The only word to discribe him is....Patch. Some love him, some hate him. I thought him intriguing from the very start. With his whole dark, mysterious image, Nora just could not get away from him, mentally and physically. He's just...Patch. I didn't ever think of him to be an angel... He was too mischievous. What did you guys think?

I wasn't that crazy about him. I thought there were several times he should have been there helping Nora. In some ways, she was tougher than him.
I am one of those who utterly disliked Patch. There was nothing noble or positive about him, except for his sexual appeal (which I didn't quite get). He continually harassed Nora, attempted to kill her, held her at a knife point, shoved her around in dark places. No wonder Nora called him creepy half of the book
I had a love/hate relationship with Patch. He sounded so hot, but he was bad news. I also didn't really understand how Nora was afraid of him, but wanted him at the same time. He didn't really seem to have enough redeeming qualities to make her like him despite him wanting to kill her. He was good looking and it seems like that is all he had going for him. Her being drawn to him felt a little too unexplained to me...unless it was just him messing with her head and making her want him.
I agree Betsy, he sounded so hot, and let's face it, in large part because he was bad news. He is appealing because he is the type of boy you hide from your mother :) Not ideal for a lasting relationship, but fun to date.
HA HA! I also thought it was odd that Nora could want Patch and the same time she thought he was a creepy stalker/killer. I think he probably messed with her head......That's the only thing I got!
Yeah, I can't say that I've ever met someone that made think, concurrently, "I love you" AND "You remind me of a serial killer." Usually the latter sentiment negates the former. I couldn't understand Nora's infatuation with him. But I guess Patch was Edward with wings, so that explains it (I never understood why Bella was obsessed with him either). I wasn't terribly impressed with the novel BUT I read it in 3 days and I know that I'll read the sequel. The 15 year-old girl in me wins every time...
(I don't know where else to put this as there is no "Hush Hush with spoilers" topic, so sorry if this ends up in the wrong place)It's been a while since I listened to the audiobook and I'm a bit confused about all the angel mythology that is introduced in the book. Would someone be so kind to sum things up for me? Just the angel parts. My memory sucks but I remember that Patch is a fallen Angel and Dabria isn't, they used to be lovers when Patch was still an angel... Patch really wants to be human but can't be... and now he's Nora's Guardian angel which is a very low angel status.
Was that right? Anyone cares to add more details? :)
Like Infinite, I am a bit hazy on the details of the lore and have some questions too: I vaguely remember that Patch couldn't really feel anything physically (or something like that), but why then was he constantly trying to get into Nora's pants, what was the point of trying to get some if he can't feel anything?
Also, why Dabria, even after doing all kinds of vile things, was still an angel? What makes angels fall?
So, *nervous chuckle* I loved patch. But I always wanted Christine to pick the Phantom in the play ‘The Phantom of the Opera’.
Ha! I love the "Phantom of the Opera".
Anyway, long before Nora, Patch fell in love with a human girl. He went to Earth to be with her. He tryed to come back to heaven, but the avenging angels ripped off his wings. This is when he becomes "fallen." As for the human chick, she grew old and died.
Then, Dabria (his angel ex), confronts him and tells him how he can become a guardian angel if he saves someone who is about to die. Dabria tells him Nora Grey. But Patch has a different idea. There is a rumor, that in the Book of Enoch, if he kills a female decendent of Chauncy, a Nephil, Patch's vassel, he'll become human.
When Dabria trys to persuade Patch to become a guardian angel, she sees that the person trying to kill Nora is...Patch. Patch trys to kill Nora, but ends up falling in love with her. I think that pretty much sums things up.

