The movie was actually pretty scary. I remember the first time I watched. I didn't sleep that night, granted that was at least 15 years ago (or so).
Read the book. Trust me, it's good. I had to sleep with my bathroom light on after I was done. I was okay the next day, but every little bump or noise just about made me jump out of my skin.
That sounds like true talent! It will be added to my TBR never ending pile.
I have also wanted to read The Exorcist. This is one of those genres that is out of my comfort zone.
This genre is also out of my comfort zone, I'm not a big scary movie person as well. I only have books TBR on my list for horror. This year I'll have to add a few read books.
I love watching horror movies (which no one ever takes me to see, so I don't see very many), but I don't read a lot of horror-based books. I would like to read and see The Exorcist though.
LOL, I'll have to look it up then. I like watching Horror movies, but no one else likes to so I never get to see most of them. Anyone seen The Happening? Would it be considered horror?
Okay, just making sure. My mom thinks it is, and it sorta creeps me out, so in my perspective, it's horror! :)
Wow, The Ring was def a horror. I remember watching it the first time. Yup, I think I drove to my friends for a slumber party. LOL! Good times. My friend dragged me to the movies this summer to Watch Drag me to Hell. All the jump spots were obivious, however, I was (I think) the only jumper/screamer in the joint. I slept fine. What was up with the fixation on that womans mouth. I can't believe she didn't learn to keep her trap closed!!
Oh, I started to read Salem's Lot and got really freaked out by it! I never did finish it, though. I should give it another try.
Oh! I didn't even know that there was another book that was in English! I'm going to have to get that one!I just finished Salem's Lot last week. It definitely had its chilling moments, that's for sure.
I love the horro movies too...I don't think I have actually read a horror book though . I think once I get a few of the others books on my list done I will read a horror book and see how that goes for me. I think I am going to read shutter island. I have been told it's a great book.
Actually, I did read Stephen King for a while. Then I read a short story compilation of Dean Koontz's which totally creeped me out, and I haven't read a horror movie since then.
I started to read a Stephen King but I decided not to finish, Which I don't do too often, but decided it was for the best.
I've never read much horror, but I really would like to. I just bought Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, but I don't think that's considered horror. ;) I'm definitely adding Let the Right One In to my TBR list since I loved the movie. Thanks for the recommendation!
I just picked up some horror today- This is my true love genre! I have been away for ahile and can't say I have had a book that really scared me...so this is my challenge for myself and this group. I will find one to report as a true scare! (at least for me)

- I read this last week, and while not truly scary through out, had me up late one night totally creeped out. Both the creature aspect and the human monster aspect were scary!
I am gunna have to see if my mom has that Stephen King Book (Under The Dome). He is my mom's fav author and she has almost all his books!!

i want to get that one sooooo bad! I ♥ Stephen King!!!

Me too - I don't think there is anything I haven't read. I don't love it all - but it's all so compulsively readable, and then the ones like The Stand, Bag of Bones, Lisey's Story, and Duma Key - all such solidly amazing, wonderful stories...you cannot miss any King. (oh, and his article on Pop Culture in Entertainment Weekly should be written in stone and be required reading for all Americans...I'm just saying.)
I've never read anything by King.
I want to read more by King - so far, I have only read Misery, The Shining, (both of which I love) and Pet Sematary.
i am reading Misery but i own Misery, IT, Thinner, Pet Sematary, The Dark Half and Needful Things.
There are a few books I want to read by Dea Koontz too. I haven't read any of his yet but I have heard nothing but good things about his books and he has been rated as one of the best horror autors along with Stephen King.
I have On Writing, but I haven't had a chance to read it yet. I am definitely excited about it though. I got it on a very good recommendation. Was I the only one that didn't think The Exorcist was that great? I just finished it last night.

I have not gotten to this book yet.
I have not gotten to this book yet.
Elyssa - if you've never read Stephen King, start with The Stand or The Eyes of the Dragon...then if you like, move on to the others. There are some solidly horror genre that I don't love, but the 70's and 80's were very different decades. :) And hey, for your hefty page-reading goal, The Stand is going to get you about 1/10 done by itself! it is 1000+ pages, and fabulous all the way through!
I have heard really good things about the Stand and think my mom has it. Might have to borrow it in the summer from her!

the movie of let the right one in sucked (no pun intended). it was slow and boring. i suppose i should read the book.
I guess the stand would knock out some pages... I heard over the dome was pretty intense as well.
I picked up The Stand yesterday. I'll you know what I think of my first King novel once I get a few other half finished books out of the way.
Jo wrote: "I wouldn't say that Under the Dome was horror but yeah it was pretty intense. I like that it was such a huge book and it never really dragged a lot. I was expecting it to be tough to get through"I don't think most of what King has written in the past 10 years is really "horror". I think he's prolific enough he's managed to make his own genre of suspense/thrill/good vs. evil thing. He's a great writer.
