. Evy because I love a tough girl with a good heart & Wyatt because he lived to protect Evy & loved her - I'm a romantic, what can I say!

2. What passage from the book stood out to you? Okay, seriously, I was in the last few pages of this book & this whole thing was so action packed that this paragraph caught me off guard & I was sitting in the middle of Starbucks & cried because it was so wrought with emotion: "Until that moment, I'd never known the word 'heartbroken' as anything other than a metaphor yet as I gathered Wyatt in my trembling arms and held him to my chest, I felt it happen. Something inside me shattered, releasing rage and anguish unlike anything I'd ever felt - whole and feral and never-ending. I pitched headlong into the despair of loss, with the last person I cared for in the world dead in my arms."

3. Are there situations and/or characters you can identify with, if so how? Heartbreak. Ouch.

4. Did you learn something you didn’t know before? A lot! This world was completely new to me, very complex, I had to reread a couple descriptions.

5. Do you feel as if your views on a subject have changed by reading this text? Trolls can be nice too :)

6. Have you had a life changing revelation from reading this text? Can't say that I did

7. What major emotion did the story evoke in you as a reader? Excitement fueled by adrenaline (during fight/war scenes), sorrow/grief (during death/sacrifice scenes), horror (while Evy remembered her torture), affection (Evy/Wyatt/Alex interactions)

8. At what point in the book did you decide if you liked it or not? What helped make this decision? I was pretty hooked from the first chapter, it was quite an intriguing concept!

9. Name your favorite thing overall about the book. Your least favorite? I totally fell in love with the characters and their interactions and relationships.

10. If you could change something about the book what would it be and why? I know that it was the first book of the series so there was quite a bit of story building to do but the world was quite involved and hard to keep up with at times.

11. Describe what you liked or disliked about the writer’s style? I'm not a huge fan of extended fight scenes but for a debut writer she wrote them really well and the book was action packed but kept the intrigue going and the characters never fell flat. I was throughly impressed & fully intend on continuing this series!!!

Jackie (Literary Escapism) (literaryescapism) 1. Which character do you like the most and why? The least and why?
I'm not sure I would say there is one character that I liked the most or least. They were all good in their own right. I will say that I loved the role reversal between Evy and what's his name (sorry, I read this back in October and don't have a copy). I love the fact that it wasn't the female that was getting a little clingy.

2. What passage from the book stood out to you?
I wouldn't say it's a passage. Again, I read this book awhile ago, so nothing really sticks out, but I do have to say the city sticks out for me. There's a general layout given, but we really weren't told what was there. I like the fact that I'm going to get to explore the city as the books progressed and wasn't told everything up front.

8. At what point in the book did you decide if you liked it or not? What helped make this decision?
I can't say if there was any one point, but I liked the idea of a huge subculture of paranormals living under the radar. That we're given a city that's not laid open in front of us. That we're going to be able to explore it with each novel. That the chemistry between Evy and her man wasn't like many others.

Michelle (fireweaver) Jackie, i'm with you that the city itself was interesting. somehow, i was totallly convinced we were in the US, but i didn't find any specific clues that pointed us toward what (if any) real city we actually were in.

i loved the concept and the zippy plot pacing, but was anyone else kind of irked by knowing there was a sequel already planned, so, i.e., you already knew she was going to make it somehow?

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 22 comments I read this a few days ago. I thought the world was really interesting but I struggled to finish it. There was a brilliant first chapter and it was an intriguing concept but this book just didn't do it for me. I felt the story dragged and became never-ending. The outcome was completely predictable. The body count was HUGE. If I had to read this again I'd be tallying the number of bodies!

The blame game grew tiresome. Evy and Wyatt were both victims of manipulation so none of what takes place is their fault but they keep blaming themselves and each other until I just wanted to slap them.

Untangling the conspiracy was confusing, the characters went round and round in circles until I didn't know what they were talking about but then I all ready knew who the bad guy was so it didn't matter so much to me.

I thought the ending was awkward but necessary in order to have the happy ending that was needed after all of that death and destruction.

Max was probably my favourite character, I liked his sense of honour.

Guess I'm the odd one out in not liking this book as much as you guys.