I think he more lusted after a woman, before he fell, than truly loved her. He said something like "I wanted to posses her..." Which to me means lust.
Tatiana wrote: "Like Infinite, I am a bit hazy on the details of the lore and have some questions too: I vaguely remember that Patch couldn't really feel anything physically (or something like that), but why the..."
Patch still feels the emotional excitment of sexual acts... just not the physical sensation. He lusts for Nora... But it's an unsatisfyable lust.
For Dabria- she's has not tried to return to heaven yet, Patch says something like, "she would have lost her wings anyway for trying to kill you when she returned to heaven..."
Interesting...I always imagined the avenging angels tracking Dabria down. It just seemed like logic to me.
Jayne's the Name wrote: "Interesting...I always imagined the avenging angels tracking Dabria down. It just seemed like logic to me."Agreed. You would think they'd condemn her right away, but no, she can still roam around earth as an angel, until she attempts to return to Heaven...
yeah that part really confused me as well. I figured the avenging angels would show up in one hell of a light show and dewing the bi---I mean Dabria.
Thanks so much, Jayne, for summing things up!! :D I see things a bit more clearly now... even though it makes me feel like I should do some serious rereading :P
Whilst reading the book- as everyone here says theres that bad boy sex appeal that Patch has which makes girls all googley-eyed and go all jelloid but of course there's that omg-he's-hot-but-he's-a-raving-psycho type which also appalls and awes the audience at the same time (in a bad way).his character reminds me of some sort of a "Heathcliff" character- a horrible, bad, psycho but at the same time loveable (or in Patch's case- lustable). i think it's good that the author didn't make Patch's character as someone who's good in everything (this goes out to all the Edwards and Daniels (of Fallen) out there!) and like what one of the lovely posters above said- his hotness is all that he's got going for him... well for now... his character would continue to grow- and hopefully he'll become less of a creep or a cliche superboyfriend guardian angel in the future book.
I'm looking forward to the sequel. x
My biggest ponderings about Patch stemmed from the fact that he doesn't know much about "love" to have watched man kind for centuries at least. I mean, I know times have changed, but you would think a fallen angel would know something about human behavior, at least more than he does.
mm I loved Patch, and not only because he's hot. I'm guessing he's not a great with 'emotional' things, and if he was, then it would definitely be cliche. It's kinda part of the story that he is hard to understand and confusing at times.... um, ok, most of the time then.
I didn't always love Patch, but I always wanted to. That's got to count for something. Maybe it's because he was somewhat repentant that I could like him in the end.I wish Fitzpatrick had explained the angel lore a little more. Nora's standing on the rafters and she all of a sudden knows that if she sacrifices herself for Patch he'll be human when the only thing was explained to her was that if he kills her he can be human and I didn't quite get how that killed Jules.
Because he wants to be in control of his own destiny, also, I think he wanted to experience mortality for himself. You know, I don't think that Patch understands the human capacity of love, but I don't exactly fault him for that. I think that love is a human emotion, and I think mortality has to exist in order for you to express human emotions. For who knows how long, Patch was an angel, I could see that regardless of how many centuries he is on earth, certain human emotions/thoughts, will elude him simply based on the fact that he is other.
I think Patch was strange for not wanting to be a guardian angel, I mean, what's so wrong with that? I think he wanted to be human, so he could you know, be able to touch and feel and stuff. He had emotions, but couldn't feel what he did.
I've been wondering, if that's not Patch's body, just like a human dummy, then what does he really look like??

Strange question I guess...But, really, when I read I like to get a mental image of what the person looks like. In Patch's case...his original body. Wait...I'm confused. That wasn't his original body was it???
I liked Patch yet there were parts of him that I didn't like. If I knew someone like him in real life, I'd more than likely stay far away. That being said, it's typical for readers to find themselves attracted to the mysterious bad boy who's just misunderstood. I thought Patch was one of the more interesting characters if not the most interesting in Hush, Hush given his past and so on.
I liked Patch and for that reason I couldn't let myself believe he was trying to kill Nora until he fessed up to it. Even then I still found myself blaming everything on Elliot, who was supicious from the beginning to me.
I liked Patch, even though he originally was out to kill her. You had to see what his motives were, and how he pulled through that and realized that he couldn't do it. It showed that he was a stronger person. On the other hand I was suspicious of Elliot the whole time. Also the first time that Jules disappeared the first thought that came to my mind was he is avoiding Patch. Patch was just always at the top of my list!
Patch. *swoon*nuff said. lol
i loved Patch since the begining. he's can be bad, but he can also be good. he's a jerk sometimes but oh so intriguing.
i think he's amazing. usually cocky guys annoy me, but when he got like that with Nora, i was highly amused. i LOVEED the motel scene, not only cause it cleared up a lot of my questions, but because you could see his true feelings for Nora. he's the perfect angel :)
Sometimes I wasn't sure if Nora like him because of his mind control or if it was because she really liked him. Though I guess the book says that she could feel when someone was in her mind.
